Unfortunately I don't enough about her game but I'm asking those of you that follow her closely, how good is Angie? Can she be in the Top 20? I look forward to reading your thoughts, stats, etc.

She is one of the promising Asian tennis player, along with Cho Yoon Jeong, I think. I saw her play several times, and she doesn't really have a big weapon at the moments, but I think she'll improve a lot. Many people say that her game is quite similar to Lindsay's, just less powerful.

She needs to be tough mentally, especially when she plays a lower rank player. She often made an upset by beating higher ranked player, then lost unexpectedly the next round to a lower ranked one :(

As for Top 20, it's not easy, but she certainly have a chance to crack into Top 20.

She won Wimbledon Junior single title in 2001 and French Open junior single in 2002. Also she won Australian Open junior double title in 2002.

As for senior, she has 2 single titles already (Bali in 2001, and Pattaya in 2002), and 1 double title (Bol), also 1 ITF $75,000 single title. Quite an achievement for an 18 years old I think :)

Anyone with more info?? :wavey:

kfh fantastic post! :D

I knew she won the Australian and French Open juniors but didn't know about Wimbledon. I'm impressed that she can play well on different surfaces! I wish her well and hopefully in time she can make her move into the top 20.

One more question, for anyone: Who are some of the best players that Angie has beaten?

Thanks again kfh! :wavey:

I think Angelique will have a fighting chance to make it into the top 20. She's already won 2 titles - and she's not even 20 yet :D

Sure, she's smaller compared to other top 20 girls. But she's atheletic and that could well compensate for her lack of power.

But I doubt she'll make it into the top 10.

:wavey: heyyyaa ppl! at last i'm back at the forum..
Oh well, from my opinion i think angie can STILL IMPROVE her game..She's able to trash the higher rank players but most of the times she lost to the lower rank players..She should be more consistent.
:worship: I think she would be able to crack the top 30 soon, matter of time if she trains hard and she performs well, she can be one of the top players!! way to go ANGIE!!! fight-fight-fight!!!

Top 30? I really like the sound of that! Go Angie! :)

Angie can really play very well like Davenport and make her opponent run all over the court IF she's on the full form.

She can also play like craps .. She could choke when she lead 5-0 and lsot 5-7

It's a matter of consistency.. I see a BIG potential in Angie.. She could easily crack into top 50 or even top 30 if she's consistent.. Does not lose to player-that-she-should-have-beaten.

Go Angie!!

I saw her play a couple of times. She can stay in a long rally with top players and win a point. She's a very steady and crafty baseliner and can play at the net ok. She still needs a lot of work on her fitness, so better spend hours and hours in the gym to build up power. She's fast enough to run down and reach most of the balls but lacks killer instinct in my opinion. She's not a chicken. Whe she lost 7 straight games after getting a 5-0 lead against Dokic, she hardly choked. It was Jelena who raised her level and Angie got a bit nervous but so would most of the top players, so I wouldn't call it a choking. She's actually mentally stroung for her age and experiences. She just doesn't let up or give up until the match point has been played. She's a fighter and that's a hopeful sign. Technically, she need to learn to hit harder off both wings. Her backhand is obviously the better shot and can hit some winners off it but still not powerful or strong or accurate enough to give an in-form to 10 or 15 player. Her forehand is definitely a weakness she needs tons of work for. She hits very flat that gives her shots some pace but makes them inconsistent and difficult to place well. I would like to see her hit with more top spin depending on the point. Top spin shots will give her more time to get back to the middle of the court when she's on the defensive and can turn the momentum around. Her problem on the ground I have noticed is when she's on the defensive and on the run, she just gets the ball back down the middle of the court giving her opponent the chance to put it away on the next shot. That's the difference between her and the top players. Her serve is also a bit sloppy.. She's pretty tall for an asian girl so why not making use of it?? She has the body to generate more power on her serve if she can use it in the right way. Considering she has won a number of big junior events and already a couple WTA titles, she has the mental strenghts to make a champion. I mean she's not a dominant player even in the Junior but still managed to win all the big titles she won. That shows she edged out her physically stronger opponents with her mental superiority. I might be wrong but I'm sure there are damn a lot of girls who are/were much more powerful and physically built then Angie in the Junior but she still managed to beat them.
I heard a lot of underestimating comments on her game but in a way she has the bigger potential to improve the most given she can be much stronger physically in which department most of the girls of her age are fully matured. Asian girls tend to mature more slowly than Caucasian girls and Angie is no exception hopufully. It's not just getting taller and gaining weight.
Anyways, she has tons of expectations on her shoulders from not only the Indonesians but all the Asians on the globe including myself. Let's hope she will change the history of Asian tennis and go the distance!!!

By the way, I think she has a decent chance to crack into top 30 by the end of the season. I don't know on which surface she's best at playing but given she has on the Wimby Junior, she can add some chunk of points with a good showing at Winbledon. Anyways, it doesn't matter much how far she will go this year as she has so many years ahead and all she needs right now is take one step at a time. there's no need to hurry. What matters at the end of the day is if she can fully live up to her potential. Doesn't matter when it happens as long as it does happen somewhere down the road. Anyways, my two cents is tellin she will be a solid top 15 player, but of course I hope she will go beyond my prediction!!
