Marion Bartoli and Monica Seles play the second match in the Grandstand, Friday, in Key Biscayne. Aside of having the potential to be an interesting game between a veteran and a newcomer, this match-up will present two players who strike the ball with two hands on the racquet from both wings, a technique that has become increasingly unusual in the Tour...

Bartoli will be coming from what seems to have been a stupendous victory against Ally Baker in the first round, and has yet to drop a game in the tournament... She is known not only for her two-handed fore and backhands but also for her agressive stance while returning the opponents' serve, way inside the baseline... This talented French player was briefly ranked the world's top junior player in 2001, but seems to have fallen behind rivals Svetlana Kuznetsova and Vera Zvoraneva in their first years as professional players.

Monica Seles has way more experience and a more fluid stroke than her younger opponent. Fitness and mobility may be Monica's Achilles' heel, but Monica will try to compensate Marion's speed by dictating points from the baseline rallies... Marion's serve is weak, her service motion is jerky and she arches her back in an apparently painful way, opening the chance for Monica to attack the second serve and run Marion ragged with well placed returns... Monica should win this one in what could be a good second round match...

hey Monique! :wavey: after what Marion just survived, it would be nice to see her back up that double bagel with a solid thrashing of Ms. Seles...;) ;)

how ironic, you want to see a survivor win tomorrow, but u want to see seles (the ultimate survivor in sports) "thrashed." i just guess i dont really get what some people say...
anyway, i hope monica wins soundly, for she will need her energy against alex and maybe lyndsay and serena. i dont really see an "up and comer" challenge monica unless she has a big serve to go with her game. from what i've heard, their girl could dictate quite a few points, though. anything can happen. GO MONICA!!!!
