Monica has yet another tough draw.. can she draw in all her confidence and experience and hit past the POWER babes??

In theory her 2nd round match should be straightfwd.. but after that each her matches will crescendo in difficultly:

3rd. Stevenson (most likely)... could be very close or comfortable for Monica, Monica will need to serve well and hit her off court.

4th Davenport (or Majoli).. another tough tough match... she'll need to move Lindsay around and serve and return well... :fiery:

qf.... S. Williams... this would be a great match up.. could be indicative of how much S Williams has improved since they play last.. they've had close matches in the past.. probably due to their similarities in their games......

sf................................................ . ??? will Monica get this far?

She'll get to 4th round and lose to Davenport, IMO.

She will get as far as her inspiration will carry her. Don't worry though. I'm on the job.

honestly I really do think monica has the game to get past lindsday. Yes monica has a disadvantage movement wise, but she needs to take into consideration that davenport sucks when it comes to moving as well. Monica does good against davenport if she can take the lead in a rally first. She really just needs to move lindsay around, take the ball on the rise, and like always, when she is playing well, paint the lines. There is no reason why we shouldn't see monica vs. serena or lindsay vs. serena. In my opinion the better player that shows up will win. Is there a better player in this matchup? I say no, its anyone to win. But Im going to pick lindsay in a 3 setter.

she'll lose to davenport anyway ;)

Unless Monica is still injured, Stevenson will be a walk in the park. Then it gets progressively tougher in a hurry.

I don't really see why the outcome of Seles-Davenport here will be different than Seles-Davenport at Toray Pan Pacific. These days, Lindsay hits with more depth from the baseline than Monica, moves better and serves better. Monica is no longer the best returner in the game, but she still has more than enough to neutralize Lindsay's serve.

But once they start rallying, fitness comes into play. Liondsay has a BIG edge there, unless Monica is a lot skinnier than those floppy clothes make her look.

I remember Bartoli playing Suigyami in last yrs FO... she had a stiff and akward serve.. and her attitude really pissed me off for some reason..

who will win?

I hope Monica in 2

It's not always as skinny a person is, Volcana, as Serena has quite a large, flabby butt and moves quite well. It comes down to her conditioning in her legs; her endurance is key.

If Monica is playing well and Lindsay is in her typical "ho-hum" mood, then I don't see why Monica can't win.

Then who knows? Serena could have an off day or still be feeling the effects of her knee injury...

If there's something I've learned in playing and watching tennis, it's that you can never not expect the unexpected...
