Cool Venus is playing- I just assumed because Vee is playing FedCup she would skip this tournament.

I see Monica hasn't committed but then again she is playing AI, FCC and Rome.

I'm surprised to see Kim or Bovina's name not on the list.

thanks for the list wojtek.

Last year Henrieta Nagyova was the top-seed at Warsaw. This time she's headed for qualifying. Due to the departure of Hamburg, which moved it back a week in the schedule, the J&S Cup has really grown in stature. Now $700.000 in prize money and Tier IIA status.

The entry list could be stronger, even though I find it highly appealing myself. They are only getting the mininum from each layer of the Gold Exempt list. And it seems there is actually someone missing. One of these five should be a guaranteed show: Lindsay Davenport, Monica Seles, Amelie Mauresmo, Justine Henin, Anna Kournikova.

A WC for Kournikova, and the two regular wildcards for Domachowska and Sakowicz?

Yes two WC for Domachowska and Sakowicz .

Third one to player not from Poland

Yes, and I think it has to go to one of the five players I mentioned. But it doesn't necessarily have to be Kournikova, of course.

Wojtek, do you know how the tournament managed to increase their sponsor contributions that much? They couldn't have known that Hamburg was dying before last fall.

Maybe it was Anna who drove up the interest with her surprising appearance last year...

I was very suprised when i see that this event was move to 700.000 $ because they didn't have 170.000$ two or three years ago . This event has the same director like Sopot event . Amelie was in commitment list in 2000 and 2001 in Sopot but she had injury so maybe she will get Gold/Silver Exempt .

Lena's not defending??? It doesn't say Jelena Bowina.

I hope she takes off that week, and doesn't waste her time in Bol... since she'll be playing Fed Cup in Croatia. Rest before the two Tier I's.

FINALLY, SOME VENUS!!:bounce::bounce::bounce:

No Kim?? This won't help her in her case for #2.

But it appears at least for the moment that Venus isn't going to Amelia Island..so they kind of cancel each other out.

Venus Forever
Mar 19th, 2003, 08:12 PM
Except Kim beat Venus when she was #1, so she had probably just a little bit more to defend.

Hawk
Mar 19th, 2003, 08:14 PM
Yeah that's true she probably does have more to defend.

King Lindsay
Mar 19th, 2003, 08:37 PM
that field blows my right nut .... they had better get a late commitment from somebody. i mean, 6 players in the top 20 for a tier IIa? poor poor field.

Mikey
Mar 19th, 2003, 09:19 PM
this is a very odd field - i dont know why, it just strikes me funny.

I'm glad Anna is playing here, this is a huge opportunity for her. Hopefully, she'll keep up the ranking to get a seed and she won't draw venus in her quarter (if she were in the other half, that'd be even better).

I wish Lindsay would play here - not too many hardcore clay players, this could be good preparation for Roland Garros.

ColinB
Mar 19th, 2003, 10:29 PM
It is a strange field...

Really surprised that Kim isn't defending points - she must be concentraining on Berlin and Rome - it would have been 4 straight playing weeks if she plays Fed Cup week before too.

Not surprised that Henin isn't playting this week this year as she is playing both US Clay events and Berlin / Rome.

Surprised that Mauresmo isn't enetered as she isn't playing Charleston or Amelia Island so is missing a golden opportunity to pick up some points here - I hope she hasn't committed to Bol instead as she has committed to there in the past.

Also surprised that Bovina isn't defending, no Myskina, Farina-Elia, Dechy, Martinez...

I hope the event is a big success though - but it really needs Venus to play and not do one of her disapearing acts and pull out just before it like Dubai, Bahia, Rome etc

Weak draw compared to Hamburg's last year.

At least Anca is in MD, something which would have never happened in Germany.

No Kim

Although I guess she has her reasons and doesn't want to be tired by the French. But I really thought she had a shot at this title.

Anyway this is a very very weak field don't understand why it is a tier IIA. 2nd seed is ranked 8, 3rd seed is ranked 9 and the 4th seed is ranked 14  Very weak, no one will be earning many bonus points here :p

I predict a Venus win and it all depends on the draw but I predict it to be against Daniliidou in the final. And I think Dokic will do well here, a semi or the final

Kim should play here.
She have to defend her points in Hamburg last year.

Venus won't defend points in Amelie Island, and Kim will be #2.

If she does't play this one,she will be #3 again.

:wavey: :wavey: :wavey:

I'd like to see Kim stay on the second spot.

She can do very well on clay. :bounce:

If she skips this one, she only plays two warmups(Berlin and Rome) for RG.

It may be a little risking.
