View Full Version : Do most of you really care about reputation points?

I am not sure what all these reputation points are about but I was wondering from the majority of you: do you really care?

I sure as hell don't. Last time I checked we were here to talk tennis and although we all have posters we love to hate, this is about discussing tennis right?

Last time I checked we were here to talk tennis,... this is about discussing tennis right?

Miami matches were not going on the last few days so no tennis.

Why are you trying to spoil our fun?

Also I have a special gift for you in return for the gift you gave me as soon as I can give it to you.

And look who's not "discussing tennis" now.

well I don't really care about reputation points, and I know it is for some light hearted fun. I have got some reputation points from some poster and I did not request it specifically, so it is nice to know. But then again, we are in the board for fun not a popularity contest. If someone ask me to give them reputation points, I will sure do it for them. I also give reputation points to people who I think is sensible, insightful or just generally friendly to everyone

irma
Mar 19th, 2003, 10:53 AM
that happened too in my loloball time

if you do this then I am not your friend anymore. I am gonna play with her today and you can't play with us

the good old days ;)

You cant take a circle from me. you dont have enough points. YOU are the one who gave me a negative for liking reputation.

Did you give everybody else a negative also?

I cleared my ignore list but it might be time to fire it back up.

And dont make me get ugly because I will....

Do you know, I'm not sure this reputation system is such a good idea. Encouraging people to label and categorise others, to praise or denounce their fellow citizens, to single people out from the majority and condemn them... it sounds worryingly like the tactics employed during the Stalinist purges in the Soviet Union of the late 1930s.

And besides, these lousy people will only give me 95 points, the thrifty wretches.

I was away for a few month then came back to find this game. I think the aim of this reputation point is to make us to be polite and less unnecessary words fight to each others. Then people start to ask each others points and give back in return.

I only give point to a poster judging by his/her reply. Personally, i think the point should be equally the same for each person for each click i.e. one click for one point. Imagine two posters with high reputation points start to lick each other arses!!

Please people, could you have the bitch-fight somewhere else? And preferably over something less trivial and inconsequential than this reputation system, which it seems to me is a cunning ploy by the administrators to divide and conquer the posters on this board by making them turn against each other.

It depends on how you look at it. I quite enjoy this feature giving approvals for posts I really like (even if I do not know much about a certain poster). I cannot recall giving somebody a bad reputation. If the post is that bad, you can report it and the moderators will take care of it.

And anton's obsession with getting green pills is really amusing. At least, for me. Makes me wonder, what comes next? ;)

And to answer the original question: I do not really care.

Imagine that one day the board is invaded by malicious ghosts. You see that Eggy has 8or 10 bad reputation circles  Will you be thinking he is a lousy poster? Will it change anything? Will it change your attitude towards him?

Hendouble
Mar 19th, 2003, 11:33 AM
Yes, I suppose so. I still haven't got my head around the entire concept, so I haven't used it at all really. I'm just getting worried that people will take all my comments about 'divide and conquer' tactics seriously and label me a trouble-stirring menace to this board. Goodness me, I don't want a reputation as one of the troublesome people... which is probably why I'm not a fan of the reputation points system. The way I see it, you like or dislike what someone has written, you tell it to their screen (so to speak).

JonBcn
Mar 19th, 2003, 11:35 AM
Reputation is ridiculous. Most of the people with billions of dots have them from reciprocating others - it has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of what they have to say.

I've given it to people if they been being mauled in a debate and stuck their ground or something, but I dont give a toss about whether I have any, as I know the worth of my post - I dont need someone who only ever posts a smilie face to tell me that.

In fact, I'm turning it off...

What do you think goes on in the real world.

Like that saying goes:

It's not what you know but WHO you know.

People help each other in the real world. You don't have to be a part of it. You can go your own way but it is easier if people help you.

Hendouble
Mar 19th, 2003, 11:53 AM
True, but they usually do it for more noble and illustrious reasons than those on here. The real-world equivalent of reputation points would be us sending each other free coupons so we could spend more down at the local store, not some grand humanitarian exchange of assistance.

JonBcn
Mar 19th, 2003, 11:54 AM
I hear what you're saying, but dont you think it completely negates the whole point of grading a post? If you get positive points for posting a smiley, or saying "Can I have some points please?", whats the point of having them?

I dont want to be the person who has asked for the most points. I want to be the one thats most interesting to read.

just bc somebody posts a smiley, that doesn't mean they have nothing good to say.

and most of the point i got came from friends and people who i know and they said i dont have to give them points.

i have not been able to give points lately for a few hours and im still getting them so...

and what is wrong with a smiley? ;) :D :wavey:

Agree with Jakeev and JonBcn. :)

And because of that, don't expect any reputation points. ;)

I like the reputation feature in that I can "reward" those posters who "make my board experience" if you like ;) (and those who come up with nice, helpful posts!) but there are things that I "don't like" about the feature...

I know it's a bit rediculous to ask for points without writing anything great. But thie feature definitely encourages some people to make efforts to write interesting posts. So it could work either way. Personally I'm more than happy to give out reputation points and I don't expect anything in return cuz I don't want my repuation to be determined based on how nice I am but on what I have written.
That said, I don't see any harm in the system.
