View Full Version : Skating had Tonya Harding so....

When is the WTA going to get its Tonya Harding back stabbing media event? I mean Tonya singlehandedly transformed her sport from a marginalized event watched half heartedly every four years to a die hard cult following media circus! She did it all with a crowbar, a big lug of a man, and an attitude.

So where is the tonya harding of tennis? I thought for awhile that jen was the tonya harding of the wta but she's all bark and not bite. I mean not once has she climbed over the net and taken a swipe at someone's knee or shins! And her brother hasn't been caught hiding in someone's locker trying mess with their raket tension. The only other person who seems tough is eleni so maybe she can hold it down Greek Style by poisioning someone's gator aide sleeping pills ala plato.

I think in spirit Jenn is the closest to Tanya in the WTA. She's had challenges that she overcame to climb to the top of her game, yet has always had the pressure and expectations give her problems, just like Tanya. I hope that no one will go out there and try to injure their opponent(s). Also, Jenn looks a little bit like Tanya. I can totally see them hanging out together. Tanya, Jenn & Iva...kicking back and having a drink and smokes at a club!

what an utterly, utterly tasteless and unnecessary thread.

cybelle, if this is an extension of your hate for capriati it is truly sad. if it is an attemp at humor it falls flat on its face.

you just gave me wonderful quotes. thanks.

There is no Tanya Harding and THANK GOD for that. Tennis had a high-publicized incident almost ten years ago, and let's hope that was the last time.

Uhhhhhhhhhh...poor choice of words which also could answer your question.

And you want this type of behavior to happen AGAIN?

I think this thread is supposed to be a joke. I thought it was pretty funny.

I know Cybelle didn't mean any harm by it...but we had our tabloid event the year before Nancy and Tonya, and it wasn't so much fun.

I think it's funny...

Anyway, Tonya lacked the finesse...so I guess in that way it relates to Jen. Both are technically sound.

To be an equivalent though, Jen would not have to be the one who takes a swipe at an opponent's knees. She would have to hire a "handyman" for the job. ;)

what's REALLY funny to me is seeing which fans of which players come in here and laugh.

i guess "treat others as how you'd like to be treated" just doesn't make sense to some people eh?

Calm down..that was a tongue-in-cheek comment by me. ;)
I was just going along with the topic of this thread. I actually LIKE Jen and was rooting for her in all her matches in IW. I was torn between her and Lindsay in the SF..and that says a lot. :)

I have to nominate my fav, Patty. Her last two boyfriends have both been sentenced to jail terms, which I'd say is a darn good start towards building Tonya Harding credentials. Plus, before her current thug of a boyfriend (if you've ever seen the guy you know what I'm talking about) got his ass nailed by the German feds, he provided the key evidence that got the first boyfriend locked up.

Patty breaks her rackets on court, hits balls at the crowd, and curses violently in German at umpires, opponents, and fans. That's why I'm a big fan of her, and I think she's a strong contender for the esteemed Tonya title. All we need is for Patty to set up her arch-rival Anna K with a harmless little "accident," like setting her hair on fire in the players lounge, and we'll be good to go.

you are taking this way too seriously. Everyone knows that jen acts up on court but she would never do anything like tonya harding did, it was joke and people with a sense of humor got it.

But those are totally different circumstances! what happened to monica was a tragedy and steffi had no hand in it whatsoever. Tonya on the hand had some lame lunk head hit kerrigan in the knee and she was perfectly fine except for the scare.

I could see Dokic's father hatching some scheme to get her forward in a tournament. Whether that would involve violence or not, I have no idea. Whether Jelena herself would know about it and approve or disapprove, I have no idea either.

Come on, Jenn is so not Tonya Harding. Say what you will about her manners or background, Jenn lived up to her potential and fulfilled her dreams in her sport. Tonya, after a poor and low-budget childhood, continued on into adulthood by hanging out and even marrying low-lifes. These low-lifes, perhaps with help from Tonya herself, ended her career before she could reach her potential.

Once again proving people on this board have no sense of humor. I thought it was funny and I love Jennifer, as you all know!

Let's see.. I think the question is who can heft a hubcap the way Tonya can?? And who will go into women's boxing when their career in tennis is over? ;) And who will look right at home coming out of a trailer, ciggy dangling, hair in curlers, with some mangey dogs milling around? No question... it's MARY PIERCE!! ;)

Although Damir's salmon-flinging incident puts him at a close second.. ;) and Dokic does look like she could go ghetto on your ass, if need be.. :p ....she certainly has learned how from poppa! ;)

jelena fans.. this is a joke, ! ;)

correction, i DO have a sense of humor. i just don't have any sense for tasteless humor, especially those that rate ZERO in constructiveness.

and why bring stephen capriati into this? what's next, your gonna make fun of jen's mom?

I just find this to be in extremely bad taste. :(

If such an event took place, God forbid, we'd have to go through all the what-if's and all the greatest-ever thread's would be revived!

sure why not its not as if richard williams, melanie molitor or damir dokic just to name a few haven't been made fun of. Get over it already and find your sense of humor.

I agree that it is distasteful to mention any tennis player's name. However, I wouldn't be suprised if a fanatic poster from a certain tenns message board does a tonya-harding-similar action to another tennis player that consistently beats their favorite ;)

see post #9 in this thread. latter part of the post.

incidentally, richard melanie and damir all have directly been involved in coaching their offspring's tennis career. denise hasn't. apples and oranges here. nice try, you were getting close.

oh yeah, if every time richard/melanie/damir was made fun of you felt personally offended thus you feel the need to make fun of denise i can TOTALLY understand, though i TOTALLY disagree with that kind of sentiment. it takes precisely 2 immature and unforgiving fools to keep up a fight like that, neither side ever giving in because of the i-am-doing-a-wrong-and-it-is-ok-because-you-did-it-too excuse. CLASSIC.

she may not have been "actively coaching" but she has sure made some statements to the media, hasn't she? So if she can't keep her mouth shut like other respectable tennis parents like anne davenport then its open season. is that hard to understand?

at any rate if you don't like the humor then don't read the thread its really that simple. not everyone finds the same things funny, clearly some people in here find what I wrote funny. If you do not then reply like you have done and then move on.

the only thing i have to say about the first paragraph is "treat others as you'd like to be treated", is THAT so hard to understand? just don't let me see you whine next time someone makes fun of your faves or their family. because, according to your skewed and immature logic, it's okay to do stupid things because others have done it too. shows us where your intelligence level is.

and as for the second part, believe me honey i've moved on since last month. don't flatter yourself and think you occupy any iota of space in my mind. i just simply reply to those who continuously quote my posts and makes statements. and finally, if i don't like the humor in your posts there are PLENTY of things i can do aside from not reading them. one is to point out how tasteless the humor is. so don't, ever, tell me what to do.

oh, by the way, have a nice day.
