I KNEW you could ....

r1 Bye
r2 Serna / Asagoe -

I'm not familiar enough with
Asagoe's game, but you'd
expect Magui to win through.

r3 Mikaelian / Razzano / Gagliardi

Mikaelian would at least let
us see how far she is from
being an elite player.

r4 Maleeva / Shaughnessy

Now at least it's get's
interesting. Maggie is
the only player on tour who's
played Venus at least three
times who has a winning record
against her. Won't help here.

It's supposed to get HARDER at this point.
So Venus' next two opponents are players
who CANNOT beat her.

Looks good to me. :hearts: Yet and still, I am a tad superstitious about picking Vee to easily go through a draw. I wouldn't mind seeing a Venus/Jen quarter though, with Venus reigning victorious ofcourse. Good luck Vee!!! Open up a designer bag of 'whup-azz' on the competition.

i think everyone has a really really tough draw, but very few have an easier road ahead of them. i'm really liking this tournament already just by looking at the draw:D

I don't think her draw is easier to the Quarters than Kim's? Only one that is playing worth anything is Hantuchova and she really isn't a threat either.

Don't Serena pull Davenport, clijsters, Alex and all the other top players...I mean Serena set herself up for the challenge when she said she wanted to go undefeated for the year.....well the tourney officials wanted to take her up on that challenge. Lets see if she fulfills this goal...that is a big goal and the year hasn't even gotten into full swing.......I hope she goes undefeated and wins even the year end championships.

Venus should've just gotten a bye to the final

She's a combined 13-4 against those players
with none of the 4 losses coming on hardcourts

Venus and Kim have easy draws...serena has a "tough" one...

i meant seeded players to my knowledge btw
Serena does have a tough draw (if you can call it tough)
Monica/Lindsay, then Kim
I still say All-Williams final though

You heard it here first, Maggie will NOT/CANNOT beat Venus on an outdoor hardcourt. All her wins over Vee have been on indoors.

YEAR Tournament Surface RD Player Score
10-30-1995 Oakland Indoor Carpet QF Magadalena Maleva 6-2 6-3
02-12-1998 Sydney Hardcourt QF Venus Williams 6-2 6-2

Venus trails 2-3, but expect Maleeva to get a spanking this time out :fiery:

maleeva won't get bye Meg...who I would be more worried about than Maleeva...

Nothing is a cakewalk for Vee...she is too laid back in the early rounds for my taste...she never blows anyone off the court, so you always have to be a lil nervous for her. She gets up for the big matches, though...

Even though I would love to see her and Jen, I would love it more to see Myskina take down Jen :D

Shit... Vee does have an easy road to the QF, and Jenny is the 2nd weakest player she would get in the QF. I like Maggie, but she's not playing well, and either way she has no chance of winning.

Kim has a breeze, too. Suarez, Anna Israel, Raymond... no fucking chance.

Dani and Dokic in the same quarter? The players in that section should be smiling. Great chance for Maria and Dechy.

Serena's draw is far from easy... yea, she should win because she's Goddess of all, but Lindsay in the QF isn't easy, and she has Kim in her half. Bovina, if playing well, can give her trouble too.

no no I want a Venus and Jen quarterfinal...it's been sooooo long plus think about the QP ;)

it's a pity Justine is on Venus's side, I wanted Kim also wish Monica was in Kim's quarter instead of Lindsay's.

I'm not underestimating anyone.. Good luck Venus.

guys i'm not THAT superstitious but lets not put the 'jinx' on Vee ;)

back in the day, i would say Serena has a tough draw too but now....but you're right- it is 'tougher' than Vee's & Kim's on paper...i can't wait for this to start..shit i will get no work done for the next 2 weeks again...

I'm as confident as anyone is Venus' ability but lets celebrate the wins; not just take them for granted.

No one is promised victory against anyone... ;)

I just hope venus is happy and makes it to the finals and even win if she is not playing anyone named Serena.

I can spell cake walk by the way....but that is not a cakewalk. I imagine that no player has a cakewalk here. Well unless walkover shows up and we never know when she shows up......so until she shows up I consider this to be challenging to any player named williams.

venus is like that ace pitcher who sometimes struggles in the early innings but only gets stronger as the game wears on.

jennifer versus venus should be fun though.

cakewalk for venus, and the same for serena, i don't know how you can say it isn't. Serena has cruzed to victories against all these players the last time they met, and the last time serena played everyone in their half she was "on" her game, except for clijsters. A Tough road is what serena wants. But i still think she will just plow through her opponents, but then get beat by Venus. Serena "on" her game is unbeatable w/ the exception of her playing venus "on" her game. That is what it is about Venus/Serena, when they are on, they don't let the other player play their game. Thus they already won before the match started. Quality players serena will have to face, but "tough road" don't think so. She should still cruz, and its right when you say "All Williams Final still in the making". The only sad part in here is, b/c of Jen's performance at the australian, she is now number 5 seed, and will be going out in the quarters if she faces Venus. All those points just gone, she surly will drop, and davenport should be a secured number 5 by then :) Justine has barely anything to defend. Kim has about 100pts to defend. Top 4 should be secured after this tournie. They should't change. Mauresmo has a chance and so does chanda.

Folks seldom get it. Who ever has a Williams in their part of the draw, got a bad draw period. Venus and Serena will mow the competition like grass.

Serena has never played Ms. Bovina.

Venus is seeded to the easiest semi, she's beaten Justine SEVEN straight times.

Justine has to play Venus
Kim has to play Serena
Serena has to play Kim

No question who has the easiest semi. For that player.

Now to the QFs

Venus gets Jenn - yada yada yada

Serena gets Lindsay - ditto

Kim gets Dani - Kim leads the h2h 2-0. And she's YOUNGER than Dani. In some ways, Kim Clijsters is going to be the determining Factor in whether Dani has a great career or a good one.

Justine gets Amelie - They've played ONCE. In 1999. Who knows how this will go? This is the one QF that looks like it could get interesting. Health favors Justine

And last but not least, the loser of the 'I have to play Monica Seles in the 4th round' sweepstakes is .... (drum roll please) ... Lindsay Davenport. A repeat of the Toray Pan Pacific final.

So I'd say the order of difficulty of late round matches is
[code]
Serena - Venus, Kim, Lindsay/Monica
This is the worst DRAW, but since
it's Serena's, it's also the easiest.
Objectively, you have to favor her
in every match.
Horrifying draw for anyone else.

Venus - Serena, Justine, Jenn
By far the easiest draw.
Justine and Jenn are a combined
1-11 vs Venus. And the 1 was
two years ago.
Serena would have a harder time
with Justine and Jenn than Venus
will.

Kim - Venus, Serena, Dani
The QF is easy.

Justine - Serena, Venus, Amelie
Nasty from the 'git go'.
