View Full Version : Nasdaq-100

I decided to trek out and take a look at the qualies at the Nasdaq-100 today. First of all, Key Biscayne has its own insane microclimate from hell. We had a lightning thunder storm that nearly scared the crap out of everyone there around 1pm. It dropped bucketloads of rain in about 5 mins flat and I am sure play has still not resumed.

Before I hit all the practice courts, which were a bigger draw for me than the actual qualies, I saw the handsome Goran Ivanisevic sitting in the outdoor players courtyard/lounge. Goran has longish hair again and looks like a bored model, with those huge, expressive puppy dog eyes. I scanned the lounge a few times and the only other player I recognized was Marc Rosset...and it took me several minutes to remember his name. Overall, the lounge was a letdown. I realize the tourney hasn't even officially started, so whatever.

I went over to check the score board and I noticed that Arazi was playing the next match up, so I kept him in mind before hitting the stadium to glimpse David Nalbandian and Squllieri (I think?!) practicing. Nalbandian looked wonderful...great movement, variety, shot selection. They started playing points, so I moved down to the front row and thought, "to hell with the qualies, I am just gonna watch the practice matches up close".

After 20 mins I went to check out the other courts and hopefully, catch a glimpse of someone even more fabulous! Low and behold, there was Thomas Enquist practicing with his shirt off. That is when I wished I had brought my digicam. Bummer. Let's just say Thomas looks mighty fine without a top. Hopefully someone will post some pics here later today cause there were a lot of people taking photo's during the time I watched Enquist.

I went back to the main stadium hoping to see Monica or Jennifer (yeah right) and Carlos Moya had taken over the court with someone I didn't recognize. I watched for nearly half an hour and was amazed at their pace and slice backhands. Yeah, I said sliced backhands. Moya's just skims the net and slides. he should use it more often. Otherwise he looks a bit stiff.

Finally I decided I better go slum it and hit the qualies, when, BOOM! The loudest thunder you have ever heard, followed by the bucketloads of rain. That was my que to leave.

Hopefully it will pick up a bit tomorrow...and I will bring my camera.

Thanks Mark, are you working the tournament this year? I hope Monica plays. Since she lives 2+hrs up I-95 I'm hoping she is just practicing at home until the last minute.

Hi guys,
Yeah I will be there all week. Tomorrow are more qualies and then I start volunteering on Weds through the womens finals. It is really exciting to see all these great players up close. I am such a celeb whore, it is not even funny! I am hoping for a Jen/monica final!
