It's hard enough just getting people to pronounce it right. Sometimes I wish I'd come up with something easier.

It's pr. zhwee-SONT (except the "t" is not really sounded...it goes into a nasal sound). Got it? :D

Giuliano
Mar 17th, 2003, 10:24 AM
And you chose it because of its meaning in french?

Cariaoke
Mar 17th, 2003, 01:01 PM
Well my first name is Carisa (Cahreesuh :D ) and my nickname is Cari. People say I'm mysterious so they're curious about me so I simply took the u out of curiosity and came up with cariosity. Viola! :D

Aerien
Mar 17th, 2003, 01:42 PM
Years ago (half a decade or more? ), my cousin brought a friend of hers named Erin to the house. I liked the sound of name so much so I started using it.

For some reason, my mind registered the spelling of her(Erin's) name as Aerien, TOTALLY off the pronounciation of Erin.

Well when I was informed of my mistake two years later, I thought that I came up with an original name. Then I started looking around the internet and found out that 'Aerien' is French I think for air. Not sure. I'd LIKE to believe my imagination came up with it.

People who know French, tell me if I came up with an original name or not.

(Actually, my old name would be Aerien Wendigo but people kept calling me just Aerien so I dropped the 'Wendigo' part. Those who'd like to know, feel free to ask where the Wendigo part came in.)

anyway, copyright,copyright,copyright!

Leena
Mar 17th, 2003, 01:43 PM
My mommy named me Alyanna. I moved to the US, and nobody could pronounce it right, so it's Leena. The end.

Dava
Mar 17th, 2003, 01:47 PM
I took the first two letters off my first two names and then added the russians rule bit cos they do!!!

Spirit
Mar 17th, 2003, 01:59 PM
Neat question.

I like "Spirit" because of its varied meanings. It's the root word of the word spiritual, which is important to me because I don't like chaotic craziness. (Some of you may ask, "What are you doing here, then?" ;) ) Yet "spirit" also means the vital, animating force inside me, and it can also mean fierce determination and dedication against all odds.

It's not the most poetic or beautiful word in the English language, but it's the neatest word I've ever found. For a two-syllable, six-letter word, it packs a lot of punch in a very subtle way.

I only joined WTAWorld last year, so I was very pleased to find the name "Spirit" available. Usually, someone else has taken it.

If anyone else is also a figure skating fan, I post as "Spirit889" on various figure skating EZBoard forums, such as Golden Skate.

Aérien can mean aerial or airy in french yes. At first, I thought your nick was Aerien because you knew what it meant in french.

It was easy for me. I consider myself a poet (don't laugh, I sometimes write poetry) and 29 was my age at that time. I should probably change it to 30, but since my 31st birthday is coming up soon, I'll just wait.

Jouissant, thanks for the pronunciation tip, but you never said how you got that name!

Lynx
Mar 18th, 2003, 06:13 AM
4 reasons:

"Lynx" is pronounced as "links" which is Dutch for "left" or "lefty" - and I'm lefthanded and proud of it!
.
lynx is a beautiful wild cat, and I'm a cat-lover if there ever was one. :hearts:
.
it's a short name, and I prefer short names (less chance at typing a mistake when logging in, for one) :o
.
I was given that name once... :)
.
Real name is Mark, btw.
