Boy that match was B-O-R-I-N-G. I almost fell asleep.

But, still congrats Kim for picking it up the 2nd, not quitting and running down balls like Lleyton!

Davenport was waaay too negative, and she was so passive...nothing like her semi vs. Capriati
if you play like that, of course your going to lose

I am very disappointed.
Lindsay has to change her attitude because all these negativeness is not helping her at all in the matches against the top players.
All the credit to Kim Clijsters who played a good match, but we have to say that Lindsay made it easier for the Belgian with the ton of unforced errors and double points.
If Lindsay wants to enter the elite again she will have to think hard on her attitude. She is way far from Serena and Venus' level at this point, close but not close enough to Kim and Jusine's level.
It is really disappointing when you have to see a good player like Lindsay going through this...

I totally agree.

CONGRATS KIM, YOU ARE A GREAT GIRL !!!

Kim played good, Lindsay made too many double faults or unforced errors, but this is what Lindsay said after the match: "There's no question, she is the reason why I didn't play great.* I mean, she hits the ball with different spins, some hard, some soft, very consistent, gets a lot of balls back."

treufreund
Mar 16th, 2003, 08:56 PM
Lindsay's match against JENN was much easier because Jenn does not open the court up with angles. She really does not hit many winners or take advantage of wrong footing Lindsay. Clijsters dictates with her placement of the ball whereas Jenn hits every thing back at lindsay. Also kim varies her serve more and gets more returns in play and varies them better. For Pam Shriver to say that Lindsay played better against Jenn is just ignoring the fact that Jenn often allowed Lindsay to dictate. KIM DOES NOT!

Kim plays very smart, she has a gameplan.

I wish Justine could do the same.

NOODLES YOUR POST Rocks! Puhleez. Kim also made double faults. Don't you people realize that Lindsay is going to make lots of mistakes and double faults against a returner like Kim. If you don't go for it Kim will hit a deep angled shot either for a winner off the return or even more likely to set up an easy winner off of the next shot. Kim has won four of the last five and could have easily won that match they played in the 2001 semis at Munich.

Justine will get better in the game plan department but against Kim she will have to play high percentage, yet aggressive play and also really be patient and then come to the net and use drop volleys a lot. You play Kim the same way you play Lleyton, that is to say, high percentage aggression, excellent defense, great all court play, great fitness. Quite simply you need to play awesome tennis and use variety.

When you look at the results of Kim for the last months then the only thing you must see that Kim is a great champion. She barely loses matches and hardly loses a set against lower ranked players, even players like Davenport or Henin. She certainly can beat a Williams, she showed that convincingly last year, and I am convinced that she will beat them again this year. She is definitly top 3.

Kim WON the match today.

It was a good match IMO, with a lot of the games going to deuce and break-points, and high quality play about 60-70% of the match.

Both players started nervously, losing their opening service games. But when they got into their stride, Kim had the edge with her solid play and excellent retrieving. Many times she frustrated Lindsay by returning what looked like clean Davenport winners deep enough into court to provoke an error.

Treufreund is right in that Lindsay's double faults were forced by her fear of Kim's returns, s9o she overpressed her 2nd serve.

Lindsay produced some excellent angles and lots of power, but Kim managed to soak it up, and come up with the key winners.

good for kim. if anybody thought she'd cooled off after scottsdale, well, i guess not, huh? it'll be really interesting what happens in miami.

as for lindsay, still a great tournament for her. didn't win the whole thing, but no shame in losing to kim these days. and she'll still rise to #6 next week. the comeback rolls on...

I don't think Lindsay played a horrible match. These DFs certainly did not help, but afterall, I enjoyed the match. And the way both girls played. Kim was just better and ran every ball down. Sometimes Lindsay had to hit 4 great shots to finally win a point. That must have been really frustrating.

So congrats to both ladies for a fine title match ;)
