ok guys help is needed if you want to see Justine getting the 'sportswoman of the year' award in Belgium. It's just a poll but I can't stand it to see Kim Gevaert before Justine :D (I like Kim a lot but she can't compare her resutls with Justine's this year)

So help me feel better ;)

A few comments and questions:

1. Do people in Belgium actually take this award seriously?
2. Feels sort of icky giving the thing to someone who (correct me if I'm wrong) allegedly said something like her goal in the final heat of whatever event she made the final in was "to not finish last" but...
3. She isn't really that much slower than the people who actually did win the medal in her event...and she was in the crap lane assignment.

The Kimmy-fans anti-Justinianism is not the case I think Greenout (don't be so paranoid :p).
Kim Gevaert is a very beautiful woman with a very outgoing cute personality. The media has been all over her for years now, with right 'cause her performances are top 10 level in her sport. But she's left pale in comparison with 2 women who reached the absolute top position in their sports.
Ann hardly gets attention in a minor publicised sport and Justine has been out of the picture for months this year. January is aaages ago.
Even though Justine triumphed at the Olympics, Kim's prestation (not a minor one) was as much and even more under media attention. Athletics always gets the highest Olympic coverage of course.
Also, people sense (by continuous media emphasizing) this is 1 of the few top moment for Kim's career in the last 4 years. In Justine's case there is a "slam-overfeed", she's expected by now to be fighting for titles and winning them every single time.

The margins make me raise my eybrows too, but I expected something along the line. Here's to all you foreigners hopefully straightening the record!

Dec 8th, 2004, 11:50 AM
yeah greenout don't bee too paranoid, altho you could maybe be right in a small amount
Kim Gevaert is great! And if some people that are now accused of doping are really guilty and presuming she herself doesn't take any drugs ... well, her 'list of hopnour' could have been a lot longer.

Cynicole, yes the prize is fairly high thought of. It's the only 'real' national (not Flemish, not walloon) prize, so...

Lily, I do sense what you are saying (about Kim G. finally having a chance) but I'm sorry, that's just not good enough. IF her fellow contestants would be weaker, ok then, but that is not the case.
I presume journalists will vote mainly for Justine. It's (with all respect for Kim and An) the only right choice. It's like Kim-Justine in the past few years. Justine had a fabulous year, but Kim C's year was just a bit more fabulous, so she won the award. A lot of J fans where complaining about that, ... but it's reality. Untill now, Justine is the biggest sportswoman belgium ever had. Simple as that.

I didn't vote, nor do I intend to.

But I'm more uncomfortable with how, in track, you could be so "unheralded" for being less than a second slower than the fastest person.

Poll results thus far:

Kim Gevaert 47.92 %
Justine Henin-Hardenne 37.42 %
Ann Wauters 14.66 %

it's a popularity poll thing?

I'm in such a good mood. Ohh. Guess who was on TV just a

Eastern Europe. She's so encouraging.

In the last 4 minutes of the interview they actually talked

No. Didn't give a reason why the UK, except it's easier to
travel to Asia, Europe and having good news coverage like
the BBC( She sucked up to the BBC!) and the people are
smarter in England than America. :p
