The updated entry list for next week's NASDAQ-100 Open was released Friday, and only a handful of top-50 players, including No. 13 Patty Schnyder of Switzerland, will be missing.

Most of the players who withdrew did so because of injury. Organizers are still waiting to hear from Andre Agassi, who has an injured shoulder and likely will declare on Sunday whether he will play.

The women who withdrew, in addition to Schnyder, are No. 33 Anne Kremer, No. 38 Amy Frazier, No. 49 Myriam Casanova, Henrieta Nagyova and Mary Pierce, who chose to concentrate on the upcoming clay season.

They were replaced by Barbara Rittner, Meilen Tu, Patricia Wartusch, Silvija Talaja, Flavia Pennetta and Martina Mulle.

For the men, the withdrawals include No. 19 Tommy Haas and No. 61 Greg Rusedski. Joining the field are Sargis Sargsian, Albert Montanes, Michel Kratochvil, Franco Squillari, Karol Kucera and Richard Krajicek.

Qualifying begins Monday.

Andy Roddick ripped one serve at 147 mph but couldn't overcome his erratic groundstrokes Friday and Rainer Schuettler beat him 6-3, 6-2 in the Pacific Life Open quarterfinals in Indian Wells, Calif.

Men's defending champion Lleyton Hewitt retained his world No. 1 ranking after beating American qualifier Robby Ginepri 6-4, 6-2.

Vince Spadea knocked out Brian Vahaly 6-3, 6-2.

Top-seeded Kim Clijsters ousted Conchita Mart?nez 6-3, 6-2 at Indian Wells to reach her eighth final in her past 11 tournaments.

Clijsters will face either second-seeded Jennifer Capriati or fourth-seeded Lindsay Davenport in the final. Capriati and Davenport played a late match.

blurb from Sunday's "Second Serves" tennis column in the S. Florida Sun-Sentinel: www.sun-sentinel.com

"In addition to Martina Hingis, who is mulling retirement, another top female player won't be at Nasdaq -- lefthander Patty Schnyder, whose fiancÚ is embroiled in a lawsuit with Schnyder's father in a Swiss court. ..."

Is that why Patty's not playing??

More drama for Patty, it never ends....when will her parents just leave her alone, it seems they are bitter over something and won't let it go. Oh well.
