I called and got "looked down upon" because I am just a fan....I had to basically beg to get the information. Sheez...the tournaments sometimes act like the stupidest information is so confidential.

Anyways - here are the qualifying Wild Cards:

Shenay Perry (YAY!)

Vera Douchevina

Cory Ann Avants

Gisele Dulko

Jelena Jankovic

one still TBA.....and pff....3 of 5 are foreigners in our 2nd biggest tournament. what a joke.

I knew Vera had one for winning Orange Bowl
:D :bounce:
now go Vera go !!!!!!!!

Gisela and Jelena are IMG
its an IMG event, so basically the USTA don't get much say who gets what.

I know TBE, but I'm still frustrated. I'd rather have Dewonder get a WC....not that I'm partial or anything ;)

Its not so bad

Vera - she earned it by winning Orange Bowl

Dulko - she was runner up for Target Cup and since they gave Maria a MD WC instead of the Qualie WC she earned by winning the Target Cup, I understand why Gisela, plus like Eggy said, she is IMG

Shenay - Well deserved, plus she trains at Key Biscayne

Avants - :D

Jankovic - this is the only one I'm mad about...but again IMG

The last one will probably go to Lucic or some other IMG player.

Shenay was the obvious pick for one..if she didn't get one, there would have been a problem.

Dulko-I can understand this one, but I don't understand the Indian Wells WC she recieved

Vera-Orange Bowl winner, so she automatically gets one

Jankovic-I agree with BK, big ass thumbs down to this one

Cory Ann-very surprised she got one, but I'm so excited for her!

Lucic will probably get the other one, but I'd like to see someone get it who hasn't had 9 million chances. I actually wouldn't mind if Kirilenko got one.

i agree with Shenay Perry, Vera Douchevina and Cory Ann Avants. but the others shouldn't get them. what about the american players like bielik?

Bielik is with a rival agency(sfx)...i doubt img will give her a wc over one of their own

I would really love players like Jankovic to earn their keep the hard way just like everyone else, rather than get these constant handouts...IMG or no IMG, it's just not fair.

can someone explain to me why some garbage juniors
like Peng Shuai and Ally Baker can get WC while
the talented Shenay Perry has to play qualies.
THE WORLD'S GONE MAD

Jelena Jankovic IS talent but inexperienced. She was the junior itf #1 and won aussie juniors. This year she had a mini-break through qualifying for the aussie open, beating DeLosRios and taking Coetzer to 3 sets in rd3. :) Even if Jelena isnt ready for this calibre of event its a great experience and she'd be crazy not to take it. Winning even one round would be a nice result.

Glitter-Lucic, I'm obviously being sarcastic, but she has had a lot of chances. In her last 12 WTA tour appearances, she needed a WC for eight of them. She hasn't exactly cashed in on those chances either. I very well could be wrong, but I think this is the reason she is reluctant to play challengers. I don't blame her either. Why play a 25K when you can play Indian Wells? However, I really think she needs to stop accepting WC's. Her best results in the last 4 years were at the '01 and '02 French Open, and that is where she went through QUALIFYING and built up her confidence. She needs matches, more specifically match wins, to get her confidence going. It's hard for anybody to feel good about their game when they keep losing first round. We all know the top 15 potential she has, and I think a few tournament wins at the challenger level could be the kick in the ass she needs to compete well at WTA level.

Mirjana plays best on clay but she never comes to Europe to play on the red stuff other than RG

She's got to get her priorities in place, We know she can do it, but she doesn't seem willing to work hard enough.

Gisela got the Indian Wells WC, cos thats an IMG event too.

That's exactly what a lot of her fans have been urging Mirjana to do. She needs to be playing Tier 4 and 5 clay court events such as Bol, Budapest and Warsaw etc to at least get her ranking back up. She doesn't seem willing to do it for some reason. I don't blame her for taking the guaranteed paycheques for main draw US harcourt events as it's good money and she is funding her family in the US more or less as well as herself.

[B]Mirjana doesn't NOT SUPPORT her family she plays for herself and for the passion she has in tennis
HER FAMILY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HER MONEY!

Could you explain then what these

"some reasons" are that prevent her from playing in Europe ??!

I know about Bol and the difficulties but she could very well play some minor challengers here or qualifying in Berlin or Rome. I often said that I don´t understand her playing with WC in main draws of tierI/IIs if not being ready for that and accused her of seeing herself as a "star" and not in a challenger league of "reputation" but having a ranked based on a single good event in Roland Garros and which is just no200 in the world, how can she exclude herself from challengers like all the other girls in that ranking area have to do !?!

AaronJoyB

Mirjana could play challenger without problem but one thingh is obviuos: she play for her passion and not for support with moneys her family!
she will play tier IV or V with no problem

Then why doesn't she, the US alone has given her 6 wildcards in the past 2 years. I'm sure there are other players more deserving. I used to like her but now I am getting annoyed and hope she loses. I don't want to hear that the US doesn't give foreigners wild cards anymore. Apparently we have been wasting them on Lucic for the past couple of years.

if should play them with no problem then why doesn't she.

You are onyl as good as your last event, and her last event wasnt teh French Open.

She needs a godo kick up teh backside and some1 to tell her like it is. If she want to get into the top 100 she's gonna ahve to start working for it - and that means entering events with players of your standard. And currently, that's 25k's - she's deluding herself if she thinks she can do well here.

Ther are 8 WC's like Josh mentioned earlier, 2 pre-qualy ones plus 6 others. Marie-Eve Pelletier won the pre-qualy event, so she and the finalist get WC's into the qualies.

CoryAnnAvants#1

Here's my problem with Mirjana getting so many WC's..when she does play challengers, she barely wins matches in those as well. She got to one or two quarterfinals at 25K's and those were her best challenger results. She even lost in the first round of a 10K to a player outside the top 450. Rather than realize this, tournament directors gave her WC's to two California tournaments, Scottsdale, and Indian Wells. They even stopped giving Alexandra Stevenson WC's after 18-24 months after shit play and she earned her way back up through qualifying. Mirjana can't do this? She has just as much, if not more talent than Alexandra. If she does not get a WC to Miami, her ass better be at the 25K in Redding.

Bradshaw...good post. I don't know what her strategy is, but maybe she thinks because she has been hitting the ball well in practice and that she lost all the weight, that she is back. Matches build confidence and that what she needs most.

I don't knock her for taking the WC's who wouldnt, but it does surprise me that she obviously refused to play any challengers. It makes no sense at all. I think she thought she was going to get her WC's have a couple of wins and break into the top 100 and then not have to play challengers...It's almost a blessing that she didnt win any matches, because now she knows that she will have to play challengers and low tier qualies to get her ranking up. Whoever is helping her do her schedule needs to giver her a reality check.
