After performing the Herculean feat of last week, Ai Sugiyama can be called Ai Williams, for a week at least. :)
Not since VENUS knocked down three top ten players ina 24 hour span have I seen whai Ai did in Scottsdale.

-----
1. Ai Sugiyama def. Alexandra Stevenson 6-7(2-7) 6-2 7-6(9-7)
2. Ai Sugiyama def. 2- Kim Clijsters 3-6 7-5 6-4

3. 2- Kim Clijsters / Ai Sugiyama def. Marion Bartoli / Stephanie Cohen Aloro 7-5 6-0

4. 2- Kim Clijsters / Ai Sugiyama def. Lindsay Davenport / Lisa Raymond 6-1 6-4
----

Ten sets of tournament tennis and four seperate matches in one day from a woman.
Most impressive.

Ironically, the first time that I saw Ai play she handily defeated Capriati at the Manhattan Beach event.

What a day for Ai "Williams" Sugiyama. :)

Two three set singles and two doubles matches. I'm still impressed that Ai won them all in one day. :worship: She should sell vitamins. ;)

Good to see your late conversion to the Ai Sugiyama cause, Mr Rexx.

She has an immense heart, and when on song, can take anyone to the limit...and in doubles, is as good as it gets. :)

Damn!
Ai is probably going to beat out VENUS for the February Player of the Month award.

Oh well, she did perform a Williams like deed. :)

Sugiyama rolls rather more 'trippingly off the tongue' than Williams, especially when prefaced by Ai. The woman needs to by a house in Scottsdale if she plays like that there.

Im sure Ai is enitrely happy being Sugiyama, Mr Rexx...

Hopefully she can go one from here...in singles she has been something of an underachiever, and has alwasy had great potential as a singles player...which hopefully she can now fulfill.

Of course her status as a superb doubles player has long been beyond question, partcularly after her association with that French girl whose name escapes me... :)

You know, ever since Ai met Julie in Paris, she has been just so great. Maybe Julie gave Ai some power...

I think Ai SUGIYAMA is still better than Ai Williams.
I just dont understand why some fans cant just cheer or congratulate others without reiterating the achievement of their faves.

No offense, but I feel you just want to emphasize Venus here just secondly cheer for Ai.

Well said, Chris. Not everyone who does well has to be an "honorary Williams"

I mean people get over yourselves really. Why are you'll trying to make a positive thread negative. Did he say anything negative about Ai? No so go sulk somewhere else. Calling her Ai Williams was a compliment so get over it. It was a playful attempt at congratulating her.

It would be different if the people complaining only posted positively then maybe we could take your posts with a grain of salt but since some of you'll are as negative as they come you really have zero room to talk.

Just congratulate Ai and move on. gee whiz

Congrats Ai, What a fete! :D

Rocketta - Thanks, but some people are so unhappy that they fail to see the positive in anything and look for negativity in everything.
