I know this has been discussed in ATPboard, how about the women side?

serena's is pretty smooth. i've always hated venus' motion. all arms and legs going in different directions. i like lindsay's, smooth like serena's .... uhhhhhh i can't think of anybody else right now.

I hav to admit ... Lindsays is very smooth back and forth, her arm fully extended ... a very nice service action :)

I think it has to be Alexandra. Her service action is great to watch. It seems so natural and easy, but it develops a lot of speed, it's very accurate, and hard to predict the direction.

Daniela too has a great serve action.

You need look no further than the one and only Miss Daniela Hantuchova. Perfection.

I never really thought about it, but Serena's seems to be efficient.
I also like Seles', Rubin's and Schnyder's.

Serena's serve is so smooth and precise. It is definitely modeled after Sampras' serve. It is also very well disguised in its delivery.

I love Tatiana Perebiynis'

It has got to be Lindsay Davenport's!!! Lindsay's serve is a touch of grace and finesse ;)

Hingis has the most classic motion, but I don't like it very much.

Daniela has a very clean and beautiful serve. So does Serena, and this one has the best serve the women's tour has ever seen.

The most beautiful for me, though, is Iroda's. I really like her, and she has amazing efficiency for someone of her size. The key for her serve is wrist action - WHACK! :D

Michael Stich... When I started playing 13 years ago, I copied his motion, and I still do today. If anyone wants to learn how to serve... copy him. Long, smooth, flowing, no unnecessary movements... the way you should do it. I serve nearly as good as him too. :)

I guess the best women's is Serena... since it's much like Pete's. A lot of women's serves aren't technically good.

Lindsay's motion has too much movement, and her toss goes way too far to the side. Jennifer... god knows how she manages to just get the ball in with her sloppy toss. Kim's motion is too quick, so she doesn't get full extension. Justine and Amelie do that crouching thing, which I don't understand. Bovina... don't even get me started on how painful it is to watch her serve.

The worst serve I've ever seen, without doubt is Aniko Kapros... the girl should be ashamed to go on the court with that serve. She looks like a 70-year old lady serving.

I used to love Novotna's

I absolutely LOVE Lindsay motion serve. I copied exactly the same as her's when I serve. I really like the way she puts the ball under her arm and the way she tosses the ball towards her and how she hits the ball in fron of her. Her legs do not cross and when she hits slice she tosses the ball perfectly. I think she's the best server when talking about technique.

For me, the most fluid and potent has to be martina navratilova's - one of the great shots ever in the ladies game and the shot i'd choose above all others for my own game - if only!!

Jennifer's!!.....Only Kidding :)

Serena has the most fluid action. She just throws the ball up and you never seem to know where she is going to hit it.

That has been her biggest weapon in her toughest matches IMHO.

Daniela Hantuchova

I remember Arantxa's serve. Dunno, it looks so short, but hey it gets to the other side.

Leena

Arantxa's serve was entirely arm. Good for accuracy, but far from getting full power.

I like Conchita's serve, especially the sneaky shoulder-height toss for sliced serves down the T in the Ad court. such extension, such power. what an effort. if only she had better groundstrokes.

i would have to say none because i find none of them have a unique serving motion. maybe i haven't seen all of 'em, but they all look like the same serve to me

I like Serena down the middle.. so efective against Venus ar AO.. the spin was perfect

I love Conchita's abbreviated motion on those slice serves... I wouldn't say her serve is powerful, though.

Naldo, it seems like you haven't seen much tennis. You can appreciate that Serena and Venus' serves are very similar and there are other people as Capriati or Dokic who do nothing special in their service motion. But you can see Davenport's who serve motion is unique, very different from others.

I don't see much similarity in Venus and Serena's serves, except for the fact that they both toss the ball up with left arm and strike it with the right. Venus has a very unique, unorthodox first serve.

Novotna's serve = the back breaker!!

I would cringe everytime i saw her serve! eek

I think Steffi's motion was great! She got up to the ball so well and extended beautifully through the ball. She always jumped into the court as well. The only problem.. the toss, could it be any higher?

Steffi serve is pretty decent, very fluid

Jana serve is very nice to watch and very effective especially on grass coz it flat out so much (she once hold the fastest woman serve in the world back in the good old early 90s)

But I agree Lindsay serve is very very nice, I am no expert, but I do think Lindsay serve is almost to perfection

Serena is good as well :)

Venus serve looks like she gonna break down every 3 serves though

Jordan.

Well Venus has such a terrible looking service motion, yet she hits them so hard....pretty bizar...and very impressive lol!! :)

Hantuchova, Tulyaganova, and Shaughnessy! :)

BTW, I remember Graf and Mac one year playing mixed at Wimbledon and they played a pair with this girl having the most hideous serve I have ever seen! I think everyone was laughing in that match. Poor girl, but who was she??

Tracy Austin says that Serena Williams has the service motion up and coming players should emulate. I'd say the same for Stevenson. Those two are the best examples.

But give me Venus Williams pure power on the serve! Plenty big servers around now, still Venus remains in a class of her own.

I remember watching Alexandra's serve at Wimby '99 and I was pretty mesmerized by it. I haven't seen her play much since.

Jelena Dokic had a nice serve that year, too, very fluid.

I like Jennifer's serve, probably because I just like to watch Jen play.

Other player service service motions that i like:

Clijsters, Henin, Seles, Hingis.

Worst: Tatiana Panova. Sorry, but she just looks awkward from the start of the point until the end of it.

Mar 4th, 2003, 07:10 PM
Chris Evert and Martina Hingis basically have the same motion, but the only difference is Evert does not hold her raquet and the ball with her left hand like Hingis did. Otherwise, they have the prettiest and classic serves :hearts:

Pierce,Kournikova and Hingis.

The worst Chanda...

I'm talking about the service motion not about a good o bad serve.
