Elena is pitifully inconsistent

She needs to get her act together

Shinobu beat Myskina in last years French Open. She has also beaten Schett in 2 sets this year.

The thing with Shinobu is...... she is more dangerous to players ranked much above her..... but to players ranked below her .....

I wouldn't be surprised if she losses to an easy opponent in her next match.... then beats another top player the week after!

Also..... remember she has beaten Coetzer before and taken Seles to 3 sets. :)
Well done Shinobu - now please follow it up with a win! :D

Shinobu is quite dangerous, but Elena's results have been terrible this year. It seems to be a trend among Russian players. They will have one or two good seasons, then the pressure gets to them and they are never able to follow up and find any consistency.

Elena is a joke. Thank god I have given up on her.

I'm trying to decide whether that was a pathetic attempt at a joke or venusfan just being naturally stupid

As stated several times on this board, in the single-name "hierarchy" of the WTA, the name "Elena" was effectively surrendered to Bovina last off season (even B4 she passed Dementieva in the rankings). The relative direction each was going was clearly visible.

Man, elena was once thought to be a major power, but she is dropping like a rock in her skill and in the rankings.

I saw Her play (Elena) a couple times, Her Game is Good but she is not very patient player and always make a lots of UE's

Geez! I can't believe the anti-Dementieva sentiment :( She's a really nice girl. At least give some encouragement for her...she didn't lose on purpose you know.

i don't know, you guys. i don't think dementieva's doing all that badly. last i checked, she's still young, beautiful and in the top twenty. i would sign up for that ride. ;)

maybe one day she'll develop a game plan other than "hit forehand as hard as i can".

YAY :D for Shinobu!!!!!!!!! :bounce:

why am I not surprised??

the bottom line is that dementieva needs more variety in her game. i also think the clay and dementieva's impatience gave asagoe this victory.

Like GoDominique, I already "gave up on" ED, about a year ago (amazingly, she's not even the first ED on the Tour any longer; that honor belongs to Eleni Daniilidou  now).

But that does NOT mean I don't like her or am at all "against" her! Please. I think she sounds like a terrific person and I still wish the best for her.

What it does mean is that I have significantly lowered my expections of her. I no longer look for the big win, the great run at a Slam, the first title, or the surge back into the top 10. I am sure many other fans feel the same way.

But even so, I DID expect her to win more than one round of this tournament where she is top seed. :(

Ditto janie.
