View Full Version : Is venus' company causing her to drop tournaments?

Venus has a new company to run. New businesses always take a lot of time and work and committment and venus seems to be a very hands on type of woman. Is this why she is dropping tournaments left and right?

If she loses the number two ranking you can bet on it that the powers that be will put her in her sisters half of the draw.

yeah, but also i think venus will try her hardest to keep the number 2 ranking, she can still add some tournies, and if she sees that it is in jeapordy, she will add a couple, but really i don't think she minds about meeting serena on any side of the draw, and w/ the gap the way it is, do you see how bad it would be if they were on the same side of the draw, it wouldn't mean kim has gotten better, it would be venus just droppe those tournies and kim got to number 2. and then we would have either venus or serena in the finals, and the match would not be spectauclar at all, seeing the sisters own the tour except for eachother, they would win easily if they came out on fire!

I also believe that if Venus's #2 ranking is somehow seriously threatened by Kim, she will add new tournaments (preferably TierI ... there are so many that Venus didn't play last year!)

Well I think somethings up with Vee. Who knows though? I think maybe she is into her business, and not even concerned with where she is ranked. However, I have never seen Vee play this less. I know she usually pulls out of one or two tournaments a year, but at this rate I don't know what to expect.

As long as Venus is happy and playing the slams, I'm happy for her (and me).

Last year she playe da lot. In 2001 she played AO, Nice (2001's Antwerp) then miami, Hamburg, GO, FO, WIMBy, her 3 summer tournies, then the USO.

She is probably gonna play Miami, then Warsaw, IO, FO, WImby, Her 3 summer tournies, US O, Moscow, and Swisscom, then the champs. She does better when she plays less. I am not worried. Kim can add point yes, but Venus usually keep her points the same, adding 4 tournies last hear she only added like 700 points, that wasn't huge. Venus knows Rena is gonna be more tired by the FOand definitly by US O, then she will capitalize.

If Venus still wins the tournaments she's in, even is they're less of them, she should still be #2. I don't think she'll fall in the rankings unless Kim or someone starts beating her.

She could have ten companies Cybelle and I'd be surprised if she actually had a serious hand in running any of them....

I'd bet the truth is she looked at her two best years (2000-2001)
and realized that she was "fresher" in the majors because she didn't play so much those years. What reason does she have to play a ton of regular events for anyway-the money? To beat up on girls she already beats up on? The ranking is no problem as long as she does well in majors.

If she gets a more reliable serve Venus is right up there with her sister again. Time off from the tour to work on that serve is the best thing she can do:)

Rollo on Oprah Venus' own mother expressed concern that she was focusing too much on her company rather than her career. Also though she has not won a major recently she has been in the final of the last four thats a pretty good result considering she has been losing to her sister and would have probably won all four if it was anyone else she was facing.

PLAY VENUS PLAY!

I stand corrected then Cybelle

How long has Venus had the company and what does it do or sell? Who knows it may even be a good distraction. If it gets to be too much she can always hand over day to day management to someone for her. It's what tennis stars usually do with their companies and charities-hence my earlier comment.

I still think playing less is better. If you look at most of the real heavy #1's they had their greatest years playing reduced schedules -often 14 events or less. An extra 3 weeks (the diff between 17 events and 14) can count for a lot.

Venus opened the design company late November, early December. It's an interior Design company. Venus is CEO.

Frankly, I don't care about her events. All that matters, to me is that she gets over her Serena issue [giving matches], and starts playing Serena the way she plays everyone else. If that happens, Venus could end the year with 1 loss ;)
