I say the Aussie, only because it's not televised on American network TV, as it does not coincide with an American holiday.

It needs to be pushed to the weekend of President's Day. Now we're talking!

Australian due to lack of coverage due to ESPN and their "need to show Agassi" attitude.

MOST BORING!

Not 'boringest' Just seeing that distresses me.

Anyway, they all have their own special charms, unless it's Dent v Ivanisevic at Wimbledon or Martinez v Coetzer anywhere.

Probably the Aussie or RG in terms of televised play, as I get to choose matches with the other 2, but in terms of the average match interesting me, I have to say the USO.

I don't thing ANY slam is "boring".

I think a slam can BECOME boring, with the losses of a lot of top players.

But for me, watching Slams is not boring. The top players are playing, on the biggest stages. How can it be boring?

None of them are boring. If you find the Grand slams boring, maybe you should get interested in another sport, because I don't think you like tennis.

I love all four Slams.

My only complaint besides meager TV coverage of the WTA, is the 32 seed system- too boring in the early rounds.

I think those are pretty lame reasons. No offence.

You don't like the surface, then you're in for a LONG season. Unless it's grass.

Any event [unless indoors] can have bad weather. That doesn't mean it's boring, it's just tough luck.

Every surface can perform long rallies. It depends on the level of play by the players.

I agree with King Lindsay. If you find Slams boring, then I think you are interested in the wrong sport.

Oz cos it's usually hot and the time difference...with that ESPN schedule. You think that since daytime is nighttime here then they could have shown more matches and yet we get the corny two hour coverage....

The french is kinda boring with that ball just just bouncing n taking long to land ....I like the long rallies....but dammn it seems like it's never gonna end...one match comes to mind......the Jen and serena match from 2001...oh my god, the rallies and the precision of the shots....it's too much for me to handle....

And those players just skidding on the court all the time...:fiery: :fiery:

I don't get it. Why are you playing tennis, training to be a top ranked player [and no, I don't by that you are a top ranked player ;) ], how could you find Slams boring?

Do you think if Seles was asked if a Slam was boring, she would say "yes"?

That's ESPN's fault, not Australian Open's! Don't you think we get the same? Every match of Hewitt and Philippoussis is on from all the GS's here! But that's the tv network, not the fault of the GS!

i agree with the espn's "need to show agassi" attitude. that's why espn shouldn't be doing grand slams. but that's kinda biased.

i thought selesadmirer was asking what grandslam is the most boring to watch.

i.e.

WIMBLEDON: too fast and not enough exciting rallies/points
USOPEN: it's near the end of summer and the 2nd week people are hustlin' 'n bustlin' back to business
FRENCH: too many long points/matches
AUSSIE: u can't see the ball

those are reasons why they can be boring to watch.

for me it doesn't really matter. i'm grateful that there is coverage of any tennis.

but my "boringest to bestest" would be

WIMBLEDON cos i'm out enjoying the weather playing tennis meself.

and the rest are tied.

OZ : this year was a blast! (the 1st week esp of course)
FRENCH: it's springtime in paris! ALLEZ!
US OPEN: there's a lot of coverage and the crowd is excellent and LOUD!!!!!

My fave is the AO for various reasons, but I like watching US Open matches the best and also French Open (in terms of quality)...Wimbledon bloody rains most of the time and when we do get to see some tennis, I dont particularly care for it cause Im not a fan of today's players trying to play on grass. Can sure make for some ugly tennis. As for the Aussie Open, the quality of matches can sometimes be sub-par after the break, but it's my favorite Slam of the year no doubt about it...

Also, for those complaining about Aussie Open coverage...how can you label it the most boring if you cant watch it?

Oh and as for the question at hand, I dont find any of the slams particularly boring. As King Lindsay said, why would I be following this sport if I found the marquee events boring?

I love the AO coz then i can watch it all day for two weeks. As for the other slams, we only get to see hewitt and sometimes i have to hope he loses early so i can watch some women's tennis. (shame on me as an aussie).

Wimbledon

I use to love this event; but the it's lost alot or glamour,
prestige, and allure. The matches are the most dull..
serve, serve, rain delay, Henman, Henman, Sampras,
Sampras, rain delay, 1 / 2 of a woman's match, rain delay.

The weather wrecks the momentum, and even the effort
to attempt to watch "live" tennis. The total show court
monopoly of Henman, and Sampras.

I find that the US Open has the best overall entertainment
value because of the exciting night matches; even the
men's matches are fun. There's a real thrill in the air to
the US Open matches in all the rounds.

Roland Garros is good value too; but the men's matches
are way to long blocking our women's matches.

The Aussie Open is great because it's played in the spirit
of what Wimbledon use to be about.

Feb 26th, 2003, 12:59 PM
I dont think any of them are boring but the 'worst' Grand Slam for me would have to be Wimbledon because half the time it rains and they show boring documentaries about last years tournament, and also its very serve dominated, more in the mens game than in the womens, but theres not as many rallies so the points arent as exciting.
My favourite Grand Slam is the Australian Open, followed closely by the French Open.

The Aussie Open for me. Simply because that and the French open are less well covered by Eurosport than the others are by BBC and Sky respectively. I've been to the French, and it's a wonderful tournament to watch in person.

Tell that to the players who can't be arsed to trek to Australia, or the players who can't run for more than 5 minutes and so miss RG regularly, or the clay players who get scared playing on grass year after year, etc etc etc. Just cos u don't like watching or playing on one surface, doesn't mean you don't like tennis.

And anyway, if you can't get coverage of one slam, or if you have to be up at 3am until 1pm to watch it, you're going to be less psychologically motivated about it, no matter how interested in tennis you are.

And anyway, it was about the 'most boring' and not which one is boring. three out of the 4 GS's could score 9.9 out of ten and one could score 9.8 - the 9.8 would be the most boring.

Australian Open for me.

To start, Bad Venue-- RG is clay major, Wimbledon is grass pride, US Open is the biggest hardcourt event, what do we have in OZ? Some ugh green :( hardcourt-rebound ace-matches.

Secondly, the weather is too extreme that the game quality was minimized in many matches. Hingis, to say, is the best example in 2002 Final, or else, Do you remember Venus Williams Sprinkling in the 2000 SF?

Plus, seeded players' withdrawalannoys me most. For whatever reason, they have never been a full main draw for a long time.

Then, stupid scheduling comes. How can you possibly think that Henin-Kournikova was playing at 0700 in court no2:eek: I couldn't believe it!

For all the reasons, the Oz is very lack of its unique style that the players, and the audience like me, will continue counting it as the least attractive Grand Slam.
