Oh c'mon Alex had losses to 2 players ranked below 100, in straight sets on indoor hardcourt
I saw her play in Antwerp and she just played horrible, unforced errors all the way

How could she possibly take out Serena, no offence anton

rb, i didnt say alex would beat serena. i guess i am hoping somebody will help venus get back to number one.

anyway alex plays HER DOULBES PARTNER!!! IRVIN!!

I saw both of them last year play so Alex may lose this match. Remember Irvin almost beat Hingis at the 2002 US OPEN!

Alex has a horrible draw :(

Can Alexandra Stevenson win a game against Serena?

Alex's serve alone should win her games. Serena has problems with big servers since she stands on the baseline or inside, she either hits a good return or gets jammed.

Can you give an example of how she has problems with Big Servers?

Serena will have no problem with Alexandra

I wouldn't under-estimate Marissa, I'm fully expecting her to beat Alex, be an interesting match then between Serena and Marissa.

I second the opinion of TennisIlove. :)

I doubt Alex will beat Irvin, let alone Serena.

Curiously, I mumbled these exact same words to myself when I read the thread title...

I think Alexandra should focus solely, completely, entirely, exclusively on winning against Marissa Irvin.

No way will Alex be able to beat Serena, if she can get pass Marissa. She doesn't have the mental toughness! Sorry!!!

I think an eight month pregnant Steffi Graf or Sandrine Testud would have a better chance.

Serena was not able to return Venus' serve in the 2nd set very well and lost it 6-3 in Melbourne.

Sandrine Testud's serve gave Serena problems as does Monica's Seles' serve, but Monica uses being left handed to get the ball to Serena's backhand.

Serena also had problems with Steffi Graf's serve.

Is this thread a joke?! I can't determine if people are serious or not.

Anyhow, I doubt Alex can beat Marissa, let alone Serena.

As for Serena's return of serve, she's got one of the best in the game. She likes the big servers. Sometimes, the puffy serves throw her off and she makes an error.

Anyhow, I predict another first round loss for Alex.

I agree on the FIRST serve of Venus, Serena trounces Venus second serve.

Sandrine Testud? The same Sandrine Testud that Serena beagelled in consective matches in 2001?

Steffi Graf? This isnt 1999:o Serena has gotten considerbly better since then thank you:rolleyes:

Serena still won a slam in 1999 so she wasn't exactly crap then!

Stevenson has problems beating players ranked in the low 90s....How can someone even THINK she could have a chance against Williams ???

A Marissa-Serena matchup would be very interesting. Irvin is fantastic on Hardcourts. The last time these two played Serena won the first set easily, but in the second Irvin made a very nice comback from 5-2 to 5-4 before Serena closed it out. It may be a little more competitive this time.

Especially since this is Serena's first match in awhile, Marissa might win a set  :D
