to many
I guess careerwise the most important where

hilton head 86 evert 6:4 7:5 (steffi apparently had much troubles to win the first title. it must have been a relieve)
french 87 nav 6:4 4:6 8:6 (1th grand slam is always a milestone)
and wimbledon 91 (steffi would probably have been the tracy or martina of the early ninties if she had lost that one) sabatini 6:4 3:6 10:8

Henin def. Capriati, Wimbledon SF 2001 -- I was going berserk!! :D:D:D:D:D

Henin def. Serena Williams, Berlin Final 2002 -- won in a 3rd set tiebreak!! Justine's first Tier 1 title. :hearts:

Henin-Hardenne def. Capriati, Dubai SF 2003 -- beating Jennifer on a hardcourt, I did not expect this win!

Justine beating Monica and Lindsay, well, those were absolutely FANTASTIC, MESMERIZING matches, but I can't enjoy those victories quite as much as the others, since the opponents are my #2 :) and #3 :) favorite players! So, that explains why I did not list those equally great victories. :)

There are many many more wins (against Graf, ASV, S & V Williams, Seles, Martinez, Clijsters, Dementieva and Sharapova etc) however the first 2 on my list, were for me, the most satisfying. I thought the Davenport match was extremely high quality.

2006 Moscow QF: (8) Vaidisova d. (1) Mauresmo 1-6 7-5 7-6(3) - down 1-6 2-5, saved 3 MP's.
2006 Roland Garros 4R: (16) Vaidisova d. (1) Mauresmo 6-7(5) 6-1 6-2 - the way she bounced back after the first set, and only dropping three games in the last two sets.
2006 Fed Cup: Vaidisova d. Golovin 6-1 3-6 11-9 - what a match mentally.
2006 Linz QF: (4) Vaidisova d. (6) Jankovic 5-7 7-6(5) 6-4 - the composure was great.
2007 Australian Open QF: (10) Vaidisova d. Safarova 6-1 6-4 - not for the actual play, but because she handled it like a veteran.

Venus def Lindsay 4-6, 7-6(4), 9-7 2005 Wimbledon Final (Showed to the doubters that Venus is never won to count out)

Venus def Hingis 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 2000 Wimbledon Quarter Finals (to me this match is more important than the U.S. Open win a few months later, because it proved to venus that she could beat anybody on a big stage, plus that scream after acing Hingis on match point is just beautiful. I wish i had a clip of that.

Venus def Sharapove 7-6(2), 6-1 2005 Wimbledon Semi Finals. Big babe tennis is defined by this match. Venus has never covered the court better, been more focused and intense, grunted louder or hit the ball harder than in this match. It was glorious to watch.

1.Mary Pierce d. Steffi Graf 6-2 6-2 - Semi-Finals Roland Garros 1994 (Steffi thrashed on clay! Arguably Mary's best-ever performance)

2. Mary Pierce d. Serena Williams 6-2 6-1 Quarter-Finals Indian Wells 2000 (One of Mary's ultra-impressive unbeatable days)

3. Mary Pierce d. Conchita Martinez 6-2 7-5 Final Roland Garros 2000 (Not necessarily one of her best performances but the career-defining occasion elevates it to that status)

Honourable mentions:

Mary Pierce d. Jennifer Capriati 6-4 6-2 - Second Round Filderstadt 2003 (Never had to play career-nemesis for several years when she would certainly have beaten her, and this was their first match after Mary's lone career 6-0 6-0 defeat!) ; Mary Pierce d. Justine Henin-Hardenne 6-3 6-4 - Round of 16 US Open 2005 ; Mary Pierce d. Kim Clijsters 6-1 4-6 7-6 - round robin Year-End Championships 2005 (Both previous losses to these opponents were Slam finals.)

Mmm, this is yummy:

Venus- Lindsay Davenport 2005 Wimbledon Final
Venus- Justine H. Hardenne 2002? Ameilia Island Final
Venus- Martina Hingis 2000 US Open Semi Final

These three matches are my all time favorites, because Venus staged such unbelievable comebacks. I was so tired from work that I actually gave up on Venus against Justine in the AI final, and turned the tv off and took a nap. I mean, Vee was playing unimaginably terrible that day. When I got back up, they were still playing and Venus was fighting her ass off to win. Justine was stunned out of the victory. It was amazing. I can still watch that match today, and be overwhelmed at Vee's comeback. I still remember saying, "just one of those days Vee. You'll never make it to the third set of this one". I still kick myself for saying that, and I remember how flabbergasted I was when I woke up, turned on my tv, and Vee was about to freaking win the match!!!

Oh no, how could I forget the 2001 Ericsson Open win against Jennifer Capriati??? Now, that was some amazing shit! Vee was all over the court, and Jen wasn't holding 'em up either. It was just a great display of power tennis at it's finest. A battle of wills and guts! I need to re-evaluate my Vee's top ten list.

2.)2004 USO QF v. Mauresmo 46 64 76(1)

3.)2005 Filderstadt QF v. Clijsters 63 36 62

Probably the highest level I've seen of Dementieva. And just because I can, I'll finish out a top five.

4.)2006 Tokyo F v. Hingis 62 60

5.)2006 Stuttgart 2r v. Srebotnik 46 75 75 (I've always really liked this one)

I haven't seen any of her pre-2004 matches, but oh well. I like her 57 61 62 loss to Clijsters more than my #5 pick. Great match there.

3.)2005 Filderstadt QF v. Clijsters 63 36 62

That match was out of this world. One of my fondest tennis memories. Clijsters playing at her 2005 best (i.e. giving away no more than 4 or 5 free points on each set, all the rest had to be wrested from her), Lena D. on her late 2005 peak.

People who only knew the lackadaisical, erratic Clijsters of the 2006 RG SF, or of the 2007 AO QF and SF, would have no idea how difficult it was to beat her back in 2005.

Too bad one of Lena's best ever performances had to come at a TII QF.

Graf bt Seles 6-1 6-2 Wim 92 Final. You can say what you want about the Grunting Issue. Seles couldn't handle the pressure, and Graf who desperately needed this title, could. Graf's cry when she served an ace at Mp said it all.
Graf bt Sanchez Vicario 6-0 6-2 Oz Open final 1994. Absolute perfection. Sanchez never got a look in the whole match. And with it, Graf completed a non-calendar Slam.
Graf bt Seles 7-6 0-6 6-3 Us Open F 1995. Seles had destroyed the rest of the field in her previous 11 matches. At one stage it looked like she might come out on top here. But Graf was strong and held her off. Noone could deny that Seles was back and playing great tennis or that Graf was as good as she had ever been.

in my opinion:

henin:
AO 2003 4th bat davenport - seminal match
san diego 2003 F bat clijsters - first win on hard court
US open 2003 SF bat capriati - great stuff

loss that shook it up: zurich 2002 SF lost to davenport - bitched off court, then learned how to be top bitch on court

mauresmo:
berlin 2001 SF bat hingis - start of of 5 consecutive winning streak
Wimby 2002 QF bat capriati - first win over her in a major
philly 2005 F bat dementieva - could have stayed at home and sulked

loss that shook it up: fed cup 2005 F took hits in s & d and then took a good look at herself

serena:
miami 2002 SF bat venus - second win over vee (not including indian wells)
FO 2002 SF bat capriati - played well all year but this was the real marker
AO 2007 F bat sharapova - sign of greatness - could have collapsed after 5th game when started feeling her arm/shoulder but didn't

loss that shook it up: Wimby 2001 QF lost to capriati - end of the hypochondriac phase
