Was at my local Best Buy last weekend, oggling the plasma TVs. They were looping through several High Definition demos including a fairly long commercial for The Tennis Channel. They had some nice footage of women pros playing at the Chase Tournament last summer. The picture quality was awesome. If there ever is a tennis channel I sure hope they broadcast ALL of their events in HD!

Heh... I also saw promos of it at Circuit City. The sad thing is, I have satellite, and they're not scheduled to carry the Tennis Channel... which most likely means they'll never get it. :(

Tennis Channel is expected to launch at some point in time, we really can't be any more specific then that.

my stupid Cox Comm said to me they would carry only if there is enough interest... to show that you're interested you have to call them and them: I'm interested in Tennis Channel, please put me on the interest list.

they don't say, however, how many viewers have to be interested

I really started doubting that this venture will work out..........

Late April, according to a graphic that accompanies an article in today's NY Times. The article is about proposed specialty sports channels.

No one has The Tennis Channel yet. No deals with satellite have been announced to date, though they are "reportedly" in the works. The backers are still talking as though the debut of the channel is a matter of "when" not "if", as evidenced by this excerpt from the aforementioned article:

The networks' philosophy is that more is not better, it is their essence. Sure, the tennis majors are on NBC, CBS, USA, TNT and ESPN, but what about the European parts of the Tennis Masters series?

"Say you liked Andy Roddick in a five-hour match, which happened to be at the Australian Open," said David Meister, chief executive of the Tennis Channel. "But that could have been five weeks before on one of our tournaments."

The possibilities offered by showing the early rounds of some events, or events not shown now, make these networks' executives salivate.

"If Serena Williams is in a tournament, and she keeps winning, you may see her five times on our network in a week," Meister said.

There's a subtle thing I find quite interesting in the media excerpt here: not so much what was said, but by whom. Steve Bellamy was the one always talking to the press as their head honcho B4 in the (ever-changing) stories I've followed for months. If his credibility is so shot that he needs his partner Meister to assume that role, it's sort of an admission that they don't believe his BS anymore.

To be honest, I can't see much interest for this channel. Tennis isn't exactly the most popular sport in America. If The Golf Channel isn't carried by most... I can't see how Tennis Channel stands a chance.

I get the Golf channel in Canada. However I would trade it any day for the Tennis channel!

I seriously doubt it will be available in Canada..but I asked my satallite company anyway and their rep responded that he didn't know but he would put a request for me.

we have the golf channel with just standard cable.

but we pay for digital cable with over 400 channels. so we better get the tennis channel.

Heh... well I know all you guys would rather have the Tennis Channel... I would too, because golf is sooo boring to watch, but Golf is much more popular in US.

I like both tennis and golf...but tennis waaaaayyyyy more than golf. Even if this channel comes into fruition I don't think my cable carries it. *sigh*
