Here are the stats since 2000! Much bigger difference!

......................... Venus/Serena ........ Martina/Lindsay

Titles.................... 33 .......................... 26
Grandslams............ 8 ........................... 1
Weeks at no.1........ 44 ......................... 90
Head-to-head......... 20 .........................6

As you can see the sisters have excelled in everything but the number 1 ranking (due to the fact they didn't play that much) and the head to head, martina has most of the wins! Lindsay has 1 win over venus in this span, and 1 win over serena. Hingis has 1 win over venus, but 3 wins over serena! But clearly when the sisters were coming into their own, when you take a look at the number now, Venus and Serena are better. And I think most of there title wins, they beat lindsay or hingis on the way to the title, or for the title?

maybe if u did like 1997-2000 for Martina/Lindsey compared to 2000/2003 for Serena/Venus, it would be a fair comparison

See, I don't think it would be fair.

Martina and Lindsay have only stayed the same or even got better since 97-00. The Williams sisters were new to the tour during 97-99 years, and didn't really hit their stride until 99-now.

I think his comparisons now are actually better. All four have played their best in these past three years.

i wasn't saying to compare it w/ Serena/Venus' records from 1997-2000, but from 2000-2003. Lindsey/Martina did not get better in 2000-2003, especially due to injury.

Martina didn't get injured until the very end of 2001, same for Davenport.

Compared to their 97-99 years, I definitely think Hingis and Davenport got better from 99-01, if they didn't, they were at the very same level. I don't think they got worse, I just the think the conpetition got better, and that may make it appear they got worse.

I say compare 99-01 stats between both groups. They were all healthy and great during that time period, except for an injury hiatus from Venus for half of 2000.

i gree wit venus forever, u still be havin matchups in dare frum 97-99 when both da sistaz were not in they own, martina and lindsay were playin da same type of tennis in 97-99 as in 00-03, so really the only reason why i did 00-03 is b/c dat is really win da sisters caminto day own. ya know what i means?

LMAO at all 4 playing their best the last three years. That really is a ludicrous statement. Martina played one good year out of the last three and that was 2000 - the Martina of 2001 was jaded and FAR FAR from her best, and she barely played in 2002. Lindsay played with injury for most of 2000 (chronic injury) and for a large portion of 2001 and was out (missing three majors) for half of 2002. Even now she is nowhere near the level of the Davenport who won majors in 1999/early 2000. Venus and Serena's 1997-2000 campaigns were also littered with these sort of serious injuries and long lay offs, but recently they have appeared less prone to injury *fingers crossed* and IMO this has contributed to their domination - very rarely do the play with enforced rustiness. By contrast Lindsay and Martina were barely injured from 1997-2000 and this enabled them to be at their best most of the time. It is a shame that we have rarely seen all four fully fit and in peak form at the same time.

I think the best way to compare the four are between the years 1999-2001 when all four were closest to their bests at the same time.

very strange and subjective approach ...

to be fair, why not do the record from 1997-2003. That way we get to see Hingis/Davenport in their prime 1997-2000; and the sisters in their prime 2000-2003.

Logical, isn't it? :o

actually for the past year lindsay and martina have had significant injury troubles which has stopped them from playing as much and winning aas much as well as improving. they have had to catch back up to the tour wheras the sisters haven't had to because they haven't been seriously injured for the past couple of years.

I just gotta say, i think the absolute best tennis from Lindsay was during fall of 1999 through 2000 until she hurt her back. I also think Hingis was playing as well as she ever did during that time period. ever sine then, things haven't been so good. :)

yup. Wimbledon 99--Miami 2000 was Lindsay at her best.

i think that ever since then, it has frustrated Lindsay greatly to not be able to get back that type of performance. I think that's the reason for all her negative body language on court.
