Lina's into the semis, after narrowly beating an injured Conchita Martinez in a tight match that could easily have gone the Spaniard's way depsite an injury that nearly caused her to forfeit the match at the beginning.

Fortunate Lina now plays Elena Likhovtseva.

'Fortunate' Lina also took out Monica Seles. Not too bad.

Lina was no more fortunate than Conchita was at AO2002..

yes yes for sure. Congrats Conchita great week for you beat Kostanic and Ahl, great players

"Fortunate" Lina has beaten great players lately.
Petrova, Bovina, Seles, Zuluaga. All of them played well recently.

Bye Bye Conchita :wavey:

Is she badly injured? she must be. She never retires unless she is.

Oh, this is such bad news :(

i think it's a bad injury. just when she was hitting some form.

hopefully she'll be good for the clay though.

meanwhile, let's see if lina can take advantage of her lucky break (beating an injured Seles and an injured Martinez). this is the sort of luck she needed this week.

That was in response to the one who opened this thread and gave Lina NO CREDIT for her good form of late.

I hope Conchita recover soon. Spain needs her badly. No more Arantxa

I see. If someone discredits your fave, you feel happy for the player who's injured. Very nice from you.

I remember feeling very sorry about Lina when she withdrew from her match in Australia due to the same injury, being sidelined for several months.

But not everyone shares the same way of thinking, I'm afraid.

I never said i was happy for her injury if you Soch are talking to me.

I'm sorry for Conchi... I hope she recovers soon...

Lina finally got lots of luck recently... it looks especially true for those fans who follow tennis only when their fave is playing (i.e. baleineau)

baleineau doesn't know anything about Conchi's injury so stop spreading the rumours about how setious it is... pathetic.

Petosp you are so a frustrated fan. Just cause Gabriella Sabatini was a worst player than Conchita and a frustrated one who could not keep her top 20 position at a young age, you dont need to cheer against Conchita in every thread it's made about her. Geez....

Well Done Lina, I am sure that you played very well, good luck for the rest of the tournament.
Get well soon Conchita.

What's wrong with doing that? :/

LOL Gabriela being worse than Conchita LOL

That`s another topic and i wont start it again.
But a player like Conchita, who almost HALF of her titles are TIER III events and plus and what hurt you more than anything is the fact that Conchita WAS NEVER able to beat the top players with as much consistency as Gabriela.

I imagine how much you would OPEN your Mouth if Conchita would have beaten a Williams Sister. Thanks god that never happened.

How good Gaby was???
well Sabatini was in at least 18 Grand Slams semifinals, to Conchita`s only 12. Not to mention 2 Masters wins by Gaby, Conchita`s performance in a span of almost 16 years of Career, to Gaby`s 12 years.

PD. Get informed before you talk, Gaby in 96 had a very bad injury that kept her out of the tour for 3 and half months, which made her to miss Roland Garros and Wimbledon. It was not like she lost it by playing which is a very diferent case.

baleineau
Feb 14th, 2003, 07:05 PM
Gaby was only about 24/25 years of age when she lost it big time (94-96) and then despite a small injury she quit. why?

Conchita, though, is still top-40 at the grand old age of 31, and was number three just three years ago. that says a lot for conchita's class. and yeah, conchi has a similar number of tier 1 and tier II titles as Gaby. throw in a dozen others and you have a more accomplished player.

anyway, hope conchita gets better quickly. terrible that she slipped and hurt her ankle today. no player deserves to get injured.

94 Gaby won masters, 2 Grand Slams semis
95 Reached Semis of Usopen, won 1 event and played 3 finals

So i don`t think 94 or 95 were bad years for her either.
She got injured in Tokio pp 96, then played Miami and Hilton Head and stopped for 3 and half months. I don`t think a small injury makes you stop 3 months. She left tennis at 26, not 24.

Yes they have similar numbers, but Gaby has won more Tier I and II than Conchita. And 2 Masters Championships to her credit. Conchita not even a semifinal.

So here i will stop. :)

Yes, better stop, like your dear Gaby did.

Itīs amazing the number of Fed cup finals played by Sabatini, itīs quite close with Conchi, isnīt she???

I'm sure if Gabi had played with Arantxa all those years she'd have tons of Fed Cup finals too.

Why cant you guys ever just enjoy the sport without resorting to "my favourite player's better than your favourite player?" You miss out on a lot.

No need to bash baleineau, even though the tone of this thread was set by his pathetic first post. Lina's in the semis. :)

He starts. He attacks Conchita everywhere and it's starting to be annoying for me. I have really nothing against Gabriella, but if he attacks Conchita i will back with Gaby.

Dont attack other players, maybe then your fave wont be attacked.

He didn't at all in this thread. He said sarcastically that he wasn't impressed that Conchi beat a player barely in the top 100... and a British no-name. He's right.

Oh, and he also said Spain needs her for Fed Cup... oh, that asshole.

no offense but I am suprised conchita made it this far, the past 2 years have been tragic, she lost in the second round of the australian to stosur, sure she has a quick high mark here and there like the win late last year against an off capriati, and some other credible wins during the last couple of weeks of last year, but for the most part conchita is done.
If she played against a venus or kim like she played today vs lina she would probably get 1 or 2 games at the most.

No offense but its not a very big suprise that conchita lost, it can hardly be called an upset, conchita is slow and out-of shape, and she hits the ball with a lot less pace then before as well as a lot less accuracy.

As for Conchita being better then gabby, no offense to conchita she is one of the best players ever but gabby was leagues infront of her
Gabby was up there with steffi, monica, and arantxa
she led conchita in head to head and arantxa
and most everybody else, she beat steffi more times then anyone. In the late 80's and early 90's she was right under steffi's nose, had graf not been there gabby would probably have 10 grandslams and not one, sabatini at her best was just levels above martinez(who was a very consistent and a very smart player)

Anyway congrads lina you deserved the win:)
too bad conchi:(
best of luck to u

too bad some of conchi's fans are so disgraceful, if she heard what some of you were writing, she would probably have been ashamed of you.

By the way, If I was a moderator of this board and i heard you wishing on a player to fall and injure her leg, among other such idiotic actions, i would have kicked your sorry a$$ in the garbage can, where it belongs.
What is your problem? are u going through puberty or medopause?
whats your problem.
If you want someone to injure their leg so badly why don't you go and lay in the middle of the street and wait for a quick bump.
I'm kidding by the way don't take it seriously, don't lay on the street, because that suits your personality.

good night:kiss:
