This week's question:

As we are in the week of the Antwerp tournament anyway, and valentine coming up, I thought this might be a good one: :)

----------------
Do you believe that the following happened last year, during the first edition?

During a meeting with fans, a guy came to Kim and asked her to marry him.

True? Did a fan really dare to do this in public last year?
or
False? Do you think this is an unbelievable story?

VOTE!
---------------

Voters/Posters!

don't forget: be a good sport, this is for fun, so no spoilers allowed, you may comment of course but don't reveil the right answer in advance!
Thanks!

(First I thought: no, Kim didn't play last year...)

But here I go again, reasoning it out: you cannot "know this one" if you don't know for sure that it happened, can you? And then there is Mrs_Guga:
Kasey, you were there at the "incident"! ...
There wouldn't be an incident if nobody had proposed, would there?

So my answer is "Yes". :)

Nice try but errr ... who says Nwando (mrs guga) isn't doing this on purpose, as mod here?
we like to keep everyone guessing and giving sometimes true, sometimes false clues

Not to throw you off track or anything, but I might have followed the same logic you did and thought the answer was 'no' because Kim didn't play last year... :p

So far 32 out of 52 voters believe this is a true story I brought here.

I'll close the vote tomorrow, a new one will be up then.

KaseyL
Feb 20th, 2003, 08:10 PM
The correct answer was YES!

So congrats for the 33 voters who got it right.

Kim was in Antwerp last year, she didn't play as you all know but she did her duty in promoting the tournament and being there for her fans. During these meetings with fans things become sometimes extraordinary... One of these 'special' things that happened last year was...indeed, a marriage proposal!

Kim really did get a marriage proposal in Antwerp last year.
It wasn't Lleyton though. :p
The guy who had asked her to marry him told Flemish journalists that he had done this for two reasons: he liked Kim and it was as a result of a bet with his mates. :D
(I'd say nice try ;))
I don't think some guys tried something similar this year, with Lleyton around... :D

I was there when this happened (sorry for trying to throw you off track Lynx (Mark?) ) and it was kind of funny. If I remember correctly her answer was "I think somebody else should ask me that" :hearts:.
I also remember that there was this one women who asked Kim about her house and then she gave Kim her husband's business card, because he was a cabinetmaker (can't remember exactly, could also have been a plumber, at any rate someone you need when you're having a house built) and she was trying to talk Kim into employing him in front of a couple of hundred people. :)

You didn't throw me off track, Fieke, I'd already voted yes :p . (Didn't believe your second post although you made me waver for a sec - nice try!).

Why is everyone here pressurizing these kids to get married? Jeez - she's 19, he's 21 (22 next monday - hehe, who knew that?), they've got all the time of the world. 19 and 22 is NOT old. :( :o

I think it was quite rude of that woman to try bullying Kim into employing her husband before all those people. Some folks are really without shame.

I can't speak for anyone else in here, but for me it's just making a bit of fun out of it, as there are always rumours going on LOL.
No really, talking seriously for a minute: I just sincerely hope they take enough time and don't rush into anything they don't feel ready for.

There goes a question for this series :p

No, really: that was so over the edge. Can imagine what kind of letters they must get at certain days, gee...

Fieke, thanks for the report. Btw it was a carpenter's business card.

I agree Ingrid.....I do hope they get married but I'm not expecting they will (or would want them to), like, tomorrow or anything. I also agree that they have their whole lives ahead of them. They both started playing pro tennis at such tender ages that it is easy to forget how young they actually are. The fact that the media have been calling them "fiancees" for sooooo long doesn't help, and I guess we can't help getting carried away on that thought either :) But, all in good humour!

Re the marriage thing. I guess most of us are just joking about it. I mean, we all like them as a couple and we wish them all the happiness they can get, but if they would announce that they were going to get married, I think almost everybody here would be shocked, because 19 is so young to get married. And not to mention the fact that Lley will be completely off the market then ;) :p

possie
Feb 21st, 2003, 11:38 PM
There is no doubting how young they are, but you've got to admit that they are mature for their age....PARTICULARLY Kim.....I mean, if you had no idea how old she was, you would not guess that she was only 19 years young.....well, I wouldn't anyway.

possie
Feb 21st, 2003, 11:46 PM
However, having said that, it would be hard to say how much has arisen from their proffessions, I mean they experience things that normal people of their ages don't. Whether that forces you to grow up faster (probably) or not I don't know. Anyway, I'm just rambling thoughts now. Feel free to ignore them. :) Think of Martina Hingis, she's a retired 22 year old. She has had a whole career, while most 22 year olds havn't even started!

Re possie and your rambling thoughts:
(how DO you do that quote/reply in bold thing?)
I know there's that old saying about that no matter who you are, what you do for a living, that you are still the same as everyone else underneath. Well, (here's my rambling thoughts, now) I think that that is true to some extent. To people they know, those who are near and dear to them, they are not number one and potential number one players in the world. First and foremost that is. They are just friends, not the same people they were before they were at the top of the tennis world, because that's impossible. But I'm sure there are people out there who approach them with day to day things as friends, not fans.

Like I said, just rambling like you, no reply expected.

Hope i don't sound like I'm talking about something I have no idea about.

Emza, this is all very true.....and perhaps the conclusion we can come to is that all life experiences change people....whether you be a tennis star or not, but there will always be a part of you that remains unchanged. Perhaps we sometimes forget that we are all mere mortals...at the end of the day we are all human....we need someone to stand by us through thick and thin, someone to hold onto when life gets tough and someone to share our deepest, darkest secrests with......in short, someone to be our friend. And I do agree with you that people in their position forget, or never even see each other in light of what a fan might....because they just see each other as someone to fulfill all of the above reasons.
