I read this article in Saigon Eco (Jan-Feb edition - page 33 - 3rd column). It is in French :o .Le site web sur les XXIIe SEA Games http://www.seagames22.com.vn a t inaugur par le Comit de l'ducation physique et des sports, en coopration avec la compagnie FPT.

In short, the website for the SEA Games will be http://www.seagames22.com.vn

I am not certain if the website has been publicly opened yet. I don't have a very good internet connection at the moment  .

As a sports maniac I know 22nd SEA Games will be held in Vietnam in Dec. 2003...Too bad, it is in French...I don't understand...What does it tell us, SteveG? IMO, as for Indonesia - we do not need to send Angie & Wynne for SEA Games...nothing to proof in such level, I think...I prefer to send younger players like Sandy Gumulya, Septi Mende, Diana Julianto & Eveline Rusdianto...Even, I do not want Liza and Wukir to be on the team at all...Purely, young girls...In the news, finally and I hope it is true...many sports officials just realize that it is not important anymore to win the medals but it is better to give exposure to the young athletes as ways to gain experience...We'll see!!!:wavey:

Thanks for the link, Stephane. :wavey:

Aaron, hopefully Chin-Bee will be able to get a silver medal at least if Tammy, Angie, Wynne, etc don't play. :)

It'll mean she'll have to skip the $25K in Thailand that week though. :(

And btw for the time being, there's nothing interesting in these first pages. Only some words from an official saying how important SEA Games are for Vietnam and how hard it has been to prepare and blablabla...

Also some pages introducing the main cities in Vietnam. I wonder why they need to introduce Vietnamese cities to Vietnamese  .

The website is now available in English with some news, here :

Seagames 22 - English (http://english.seagames22.com.vn/)

There are starting to be ads in the street for the Seagames, with various mottos asking to keep the city clean  .

East Timor is not listed with the other S.E.A. countries but is apart. I assume it is a "guest" country, just like Vietnam was the first time :) .

It is certainly a first move to joining S.E.A. countries, same as for Vietnam previously ;) .

Here is where the athletes should stay in Hochiminh City :) :

Saigon Prince Hotel (http://www.vietnamtourism.com/e_pages/tourist/hotel/12_saigonprince/index.htm)

And here's a general view of the hotel :

http://www.asia-discovery.com/Vietnam/saigon-prince/main.jpg

I don't think it is official yet (therefore not confirmed 100% yet).

As read in the papers regarding athletes accomodation :
[...] Most luxury hotels who were initially eager to accomodate SEA Games guests now seem reluctant to do so as the event's organisers were expecting rooms at much cheaper rates than is realistic. Each athlete can only spend USD 30 a day on accomodation while room rates at five-star hotels are more than double that.
Saying around triple that would be more realistic  . There is however usually a double occupancy for sport events, so the rate is not that far away.

And here about the clean cities ;) :
[...] Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City authorities have started campaigns to make the cities hospitable, peaceful and beautiful. Local people are encouraged to show their hospitality and clean the streets every week-ends. Students volunteers have been recruited for special training to become guides for visitors during the competition.
