as i thought it would be Jan 19-Feb 1
earliest it starts is Jan 13 and latest 19th.

we have that cycle again where things are gonna be a bit hazy at start of year.
means season starts Jan 5th
also means Sydney points from this year will be taken off for Aus Seedings 2004

AUS/Tokyo points come off together at end of Aus Open.

OMG, this time I won't be there. Unbearable thought I have to say. I'll be back in some years though.

if they did start on Jan 12th
1st tourn starts on 28th Dec
qualies on Dec 26

and that would be a pain for nearly everyone.
and if they kept doing that the seasons would end up starting in November etc.

The Date for AUS 2004 is on the AUS OPEN website
I also checked through the dates since Aus Open moved back to Jan when earliest and latest opens were played and 13th and 19th were those dates.

rankings will only be messed up for slam events/miami/IW not for all the year

other slam dates not out yet but i expect them to be altered as well by a week.
Roland Garros should be May 31 (week later)
Wimbledon should be June 28 (a week later than this yr)
US Open 2004 will be Aug 30 (week later)

umm hello... when are people gonna realise that the AO can't be in March! No one would go, there would be no ball kids, and it would probably be cold!

School holidays in Australia are December and January... school goes back at the start of Feb... are they gonna get ball kids when they have to take two weeks off school? I don't think so. Besides, how is everyone else that goes to school or Uni supposed to go watch then? Leave it in Jan where it's more suitable! If the players complain about the season is too long, then drop some events at the end of the year... they don't lead up to much. There is no GS at the end of the year... OK there is the Championships, but they can be earlier also!

I totally agree...The only way that it could possibly work is to make it a night tournament (which would piss the players off even more)...and there are so many other events on in Melbourne in March. Very few people would go to the tennis...then there would be TV rights issues because no-one would be home to watch it...and early March in Melb. is often just as hot as January

3 month holiday in this country?! I am hopeful, but I doubt that it would ever happen, particularly over a tennis tournament

I think martinaluv means 3 month holiday for the players. I agree with what the aussies in here have said though, march would be crap because all the kids who have school wont be able to go. And its also hot in march.
If it does change to march it wont be immediately, but in the next 4 years or so.

hmm oh yeah... The Aussie GP is in March... I can just see the tennis doing great against that! ;)

Actually, the GP is surprisingly popular  ...and won't the AFL season have started by then? Lleyton will be telling people to watch the Crows rather than him!
