.. were in Melbourne. Court, Navratilova, Graf and now Serena. The exception been the late Maureen Connolly.

Graf wasn't, the first time. She was in Flushing. Neither was Navratilova. The Aussie was in November back then, so she completed hers at Roland Garros. I'm not 100% certain about that but very close to it.

How come Mo wasn't there?

Ummmm it's NOT 'the Grand Slam'
Only 3 women have achieved that - Connolly, Court and Graf.
A Grand Slam is the 'term' given to achieving 4 slams in ONE CALENDER year!
Serena should do it this year if she stays injury free but until she is passed that trophy at Flushing don't call it a 'Grand Slam'

I think what the clarification is, is that 5 women have won 4 different slams in a row, Calender and Non-Calender ... those five being - Court, Navratilova, Graf, Connolly & Williams. Apart from Connolly who has passed, all the others were in Melbourne for some reason or another - Williams, Navi were competing, Court was there for her naming of the MCA ect. And Steffi was there for Andre ... so it was very coincidental!! ;) - I personally think they should have a photo shoot together ... but anywayz!
