View Full Version : Will Kim lose her first match?

Jan 12th, 2003, 03:34 PM
Venus was expected to do great in France to take the #1 spot; she lost in the first round.

Mauresmo was the hotest player before the French in 2001; she lost in the first round.

Kim is very hot at the moment and the public is waiting for her to do great; WILL SHE CRUMBLE?

I hope not, Kim is very good under presure

i'm a die hard kim-fan and i must say ,i realy don't like all the pressure the media puts on her ,neither do i like her new role as "the player that can stop the williams domination".....
however, kim 's not the kind of girl who's gonna let all these factors get to her........i think she's gonna win her first rounds in two sets, and hopefully she'll be ready and lift her level that tiny little bit in the second week,to the top of her game.....
when she's on,she can beat everyone, but it all depends on sooooo many things ,like she said herself, you have to do everything wright for two weeks!!
kim is confident without being arrogant, has a terrific fighting spirit ,but is as friendly and down to earth as they get.
to me ,she'll always be a winner:)

i hope so.

No. Clijsters is one of the mentally strongest players I have seen over the years. To me an indication of a player's mental strength is how well they do in tournaments when they are top seeds - top seeds are usually the drawcards and everybody expects them to do well. I think Kim has won every tournament when she has been top seed - to me that says alot about how she is able to cope with pressures and expectations.

But I still think Amanda Coetzer will win (sorry Kim...)

Kim can handle the pressure, I would be really surpised if she would loose.

Jan 12th, 2003, 04:35 PM
I remember Kim crumbling to the pressure during the French open 02 after she had got to the final the past year. It's a possibility. But I think she has matured more and has more experience.

But anything can happen. Some people like being the underdogs and like the pressure not being on them. However, some relish being the favorites.

Kim will reach the semis where she will loose to Serena.

Jan 12th, 2003, 04:43 PM
Kim has such an easy draw, I don't see her lose before the semi's.

1st round: Samantha Reeves
2nd round: Petra Mandula
3rd round: Iva Majoli
4th round: Amanda Coetzer
QF: Chanda Rubin
SF: Serena Williams

F (if she gets there): Venus Williams, Lindsay Davenport, Jennifer Capriati or Justine Henin

Jan 12th, 2003, 05:12 PM
i dont think so, but that would be ironic if she did, and very hilarious i might with all the pressure everyone is putting on her...

Jan 12th, 2003, 05:28 PM
i don't believe she will - and for the sake of spectacle, i hope she doesn't!:

Jan 12th, 2003, 05:34 PM
Lose in the first round ... snowball's chance in hell ... of course not!
The Lady's on a roll ... hopefully she can worry the opposition ... !

Jan 12th, 2003, 05:38 PM
No way.

Jan 12th, 2003, 07:12 PM
Ok Kim is mentally a strong player but she is human you know ... everybody can lose in the first round!
But I hope not :D

Jan 12th, 2003, 07:58 PM
Yeah, Kim has a very easy draw. She is the only top player who doesn't have competition in the Quarter Final. She should make it to the Semi. It would be a major disapointment if she let the hoopla get into her head.

Kim is a very good player! She thinks about every match, it's not because the player is unseeded or something like that, that she thinks it would be an easy win!
Kim is a topplayer! I think she maybe lose in the Semi but not earlier!!

P.S.: Sorry, but my english is not so good!

I doubt it, but hey it can happen.

Jan 12th, 2003, 08:21 PM
Nah, she's pretty focused...

Jan 12th, 2003, 08:50 PM
Actually, Silvija Talaja will dispatch Clijsters 6-0 6-0 in the second round, but then lose to Majoli 7-6(10) 6-7(18) 21-19 and Iva will go one to with the event (beating Kostanic in the final)

I must say SAM Reeves impressed me GREATLY at the adidas when she beat Casanova. She has a dangerous combo. of power and great movement :)...if Sam maintains that form she has a shot, but it will be tough to do so against a top seed at a slam, i mean, 5 ppl (me included) watched her qualifying win over Casanova...LOL

Jan 12th, 2003, 09:20 PM
I'm not a big Kim fan, but I highly doubt she'll crumble in the 1st round. AND I have to say that, if someone's able to stop the Williams this year, it'll be Kim. Davenport is no longer the dominant player she was, Capriati...well...it's hard to know with her...but she hasn't impressed me much lately...Henin has some "mental" issues closing out matches...

So I hope Kim goes all the way :D

Jan 12th, 2003, 10:17 PM
Kim, like all the other plays in the draw, can lost her first round match but I don't think she will... she handles pressure well because imo, she doesn't feel the pressure. For her, she plays to have fun so I don't think she's buying into this whole "the player to stop the williams" frenzy that the media is trying to create. And what some people said in here is true, she did have bad results at the French and Wimbledon last year but imo that was simply because she wasn't playing well, not because she was under too much pressure... but at the moment she's obviously playing really well :) I hope she can continue this form into the next two weeks!

Jan 12th, 2003, 10:27 PM
Ok well good players loosing in the first round aren't completely out of the question, as Venus and Martina both know. However, it happens so rarely and I really doubt Kim would loose on Tuesday.

She's pretty much into the semis.

WHY??? Must players be burdened with the "Stop the Williams task"???

Did this phrase ("Stop the ------") ever come up before??

Why now?? This is media nonsense.

To win a Slam ANY player must be FOCUSED in every match they play. All players hope to play SEVEN matches and win the last one. This will not be accomplished if their mind is on meeting Venus or Serena while playing in an earlier round.

I am a Serena fan, but Kim certainly has the game to beat Serena.
In the Championships match, she was RETURNING Serena's 110+MPH serves many times for winners. (Serena did not expect the ball to come back in play and was not ready.) If she brings that game to the AO, she is VERY much a contender.

Jan 13th, 2003, 12:05 AM
She's playing pretty well so it's unlikely, but anything's possible.
I certainly hope not! I hope all the top girls make it through to give us a really exciting second week.

No. Before it was 2 members of the same family at the top, it was only "Stop ------"

Kim is playing great right now and that will only help her do well at the AO; I don't think she is paying attention to all the pressure being put on her; she has proven herself under pressure many times, in any case :)

I don't care about whether she "stops" the Williamses or not, but I hope she does well-- Kim is one of the nicest players on tour and deserves to win a slam, hopefully it will be this year

Jan 14th, 2003, 02:15 AM
Well she won it 6-2 6-1 and she didn't even play her best but still won y that score line:)

Another hapless victim. And a 183 kph serve. That's smokin.

Jan 14th, 2003, 11:00 AM
No, she won't.
