Count me in!! I've been away from the boards;but damn
it- hell I'm back. Who freakin cares if PS didn't do well in
the warm-ups. I say great- don't want to see our Enigma
peak too early.

It just feels great seeing her in the top 16 on a draw for a
GS again.

We don't care if you don't like her or whatever. Patty
appreciation is very similar to Wine appreciation. Either
you understand the difference between richness in special
bottles versus the popular label. You have to know what
"good tennis" is comprehend the genius of the Schnyder game.

Oh don't mind me friends. I just get cranky seeing a play-a
that I like get the last match of the day on a court. Oh welll..
thank the moon, and the stars that a certain Anna K something or
another isn't scheduled on the same court as the "ENGIMA".

Hahah. "ENIGMA". Sounds like something from a superhero comic.

why is it being made out that patty has so many people against her? we fans know her quality, but we really should not expect everyone else to, as she still really has to show she can reproduce her form this year, otherwise it could be back to the bad of days of being ranked 30-50. she may be under-rated, but i have never seen anyone on this board go on about how they do not like her.

i agree that it is great though to see her back where she belongs. i must have become accustomed to the old days because i was shocked when i saw she was on show court two against prakusya. great to see though!

i really hope she makes it to the fourth round, bc then i will see her play hantuchova, which should be great. she has a chance in my opinion to make her first grand slam semi-final here, and who knows, maybe she will even take the whole thing. now that would really shut up these doubters you speak of!

Patty vs Daniela?

That would be fantastic. 2 very interesting talented Euro's
who know can hit winners from a whisper to a scream. Let's
bring back classy tennis in 2003. Ok- sure we had are moments
in 2002 Patty winning, Maggie, even Chanda for the all court playa-
talented stick handling along with very clever or brainy net moves.

I'm just joking- about the "THEM against Patty" thing; but I
just always got the feeling that only the insiders knew just
how incredible of a talent she is. I go back to my favorite
tennis year 1998- 2 of my favorite players were Patty, and
Rios. LOL. I guess I'm just a sucker for clever tennis ala
Natasha Zvereva.

Day 1 isn't too bad. There's alot of interesting matches all
over the AO opening day. The bottom half IMHO def. looks
to be more entertaining.

If FC Basel can be the surprise of the UEFA Champions League?
Why can't Swiss tennis have it's day in the sun again?

Actually with Patty; it's more about being her own worst
enemy. She can beat anybody on a given day- if she
feel's up to it.

Wll, her draw is pretty good and a fourth round matchup with Hantuchova is possible. Ayway she's able to gain many ranking points at the AO, because she lost her first round match last year against Monica Seles :)

Good luck against Wynne :D I also think Patty has a pretty good draw. That's the first thing I noticed the first time I looked at the draw :)

Patty had an easy match against Wynne beating her 6-3, 6-1 :) Good luck in the next round...and cut down on your errors ;)

She really has to cut down her errors - 43 errors in a match lasting 58 minutes is way too much. Anyway she's through to the second round, that's the important thing about it.

btw Marrero and Kostanic are just playing a first set tie breaker :)

It must be my lucky year. Patty's match from set
number 2 was featured tape delayed toward the ending of
the day session on SUPER SPORTS Singapore channel 22.
It's actually the world feed from Channel 7 in Australia- but
great to see Patty.

Could not really judge Patty's form since Wynne didn't
play any warm of tournaments pre AO 2003 , and she played
like it. It was average on quality; but seeing Patty on court
made it nice. It's just not the sort of thing I've encountered in
my previous USA telecasts of grand slams. :)

have you seen the doubles draw???
Patty is playing together with Rita Grande and they're going to face Serena and Venus in the first round :(
They're both going to have more time to concentrate on the singles competition!

Really? No- have not looked at doubles partnerships yet.
Rita and Patty? Too bad about facing the you know who
team. Oh well- at least they'll have a good laugh about
the bad ass "In your FACE" gamesmenship of their opponents.

Facing the Williams in the 1st round...Well, we ALL know what's going to happen, don't we ?? ;)

Patty will be facing Marrero in the 2nd round. She should get through in two, or maybe three sets :)

yeah, I'd also say that Patty should win her second round match in two sets :)

i think patty must have played a much better match today (although the score was the same as the 1st round). when her unforced errors and winners are close it usually means she is playing pretty well. she is going to have to lift against petrova though, despite her strong record against her.

Petrova is going to be tough - that's right, but Patty is leading in the hth 3-1. She won the last one at last year's US Open in three close sets.
