Another win for Molik
January 8, 2003

ALICIA Molik saved two match points before finally beating Russian Vera Zvonareva in a marathon quarter-final of the Moorilla International Women's Tennis Tournament in Hobart.

The 21-year-old South Australian finally prevailed over the fifth seed 5-7 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 to continue her winning run against higher ranked opponents.
Molik, whose booming serve deserted her early, struggled for much of the match to stay on terms with the Russian's fierce and precise ground strokes.
"I was almost down and out," she said.
"It was my best win because I was fighting, fighting creating chances."
Molik, after fighting back from an early break lost the first set with a double fault.
The turning point came in the 10th game of the second set when Molik slumped to 15-40 on serve.
She saved both match points, finally held and forced a tie break where she quickly gained a decisive break.
After trading breaks early in the decider Molik gradually got on top, gaining the final break with aggressive returns and powerful drives.
She will meet unseeded Czech Iveta Benasova tomorrow for a place in the final.

Gutsy win for Alicia! :bounce:
