MELBOURNE -- La argentina Paola Suárez, cabeza de serie número 23 del torneo, avanzó hoy a la tercera ronda del Abierto de Australia, al vencer a la italiana Tathiana Garbin, quien se debió retirar durante el segundo set del partido por una lesión en el hombro derecho.
Suárez había ganado la primera manga, 6-1, jugando un tenis muy sólido, y se imponía, 3-0, en el segundo cuando la italiana decidió retirarse por los fuertes dolores en el hombro. Tras el partido Suárez dijo a EFE:"Me sentí muy bien y jugué un buen tenis. Me sorprendió que Garbin se retirara, pero después me explicó que se había lesionado en el hombro derecho y estaba muy dolorida".

"Los primeros cuatro juegos fueron parejos y el resultado del set inicial no refleja realmente lo que sucedió en la pista. Pero con el correr del encuentro fui ajustando mi tenis y me sentí muy confiada", agregó la argentina.

"Estoy contenta porque se está reflejando la pretemporada que hice y que será la base para todo el año. Espero seguir mejorando y progresando en la clasificación mundial", añadió Suárez.

Al ser consultada sobre sus futuras rivales, Suárez manifestó: No sé quienes será mis futuras contrincantes. En la tercera ronda pueden ser la australiana Nicole Pratt o la italiana Silvia Farina, y pienso que puedo obtener un buen resultado. Sobre el resto del cuadro, y contra quién voy a jugar si sigo ganando, no me preocupo, no lo miro. Prefiero ir ronda por ronda".

Paola & Vivi lost 6-4 4-6 3-6. Anyway they played very well, and they showed they are a great team. This was their first final in OZ, maybe next year they can step it up a little bit more:)
