OMG...What a match for TOmmy! :)

he fought off 2 match points after being down a break the whole third set at 4-5, then went on to win in the tie break.

Tough brek for Gambill though :(

At least the doubles count though!

Who has the edge there? ASV is obviously the best doubles player of the lot - but do her an Tommy play as well together and Seles-Gambill?

I don't really care who wins - I just wish I got it on TV :(

Tommy Robredo beat Jan-Michael Gambill 6-3 2-6 7-6 (7-2), levelling the tie!

Jan-Michael Gambill had two championship points on his serve at 5-4 in the 3rd set, but Tommy came back to win!

It now goes into a deciding mixed doubles match...

Does anyone have this on TV right now?

If Anyone does - what happened? Did Gambill dip or choke - or Did TOmmy just step it up a level?

rrr...I wish I had seen! I've never actualyl seen Tommy play on Tv before, and I've heard so much about him!

If i remember correctly, Gambill double faulted on his first championship point (mmm don't take my word for it), then Tommy had an amazing point to get it back to deuce, after a great rally he performing some sort of incredible high backhand volley to force Gambill's error! The crowd was right behind him! And Gambill threw his racquet down on the ground disgusted with himself, while Tommy couldn't stop smiling!

Yep! At the moment we've got Hopman Cup on one channel and AAPT Championships on another channel (Philippoussis match), so I keep swapping between!

Mixed doubles might take 20+ minutes to start because players need to shower.

Well done, Tommy! :D :D :D

Slamming his racquet down... yes, that does sound like Gambill.

How is Mark P doing? is he winning?

shinkas
Jan 5th, 2002, 11:20 AM
Yep he just won 6-4 6-1 against Hicham Arazi! Or at least I expected he was going to, he just squandered three match points of his own. Hang on, now he's won :)

Tomorrow he'll play Henman in the final.

Thanks Shinkas :)
Yay Mark P! :)

I hope he beats Henman - and that this is a precursor to him doing well in Oz - as long as he doesn't draw the same quarter as my fave! (ferrero :) )

I'm going to go turn on the Hopman score board right now~

No worries!

Yes Mark P is going well, his groundstrokes are very solid and I imagine he'll beat Henman tomorrow if he keeps his form. Henman was having a little bit of trouble with Alberto Martin earlier on.

Good GOod :)

Mark used to be my favourite, then he got pushed out of the way for Ferrero :) hehe

Anyhow - I see Monica and Gambill just broke - though now htye have two break points against them!

Spain didn't break :(
But they're up 4-3 on serve now after a good service game from Arantxa.

Poor Gambill!!! He double-faulted, giving Spain the first set 6-4!!

Spain won the mixed doubles 6-4 6-2 and with it the Hopman Cup!

Gambill looked depressed for most of second set, Robredo was on fire throughout!

Well done Spain!! :) :) :)

OMG WD SPAIN!!!

I told ya Tommy is a great player! After all he has defeated Federer, Zabaleta & Gambill in the same week... and this is not clay! :D Congrats ASV too, she fought in that second set against Monica and I'm sure she helped Tommy with her experience in that mixed doubles match :)

WOW, when they had predictions near late of last year people hardly predicted Spain would win exceptT me, I knew they had a chance to win. Arantxa's wonderful in these type of competitions and Tommy has that fire that both him and Arantxa possess so I knew they would be a great pair. CONGRATS to the USA, Monica and JM make a great team, but Spain was just too much at the end. I believe Spains' W/L at the Hopman Cup was 8/2 correct!? CONGRATS ARANTXA AND TOMMY!! :)

We will be seeing a lot from Tommy this year. And hopefully this will give Arantxa the confidence she needs. :) VAMOS!!
