TBH I won`t be surprised if they make the YEC ( Especially now when its TOP 8 in the race and not TOP 4 like before ) :oh: :oh:

Edinboro
Jan 30th, 2013, 09:38 PM
Its about time they increased the YEC doubles from 4 teams to 8. It was pretty ridiculous to call someone a YEC doubles champion when all they had to do was win two matches. :spit:

Robert-KimClijst
Jan 31st, 2013, 01:21 AM
Hahahaha, Lucie in the YEC for doubles... That would be something. It seems like she loves playing with Pavs though, and if she's having fun I think it will take the edge off singles a bit. Good win, two breadsticks! I don't mind that she lost the first set at all given how well she bounced back. Cornet will be a tougher ask, and the crowd will be against her. She should make the quarterfinals though.

Davodus
Jan 31st, 2013, 01:23 AM
I thought it was still top 4 this year for YEC then in 2014 they increase to 8 at the new place

I've just seen the highlights of her match against LDL. :hysteric: Lucie went from being a calamity; running around the court like a headless chicken, to GOAT in the second set. A strong finish in the end and very convincing win in the doubles too, GOAT indeed.

No disappointing loss to Cornet now Lucie...

It was great, i was wearing a very very beautiful green (PLASTIC) bracelet with "Village VIP" on it and surrounding by people that kept being on their phone instead of watching the game (very annoying those people). I was sitting very close to the court (the closest actually :p). I saw a part of bartoli's ass at a moment ... i almost vomited and passed out  And my father kept calling Voegele Sabrina or Stefania :worship:

The only other day session match saw No.6 seed and two-time Open GDF SUEZ finalist Lucie Safarova win a see-saw three-setter against Alizé Cornet, 62 46 62. Up next for Safarova will be Bertens.

"Kiki is a good player and it will be hard for sure, but let's see tomorrow," Safarova said about the looming match-up. "I lost to her at Wimbledon last summer, but grass is not a good surface for me.

"The key for me is to serve hard and play aggressively."

What do you mean Lucie Grassafarova?

Davodus
Feb 1st, 2013, 03:48 PM
Still pissed with this loss to Bertens :o she was playing too awful for too long, she finally got it back together and lead 5-4 and had 0-30 but missed that....then Bertens got huge luck and won. I would rather she just lose than come back and lose anyway, that's always so annoying. I'm just venting now  I'm sick of her missing opportunities to go far in draws.

I hope she gets it together for clay season. Im not really expecting much from Doha, IW, or Miami. Apart from the Fed Cup final she really has been playing poorly since the US Open. Trailing in sets, coming back to level it only to lose her service game while trying to stay in the match. Obviously we know its mental with her but what I think is lacking for her is a title. Honestly I do. It's been 4 and a half years since shes won one and with that kind of drought you have to be missing that winning attitude. Think of Radwanska. Radwanska went I think over three years without winning a single title. Then after winning a title she went on a crazy streak in tour events thats continued even to now. Granted they are different players but Radwanska got her stuff together once she won after a long drought.

I can't believe it. I actually had a sinking feeling when I saw Bertens was in as a lucky loser that if she played Lucie she'd win and it happened, just the same as the Keys incident... erghh!

In all honesty she probably payed for being too extreme up/down in her matches this week. The difference in the previous two matches was that her opponents' only real weapon was to keep the ball in play which gave Lucie enough time to get her shit together but today she ran out of time by the sounds of it.

Maybe Fed Cup can revive her. I won't hold my breath for anything too soon though...

Good luck in doubles...

She withdrew from doubles with a knee injury :o

OK, this may explain why she performed so bad in single, if she is injured, she should not play Fed Cup

Davodus
Feb 2nd, 2013, 09:16 AM
It also explains poor serving, because her leg drive was not as good as normal...I guess the strapping on the knee was more than just precaution.

And I agree, she should withdraw from Fed Cup if it isn't 100%

Davodus
Feb 2nd, 2013, 11:57 AM
So Lucie pulled out of doubles as a precaution for Fed Cup and is gonna have scans in the Czech Republic to see what the injury is :o I hope it's nothing serious and I hope she doesn't play on it injured just for Fed Cup

It's an insertion problem in her knee, she said she's had problems with it before but she's confident she can play fine and it's getting better each day...but it's got some serious strapping on it.

Saturday
R1: Petra Kvitova (CZE) v Jarmila Gajdosova (AUS)
R2: Lucie Safarova (CZE) v Samantha Stosur (AUS)

Sunday
R3: Petra Kvitova (CZE) v Samantha Stosur (AUS)
R4: Lucie Safarova (CZE) v Jarmila Gajdosova (AUS)
R5: Andrea Hlavackova/Lucie Hradecka (CZE) v Ashleigh Barty/Casey Dellacqua (AUS)

Have a bad feeling. I think Australia will beat Czech Republic :sobbing:

Kvitova is in horrible form, Lucie in weak form too, and injured. Hlavackova/Hradecka are not as strong anymore as they used to be. Currently I see the Australian team winning the doubles match. If Lucie has to withdraw from singles with injury Hlavackova or Hradecka can`t replace her. They would lose 100 %. Tough tie for Czech Republic

Davodus
Feb 9th, 2013, 11:40 AM
Who knows  them losing wouldn't be that upsetting, she won it so well last year I don't know if that could be topped...once you have 2 fed cup trophies it's not the end of the world if you don't get another..

That said of course I hope they win, but it'd be kind of nice to have a second half of the season where Fed Cup final isn't the only thing on her mind the whole time

But go Lucie :rocker2: being Australian I wouldn't enjoy the media fawning over the amazing Stosur and her Fed Cup heroics.

Well, today's match should improve her mentally alot, but how many times we said she will definitely improve after this or after that...Hsieh is actually a 'suprising' player, so I'm scared of that match tbh, and there's no one 'easy' in her section :o:sad::(

She won at least..nothing special, played solid on all wings...some blah errors but Daniilidou is weird to play, she throws in a lot of junk so it's difficult to get rhythm, plus it was windy. But good to get an easy win, her easiest this year.

BTW, this is Lucie's section:

Victoria Azarenka [1] - Bye
Tsvetana Pironkova - Romina Oprandi
Christina McHale - Vera Dushevina [Q]
Lucie Safarova [17] - Eleni Daniilidou

She probably won't get to defend her QF points, as Vika looms in the third round.

Dangerous second-round however, against Xtina, who beat her at the AO. Lucie should get redemption if she's focused.

Caroline Wozniacki [8] - Lucie Safarova

Serena Williams [2] - Bye

Too bad about the draw. She needs to make up the points lost in Doha, here! Plus, she has 2nd round points to defend. :o

Lucie's had her chances with generous draws but she seems to play worse the easier they are. She's more than capable of taking out Wozniacki but her form suggests otherwise.

The doubles GOATness is unquestionable. It looks set to continue, winnable match/es.

I may be over thinking it here but when you take it to affect that she led 5-1 in the 3rd set of the Rogers Cup semis against Li Na. Ever since then she has had so much trouble closing out matches. I'll never forget that match. Never was I so conflicted. I was driving down to Cincinnati which was starting the next day. Had Lucie won that I wouldn't have got to see her...But I wanted her to win so bad.

That was quite a heart-wrenching loss :o It may have an influence still...who knows. But if she doesnt get it together soon she is gonna take a big rankings hit. She is having so much trouble actually hitting winners...she just cant seem to put the ball away and finish the point. Sets it up, but ends up hitting right back to them, down the middle, or making an error....idk

I was even debating myself lately whether I should drive to Charleston for the championship weekend there cuz I love that city so so much and Lucie was in the final last year.

She loves Rogers Cup though. A SF, and 2 QFs ;) Thats probably her overall best tournament, besting out Madrid. Her form has ben bad. I wonder if maybe things are not working out well with her coach? She should get the Fed Cup captain to coach her and a sports psychologist to match :P.

They just blast the shit out of the ball and they went in :o Lucie and Pavs played ok...Lucie was pretty much the same the whole way, Pavs was very up and down...she had trouble putting volleys away, but sometimes hit enormous winners.

Rybarikova beat Oprandi 7-6 6-0...I didn't expect that, but Rybarikova is a good player...she's shown some form lately so it's not gonna be easy, but at least she doesn't do all the hacking and drop shotting. That said she does do that a bit

Lost doubles 6-4 4-6 10-5 :o I mean it's a good showing against the 3rd seeds and 2nd ranked team this year, but it was annoying. They had 15 BPs and only took 5. Pavs lost every service game, Lucie held every service game...they really could've won by taking a couple more of those BPs and Pavs taking a couple of the deciding points on her serves :o

Besides that, I think it is time to look for a new coach or at least train with someone else. She has had virtually no results in singles since The US Open last year. And there is no explanation for it either. Why prolong this? Lucie is now 26 which has become the perfect age for GOAT tennis. I'd really like to see her utilize these peak years. Any chance she can work with the Fed Cup coach? :P It seems to be the only place she gets results these days. :'(

But it's more than that. This hasn't been going all season, this has been going on for six months now, and no signs at all of improvement. She's pretty much going to lose all 1900 of her points within the next five and a half months which brings me to something else. Anyone know how many points she has accumulated since last September? About 300? That's really bad to gain such a small amount in a long time period. Her ranking will really suffer this summer if she doesn't get her shit together. The one good thing about all of this is that we are almost entering clay season, and if there was anytime I would expect Lucie to pull out of a slump, it would be on clay where she's usually at her best. One or two amazing wins could really turn this around for her..

I think Biljana was/is good for her in terms of her fitness and strategy, but not in terms of mentality. I think she makes Lucie think too much about technical things in her game and it makes her actually play them worse, and I think the serve is the best example of that. I'll leave my comments on the coaching situation to that for now, but if she finds another coach I won't be disappointed

Edinboro
Mar 13th, 2013, 02:41 AM
Yes, I definitely agree with you on fitness. I noticed that last year on one of the streams just how buff she was. She really improved her fitness. Her serve has been questionable as well. It seems a lot slower lately but I thought that had something to do with her injury?

Davodus
Mar 13th, 2013, 02:48 AM
I'm not sure, her 2nd serve has been a problem for a while, she's very tentative on it. I dunno, and I don't think we'll ever know what's happened properly...but something is definitely not quite right

Davodus
Mar 13th, 2013, 06:04 AM
Read back  something has happened, and the fact that Biljana is still there coaching Nadia when I assume Lucie has gone to Miami...I mean maybe she hasn't but even so, leads me to believe that they aren't working together. And If I'm really honest, I think that's fair enough. She's a singles player in the top 20 (not for much longer but at the start of the year she was) and it's really fair that she would not expect to have to share her coach. Biljana agreeing to work also with Srebotnik is in my opinion unfair. Just my opinion though, and it seems that maybe it started the end of their agreement.

Edinboro
Mar 13th, 2013, 06:30 AM

Welp, she draws Serena in her quarter, so she can say goodbye to her finalist points from last year.

[1] Serena Williams vs. Bye
Mandy Minella vs. Camila Giorgi
Q vs. Kristina Mladenovic
Anna Tatishvili vs. [15] Sabine Lisicki

[11] Sorana Cirstea vs. Tatjana Malek
Arantxa Rus vs. Anabel Medina Garrigues
Romina Oprandi vs. Mirjana Lucic-Baroni
[6] Lucie Safarova vs. Bye

Oprandi, Cirstea, Serena

:haha: points gone. Serena may pull out, but even if she did she will lose before the QF anyway.

Call me crazy but I have a feeling Lucie will play good tennis here. She has such good memories here from last year. I don't see her getting past the quarterfinals, but I see her reaching that round.

because they've been nightmare this year together, don't you think?

and Pavs was the champion in Monterrey a few years ago so if both could just focus a little bit more in their fav tournament, it would be better than another first round exit and then some consolation prize by reaching the doubles QF which honestly no one really cares at this stage :wavey:

They're 9th in the race together this year on 865 points...that's not really nightmare level. If Lucie had her doubles results for her singles results she'd be in great shape.

Hoping Serena pulls out so that Lucie wouldn't have to meet her in the QFs....

However, I don't think she'll even get that far. :sobbing:

Yep, not sure is the best of influence; not saying that her crappy play is due to Pavs but I just get the feeling that she's been taking things to lightly since she paired up with her...

I dunno where this comes from that Pavs is making her play bad or have some wrong attitude :o they've been good friends long long before they teamed up for doubles, for sure as far back as January 2011, and last year when they teamed up Lucie had her best year in terms of rankings...the problem with Lucie's play in my opinion is stemming from her coaching situation and possibly some other mental factors, not who she's friends with.

thats' exactly what i was talking about, QF-ish results in doubles and then first round defeat in singles together, this is not a good thing if it becomes a PATTERN, unless singles career's been turned into secondary consideration for both, then I'm fine (however I highly doubt she would make that decision at PEAK of her singles ranking)

I agree the problem with Lucie's play in my opinion is stemming from her coaching situation and possibly some other mental factors, not who she's friends with., but shouldn't her puzzling lack of confidence justify some extra "sacrifice" or change in their friendship time to address?

I've been a fan of Pavs for a long time and I know how good she once was, but am just saddened to see her level drop to this shit and looks like she doesn't even care

not something I would like to see on Lucie

Lucie's level dropped to something far worse than this in her previous slumps, and she got it back together. It's a cycle for her, she's clearly emotional, but there's no specific explanation for her slumps. I fail to see how anyone could say with any authority that pavs is influencing her negatively just because you think Pavs doesn't care that she isnt playing well. She came to Brisbane much fitter and played great and made the final. They both have their own independent issues. I really cannot understand any reasoning for saying she has to sacrifice or change her friendship with Pavs because her confidence is low. If anything it's probably good she has a friend that close.

I mean when you read this http://isport.blesk.cz/clanek/tenis/136187/safarova-o-berdychovi-po-vitezstvi-ve-fed-cupu-mi-ani-nenapsal.html its pretty clear she felt stifled for a long time when she was with Berdych, and making these new friends/opening herself up to people has freed her up quite a lot.

The source of this slump could even come down to a poor off season, we could theorise for days but it won't make us any closer to knowing.

I wasn't implying to sacrifice their friendship, I was simply suggesting if each has independent issue and teaming up together doesn't really seem to be the remedy (which is the Pattern I mentioned), maybe they could save some of the BFF time to focus on their own problems

Maybe I shouldn't say "I'm just glad Pavs is not there" which doesn't seem to be the right attitude, I apologize

Not sure if I've read that article you linked, but I do feel for her having difficult times in her personal life and was more than happy of her personal high ranking and sublime ending in the Fed Cup last year

I'm not questioning, and would NEVER, her determination to go out of this slump, again IT'S the pattern that worries me and I would love to see/welcome any change

Yeah  but i doubt it was a huge issue mentally for her that would cause this...they were together less than a year and she was playing well after she broke up with Berdych. Who knows anymore, we'll see how clay goes. If it flops then the slump is real.

She's split from Biljana and is working with Rob Steckley atm...I saw it on twitter. I would assume that's not full time, he just had a kid. But who knows...I'd say she'll be on the lookout for someone else. I knew the coaching situation was a problem :o

Srebotnik

I'd like her to have a full-time coach, one she does not have to share... I'm glad Lucie found her footing on clay wit the doubles; it should make the singles an easier adjustment since Lucic already has a match under her belt.

Davodus
Apr 3rd, 2013, 04:18 PM
I agree, the sharing coach situation was never going to work. It's a shame, I'm disappointed by it. I feel like Lucie was let down by Biljana even agreeing to coach Srebotnik as well in the first place.

Yeah, and like she said after the match, she had such a rush of good memories when stepping out on the court. I think that will settle her down a bit. She's in such a rut rankings-wise that I don't think she's even too concerned about these finalist points. Probably just hoping to play good tennis again, and she feels confident on the green clay here.

I think that's all we are hoping for too...if she beat Cirstea and made the QF and lost to Serena I would be happy because it would show a turnaround in confidence and form which is all she needs right now. Dropping out of the top 20 isn't the hugest deal anymore, she just needs to start to play well and get the feeling of winning again

Apr 3rd, 2013, 09:50 PM
The change of court seems to have done her the world of good, she looks a bit more at home. Even watching her in the doubles yesterday she seemed much more solid and consistent in her groundstrokes. It could have been similarly easy against Lucic as last year but that mini-battle might help her confidence for future matches.

She stopped working with Biljana after Paris and right now Rob Steckley is helping her in the US events, I dunno about when it goes back to Europe if he'll go as well or she'll find someone else

I would have been pretty worried if she couldn't beat Lucic, who has only just recently returned to any kind of form resembling wta level (although she used to be good).

Thanks for the update on the coaching situation David.
