Tournaments can still be added. But I would not expect many more to be added. (If any at all)

Most in China. Good for them, but I want some in Europe and NA!

I like how all those new 125ks have useless Top 50 WCs because pretty much no one can use it due to the new rules. We will just have a bunch of random Chinese or South American players roaming through the tournament and earn 160 points.

pretty terrible schedule. don't expect this concept to survive through to 2014 if the calendar stays like this. i wouldn't expect must spectator interest in north america, but why doesn't europe have any??

There are no "emerging markets" in Europe. And with all these restrictions, it makes a very little sense to have this instead of 100k ITF. As long you don't care about being a "WTA" tournament.

 I said that on a Taiwanese BBS and I was pretty much scolded that I didn't bring $ or put time into hosting the tournaments so I should shut up. ITF 100k has way less restrictions and easier to manage than WTA. 10 points, big whoop.

Are the WTA counting this joke tournaments as titles still??? The WTA's feud with the ITF is ridiculous like these 100k replacements.

yes, i think mladenovic's win counted as her maiden title :o

Absolutely.

IMO way more than Taiwan who is an established market by now.

Well, I was thinking it's more Chile and Brazil that are economic leaders of the continent.
Colombia still is for me -> Gaitan, narco business, kidnapping etc.:p

Same for Svitolina :o
I agree with you, this is so childish of WTA to have these, and they are weaker than the real 100K - which by the way get no mention at a player's resume on their site other than "continued to play on the ITF tour", unlike making R2 at an international for instance.

Meelis, if it was decided that this innovation deserve its own sub-forum after all, could you please move in here the two from last year as well?

Viennalover
Feb 7th, 2013, 04:16 AM
looks like it will be counted as WTA title since Elina and mladenovic's profile on WTA HP show's 1 title...

not sure if it's official or not but we do have Premire and Internationals but we don't separate them when we count WTA titles so maybe 125 too??

Well done WTA another successful development I see. From the roadmap to this bullshit the tour continues to go downhill.

I wouldn't say that. I don't know if you remember, but before the change of status in the wta calendar, there were some Tier IV-tournaments and for me these one are actually kind of revivals of these one. I think it's a good think, it's a chance for newcomers like Svitolina or Mladenovic to make some points and get ready for the WTA tour. There are a lots of differences between WTA and ITF just only in the rules and regulations.

I checked and only three times in the year you can find three WTA tournament the same week. These one will allow players as high (low) as 250-300 to get in the qualies and for these players it is really important to be sure, they can get in the tournament before they buy their flight ticket.

Personnaly I like these "150's" and I'm sure in about 2 years there will be something like 12-15 in the calendar

Apparently there will be a WTA125 during Fed Cup weeks from next year too.

Maybe Pune will also move to another city in India?

This is probably like the single goal the WTA has with these events . I exaggerate, of course, but they just want to be able to play something the same week as Fed Cup.

I would say that they are more like Tier V event, who used to have 110k usd as a prize money.
In my opinion all 100k ITF events should be promoted, and the schedule would contain some more tournaments, because right now it's a really big challenge to win a title. Tennis calendar needs more variety, and for sure more tournaments. I admire all those players, cause I would be fed up with playing for 10 years in almost same cities.

I double checked and didn't see anything, I think we'll have to wait til fall when the itf and wta calendar are finalised to get some news about it, but if i'm not wrong they hope to have about 15 of these tournament until 2017

:oh: Anyway, it would suit better in a week after Osaka as there are two weeks between Osaka and Nanjing/Taipei Challengers (and nothing between in Asia).

If they do that those rotten flowers won't get enough points cause all the good players will be here. Not going to happen.

If the Chinese players were good enough, they wouldn't need sub-ITF100k level tournaments (placed carefully when everyone else is in the USA) to ratchet up cheap points. if this is what developing markets means, let ITF do it....
