I find really unfair that with tons of alternates some girls have a bye in first round, specially when the first two rounds are played in the same day

Jan 19th, 2013, 08:11 AM
what means (OA) please?

Jan 19th, 2013, 08:22 AM
^^ Organizers Acceptances, entries determined by the tournament organizers and not the Tennis Europe rankings. It's necessary for a tournament like this to allow more countries to get entries, and to make sure good players who haven't really focused on TE rankings don't get left out.

Jan 19th, 2013, 08:38 AM
They generally use the organizers acceptances to allow countries that don't play european tournaments (USA, Canada, Australia, Japan) to get their players in the main draw, thy use it too for european countries that don't have any player in the main draw by ranking.
I don't agree when they use it to get another french player in the main draw. Wargnier totally deserve to be in the main draw, because she is the best french and her ranking doesn't match her level, but if they don't use the maind draw wc in players that doens't have a chance to go far on the draw, they could use it on players like Lucie who really has a chance.
And to be fair, i don't agree with the OA to Swan and Robic either, because Great Britain and Serbia have players on the main draw.

Other years they have limited players by country in the main draw, and that would be a good idea, because this years there are tons of russians, and frankly, i don't think half of them are as good as their ranking sugest

Jan 20th, 2013, 12:08 PM
Francesca Jones is the first qualifier to get into the main draw

Jan 20th, 2013, 02:45 PM
Well Done Fran :)

Good luck to the Brits in MD

Jan 20th, 2013, 05:44 PM
The eight girl who are in the MD now are, Francesca Jomes, Paula Arias Manjón, Shelly Krolitzky, Nely Sunjic, Aba Biskic, Mihaela Lorena Marculescu, Andra Bozinovic and Arianna Capogrosso.

Interesting thing that Francesca, Paula, Nely and Mihaela were all born in 2000. And Tarbes is not usually and easy qualy draw for first year players to pass

Awful draw for spanish girls. Specially awful for Paula, with Wong in first round, and Levashova and Ibbou in her side of the draw.
I wasn't expecting to repeat last years good result, but with a more favourable draw i expect them to advance a round or two. Now i will be happy if at least one reach second round

Sofya and Destanee :inlove:
Destanee can play again next year :D

The truth is this is one of the years with more u13 girls in the draw, there are at least nine girls born in 2000

Jan 20th, 2013, 10:39 PM
I'm not exactly sure how Destanee got seeded and Wagnier is unseeded in this draw

Jan 21st, 2013, 07:46 AM
Because Wargnier is european and her ranking is pretty bad. Aiava like Bellis don't play european tournaments so it's logical they recieve a special treatment for their level

I'm pleasently surprised by Eva's performance, i hoped she could win but i din't expected it would be so easy against a player who is very near her in ranking

Jan 21st, 2013, 11:06 AM
Aiava/Liu will be very interesting. Arguably the two best '00 girls at this stage. Both lost to Wargnier last week too.

Jan 21st, 2013, 11:41 AM
In my opinion Liu is not at her best right now. I think Aiava will win quite easy.
Liu needed today three sets against Boltinskaya, who was born in 2000 too, and Natalia is a good player but she was defeated by most of european top players of her age, like kulikova, Makarova, Collins , Arias Manjón or younger players like Potapova, and in some cases (Collins, Arias Manjón or Potapova) it were clear defeats

Good fight Paula, next year it will be better. The poor girl doesn't have any luck with the draw, not even in the consolation draw, because Jaeda Daniel is not exactly the easiest rival on that draw

Jan 22nd, 2013, 06:14 PM

Jan 22nd, 2013, 06:37 PM
Only one French girl to the 2nd round, that's quite disappointing...

Jan 22nd, 2013, 07:09 PM
Only one French girl to the 2nd round, that's quite disappointing...

But expected, the decline of France in U12 competitions is clear in the last years. Wargnier is really the only one with good results, and unfortunately for her, she is in the toughest part of the draw

Jan 23rd, 2013, 12:34 PM
The Aiava - Liu match is a lot more interesting that i predicted 5 5 in the third right now.

Girl in third round till now:
Rosca, Mikheeva, Mendez, Vondrousova, Gordon, Ureke, Sebov, Guerrero, Bellis, Yushchenko and Pieri

Jan 23rd, 2013, 12:51 PM
Aiava pulled out the victory in a deciding tiebreak. Yastremska actually served for the match against Zhuk, would have been a massive upset. Mikheeva v Gasanova lasted 3 hours 33 minutes, 1 minute shorter than Fed-Tsonga. Must have been injury timeouts? Moonball rallies?

Figured Destanee's match would be close. Hope she starts playing juniors later this year.

Good stuff from Seone and Jamie too, even though the latter went down.

That part of the draw with Ibbou, Wargnier, Levashova, Wong, Daniel and Arias was terrible. Tarbes is probably the toughest U14 tournament, and it's very difficult to reach third round without face a strong rival, but the part was simply too much, and the fact that Bolton runner up is out in second round is a clear indicative of that

Pretty expected SF lineup even though Sofya was one game away from losing her R2 match.
I'm pretty sure we'll have a Rosca vs. Bellis final and Romanian will win it.

Bellis/Daniel vs. Pantuckova/Vondrousova is the doubles final.

Jan 26th, 2013, 02:20 PM
The expected final. I will bet on Rosca, she has some impressive wins this weeks against top players, but Ci Ci only lose a set, so it will probably be a tight final.

And last year final shows that favouritism not always mean a victory

Just 2 games

She actually got 3. ;) juki got it wrong, the score was 1 and 2.

Jan 27th, 2013, 05:58 PM
Easier than expected. For the second year in a row the winner only lose a set in the whole tournament and in both cases against a spaniard.

I'm very happy for Eva's progress, two weeks and she only lose against the best player of her age right now (and in the second match she did a lot better than in the first).

Next week winter cups u14 and u16. U12 played their qualifying this weekend, but anything but a Russian win will be a surprise (very powerful team with Potapova and Makarova)

Jan 27th, 2013, 08:25 PM

:woohoo: The American prospects keep coming.

Jan 28th, 2013, 02:14 AM
Rosca's forehand looks like she is just hitting an out ball back over to the other side :help:

Jan 28th, 2013, 06:51 AM
From Vondrousova/Rosca

Rosca's fh come of the other planet ! :))

Jan 28th, 2013, 11:52 AM
Ostapenko won here two years ago and she also has a very unorthodox forehand :p

Congrats CiCi :yeah:

Jan 28th, 2013, 12:07 PM
I don't think Rosca's forehand looks that weird, just a lot of low to high :D
Looks similar to Zheng's IMO :)
Vendrousova reminds me so much of Kvitova
She will be very good as she also comes to net a lot. She will have a far better career than Rosca who just moonballs :(
It will be similar to Komardina and Ostapenko :armed:
Sofya Zhuk is still the best  :worship:

I really liked Bellis game. I complain a lot about Bucsa's moomballs but even her is more aggressive in indoor hardcores than Rosca (Bucsa reserves her moonballs for clay courts).
Anyway Rosca is tall, and i think she will play more aggressive in the years to come
