Here is an odd one from Slovakia ;)

In the night from 5 to 6 December, there is the Svaty Mikulas (Saint Nicolaus) with a demon and an angel visiting all houses in Slovakia. The children put thier shoes out by the door. If the children were good the whole year, they find fruit or a bar of chocolate from Svaty Mikulas in thier shoes. The bad children receive coal or potatoes from the demon.

We do it like this.
In the barn lives the soul of the grounder of the farm. he, Nissen materialises as a small man with a cat-like face. He and his folks looks after our animals.
At the darkest time of the year, what you call christmas, and we calls jul his power is stronger than the rest of the year. To keep him satisfide we gives him poridge. if we canīt do that, he, Nissen, will cast a spell om the animals and people on the farm. :wavey:
