Russia's national drink - Vodka - is being used as a disinfectant to protect the health of Russian President Vladimir Putin during his stay in India.
A Russian microbiologist - who is in Delhi to sanitise Mr Putin's hotel suite - has used Vodka to clean up the cutlery being used by the Russian president and his wife Lyudmila, the hotel authorities say.

Mr Putin who is currently on a three-day visit to India is a fitness enthusiast who reportedly wants to ensure the highest standards of health and hygiene during his stay in the Maurya Sheraton hotel in the Indian capital.

A public affairs manager in the hotel, Sonia Bakshi, told the BBC that all the cutlery had been washed with vodka.

"All his plates, knives and forks were washed with vodka and then dried with towels," she said.

Tandoori favourite

Ms Bakshi said the Russian president liked the delicacies he was served.

"He specially liked tandoori preparations like chicken prawns," she said.

Mr Putin was served stuffed chicken in fried bread (paranthas) for breakfast on Wednesday and had different tandoori preparations for lunch along with packed juices, the hotel authorities said.

The former US President Bill Clinton also enjoyed a similar kind of a cuisine during his stay in this hotel earlier, they said.

But there were strict orders from the Russian authorities that there should be no salads or cut fruits and even no cream in Mr Putin's food.

The hotel authorities said security drills were organised before Mr Putin's visit.

"The Russians tested the air and water at the hotel," they said.

Nearly 100 rooms have been booked in the hotel for the Russian delegation.

Rae - with your support, it's a pleasure. :wavey: you're the best.

It sounds weird to me to disinfect one's surroundings with vodka.
