Flavia is training in Barcelona. Why is he in Melbourne? Why not with Flavia?

As far as I know he's not Flavia's coach anymore. Since September of last year actually.
Not sure about the new coach...

Oh yes I found this:
"A former top-ranked doubles player and Top 10 singles player, Pennetta was beset with injuries in 2012. She also told the newspaper that she has split from longtime coach Gabriel Urpi and will begin to work with Karim Perona and Salva Navarra, who once worked with Juan Carlos Ferrero and Tommy Robredo."

But they were such a good team with Urpi

Well it's surprising to see her with a new coach so late in her career. But maybe this is just what she needs, some fresh air. She has said she wants to come back stronger than ever, so we'll see.

Do you guys think this is her last year BTW?

If she doesn't win a MM to earn her place she can get a wild card by sleeping with the tournament director like Ivanovic and Hantuchova.

I am very optimistic to be honest. She's been playing great tennis, just at random...she needs match practice and let's not forget clay isn't her best surface and in bogota it's even harder to play well given the extreme conditions ;)

she more or less fed herself with it, she completely runned out of gas and broke down mentally, but that's easy to expect...she went *40-0 with terrific shots in the first game, Lara did nothing but Flavia got broken thanks to a couple of silly mistakes, fought hard to break back and had some chances but wasted them...on *0-2 I think she got a little frustrated and made too many mistakes and 3 or 4 DF  then it was just a will to leave to court as fast as possible I guess

Special Ranking. You get it when you don't play for six months. It is the ranking you had at your last tournament and you can enter tournaments with that ranking. I think there is a limit (I think 10) on how many times you use it and you have to use them within a year. I am also pretty sure you can only use it for only one grand slam. So she will probably have to qualify for Wimbledon :tape:

So if she keeps her ranking above 108 until the week of Fed Cup, she better save her SR for Wimbledon - Rome points are coming off in the meantime so she's definitely likely to need it then.:tape:

And good win in doubles indeed. :)

it was posted on Alex D. page, since she's going through a similar comeback:

Here for SR:

Definition: A player’s Special Ranking will be the ranking she earned immediately after the points of the last Tournament she played has been added to the WTA Tour Rankings.
Number of Tournaments: A player will be granted eight(8)Tournaments in which to use her Special Ranking.

And here for WC:

Wild Card Maximum: Except as otherwise set forth herein, the maximum number of Wild Cards a player may receive into Premier and International Tournaments and Grand Slams during a Tour Year is six (6), with a maximum of three (3) allowed in the Main Draw. Notwithstanding the foregoing, a player shall not be precluded from accepting Wild Cards into Grand Slams after she has reached the maximum. Wild Cards accepted into ITF Women’s Circuit events and WTA$125Ks count separately. The maximum number of Wild Cards a player may receive into WTA $125Ks during the calendar year is three(3). These Wild Cards are in addition to the maximum number of Wild Cards allowed in Premier/International Tournaments.

Thank you Dom and Gaspa for the update.

Would be great if there was no limitation for number of GS on SR, means she would be seeded on any, I suppose.

And her matches would be broadcasted hopefully :armed:

So she needs to get in the MD at RG, so she can use her SR at Wimbledon and play her favourite tournament the week before Wimbledon (instead of having to go and qualify in London).

Well, with Sara not being allowed to play Rosmalen, Flavia really better show up :bigcry:
Wins in RG won't help her getting into Wimbledon MD though. ;)

RG list is out the week of Fed Cup. I think Flavia has nothing coming off before then (maybe Barcelona, I'm a bit confused) and she's at 105 now, so she could well make that.
And she actually might get lucky for Wimbledon as well - looks like Rome comes off the week after Wimbledon lists are out. Pfew.

I am sorry for you Linda  I know how does it feel, even though for you it was even worse as she gave hopes with that first set...in Rome she simply was bad.

I am sorry to say that, but I really believe she should have never come back, this is embarassing for her career because there's nothing to add by doing this, unless you call those bad losses and a big chance to be out of top 200 by july as a good way to say good bye

Ouch! Fran you're so harsh. Flavia did hit some good winners. Well it is grass and it's slooow Marion but still they look great. :hearts: Marion did swat away easily a lot of her rally shots (and her serve :tape:) and defensive shots. :awww: Flavia.

Wherever her game have went now, at least her interactions with the umpire was at least entertaining. "Oooh la la mamma mia!" Flavia is still so dramatic. :hearts:

Dramatic Flavia :hearts:

Obviously I didn't see the match but it's not like anyone thought she'd beat Marion, right? Better get some match practice in doubles. And draw a random WC at Wimbledon.

she couldn't defeat an injured Bartoli despite playing well for most of the first set :spit: she needs to draw Cadantu to stand a chance in round 1 and be in Barthel's section too :haha:

see her drawing Serena or Maria now :rolls:

First round vs. Baltacha, she should be able to win that one, but then it's Azarenka in her way and I don't see any chances there.
BTW, Flavia always gets drawn at the bottom end of the draws.
Playing doubles with Petko :hearts:

Just quietly, I hope she loses to Baltacha to save the embarrassment of only getting a few games in the next round :oh:

She played well

Good win. Hit some nice winners. Looked really pumped and happy after the win!!

Second serve looked dodgy though, but still a great match!

22 Winners and 14 Unforced Errors is the best I've seen from her in a long while...it's really nice to see her playing well for a whole match for once...

now good luck not being double bagelled by Vika

Mostly good play by Flavia. But her serve ist still a mess and I think it has been like that all the way since her comeback.

Vika injured her knee in R1. Not saying Flavia has to win this now, but...

Saw it on federtennis earlier.

Sounds like she doesn't want to retire but also doesn't want to be stuck in challengers.
