Figured fans and non fans would be curious on an update about her injury. Have to feel for one of the more bubbly personalities on tour.

Andrea Petkovic ‏@andreapetkovic
So it's a rupture of the meniscus, back to Germany as soon as possible for an arthroscopy. Relieved it wasn't the ACL again.

Andrea Petkovic ‏@andreapetkovic
On the to-do-list: 1.Cut my hair. Short. Very short. 2.Dye it pink or blonde 3.Hold Rafa's hand until we're both healthy again.

Andrea Petkovic ‏@andreapetkovic
Just kidding. I would never do that......the Rafa thing, I mean ;)

At least she seems like she's trying to take it all in stride. Get well soon Petkovic.

How long will a meniscus tear keep her out?

edificio

Seems like a rupture is as bad in terms of time out, no?

Hope she can get that knee healthy.

When she had that really short cut a couple years ago, I thought it looked great. People are way too invested in the long-hair look these days. :)

Hopefully the injury doesn't keep her off the courts for too long.

Good to hear that.

I tore my meniscus a couple of years ago and was able to run and jump again after 1-2 months. If this was her first knee injury I'd say it's not a big deal...
I hope she'll be back soon though

Hope she makes a speedy recovery and then is injury free for a good period of time. She's due some good luck and the tour will be better off for the return of one of its livliest and most likable characters.

It's not a "small injury": it's probably will take another 3-4 months...

Yeah, I was thinking that she and Rafa need to form a club. Good that she can still have a sense of humor about it. Hoping for a quick, and full, recovery.

Feel so bad for her. The tour needs personalities like Petko. Hope for more optimistic news from Germany in a few days when she's had it checked out.

Andrea in her own words:
"I had an MRI this morning and they found out it is a rupture of the medium meniscus," Petkovic said. "They don't know yet if they have to trim it. If they do it will be fine and I will only be out for a month. I could probably be playing already after two weeks, hitting balls. That would be really great.

"If they have to sew it up again it will take two to three months, but nonetheless I'm quite relieved that it wasn't the ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) as it was a very similar pain and symptoms to 2008 when I had my ACL torn in Australia."

The reality is: IF she's out for another 3 months she will have to play 25k's and it wouldn't be a done deal that she'll climb back into top 50 this year. And the big question is, how it would affect her psyche after having a serious injury the third time in a row. Furthermore, every injury layoff of that kind would make it harder for her to regain the level she had in 2011 at all. I don't believe we will see her as a top 50 player for years to come. She would rather retire than being a mediocre player for the rest of her career.

Mixed feelings about this. ACL would have been worse but this is bad enough. I wonder how it ruptured, from what i read here she didn't make a wrong movement?

I think she actually didn't have it fully recovered. 6 days or so before the match she was training with strapping on it, yet she didn't wear any on court today. Not sure if that would have helped, but the fact that it went by itself from just an ordinary movement means there must have been a prior injury which she was not fully recovered from.

Still bad news that shes injured but a massive relief that its not a re-occurence of her acl. Shes quite clearly happier today though with that news so thats good. Cant crush that girls spirit, shes so remarkable. Cant think of any players that would be able to make jokes about her injury after what shes been through.

Wait - so after all the injuries she cannot get a PR to restart her career.

I wonder where her ranking will be later

You must be out for at least six months in a row for SR.
