I took part with her in an exhibition held this year at the Midtown Sporting Club in Montreal and I believe she said she would retire at the end of this year...(2013)

WTA #275 Madalina Gojnea retires at only 25

Former Roland Garros junior finalist in 2004 where she lost vs Karatantcheva, defeated Sara Errani there 63 61 in 2005 and also Victoria Azarenka 61 61 in the 2003 Orange Bowl. Partnering Niculescu, won the European Championships U18, were finalists at the USO juniors and semifinalists in Roland Garros and Orange Bowl.

Winner of 12 singles ITF singles titles and 11 ITF doubles titles she achieved her career high ranking of #149 in 2011.

Always struggling with injuries (was out from September 2007 to March 2010 with several injuries) could not take it anymore and now has decided to retire and become a tennis instructor. Too bad she never played a Grand Slam main draw, especially when she reached the last round of qualies in Melbourne and Roland Garros 3 times.

Best of luck, Mada

Emma Laine probably counts as 2013 retiree. Based on fact that she was not accepted on 2012 retiree list despite my strong claims :p Her pro license ended this year. Have not seen official announcement, but not being part of our FedCup team (http://www.fedcup.com/en/draws-results/group-ii/europe-africa/2013.aspx) pretty much seals it. She´d easily make it to doubles team for next 15 years. Our depth

She is now coaching juniors :)

Her company (http://www.nhstraining.fi/valmentajat.html) lists her as:

Emma Laine
Co-Owner
Head Coach

I highly doubt that. I saw them play last Sunday and Kookie and Sesil played and moved really well. Apart from this, they went straight to play in Nuremberg after having played in the Bundesliga. Why would you do that if you were pregnant?

Two months later, Julia: http://www.sportnews.bz/it/tennis/dettaglio-news/news/julia-mayr-dice-basta-con-il-tennis.html

Both were constantly injured.

Evelyn and Julia Mayr both decided to retire this year.

Evelyn: http://www.sportnews.bz/it/tennis/dettaglio-news/news/evelyn-mayr-dice-basta-il-tennis-mi-ha-dato-tanto-nella-mia-vita.html
Two months later, Julia: http://www.sportnews.bz/it/tennis/dettaglio-news/news/julia-mayr-dice-basta-con-il-tennis.html

Both were constantly injured.
Evelyn will become a swimming teacher. By having to follow physiotherapy in the pool, she discovered this new passion.
Julia will study maths and/or sport. She will be tied to tennis by being a tennis teacher during summer and maybe by playing some national tournaments.

Thanks. I have updated the list now.

Venise confirms her retirement via facebook

Venise Chan
Today I am sad to tell you my leave from full time professional tennis due to occasional injuries and personal reasons.

It's been 20 years since I first held a tennis racket in my hand and the last 6 years was exceptionally memorable with playing experience both as a college amateur player and as a pro player on tour. It was my passion for tennis and the honour of representing Hong Kong that motivated me to keep me going all these years.

Recapping the incredible 15 years of unforgettable memories, I recall times of wins and losses, of reaching a highest ranked at no. 1 in HK women's tennis, no. 24 in world juniors, no. 340 in world women's, of playing in all junior grand slam events, of traveling across 35+ countries in the world, of days of solitude and of true camaraderie.

But what I treasure the most are the people that I have met. Each one of you have come into my life unexpectedly and each one of you have brought me joy, sadness, hope, fear and also opportunities. I would like to thank all of you who truly believed in me and supported me throughout this journey. Thanks to all my sponsors, coaches, mentors, advisors, friends, fans, the association and all who played a part in supporting HK tennis. Especially for the last 2 years, thanks to you who always stood by me and made the impossible possible. Of course, lastly, thanks to my parents who supported me and encouraged me to follow my dreams. Although tennis to me was a dream that came true, I believe that there is a world beyond tennis that I seek and I look forward to this new chapter of life.

If you asked me what kind of advice I'd give to young players who want to make it big out there, it would be to stay focus and to work really hard. In life, it's tough to balance all things perfectly, so if you believe you have made the right choice, go for it and never regret about it. To differentiate yourself from the rest of the competitors, you ought to be willing to go the extra miles and to sacrifice your own time because persistence, patience and effort are the keys to winning. Those three things have always been in my mind and they brought me to where I want to be today. Practice makes perfect but you got to practice in the right way with the right guidance too. Honing my skills took me many years of training but even today I would never say I'm an expert of this game.

I have always admired and respected players who strive so hard for success. Being a professional tennis player was never easy and I just want to wish all of you the best of luck and may 2014 bring you what you dream of and strive for.

As for you, tennis, my soul-mate, our parting today needs not last forever. We will meet again one day just like we always do.

Happy New Year

Milevskaya, Frankova, Lertcheewakarn, Buzarnescu, Bogdan...

Those girls at least did okay by getting top the top 300 and top 200, etc. Njiric and Silva haven't even done that

Ksenia seemed so talented. Elena Bogdan was the biggest disappointment for me though. :(

I found yet another retirement. Romana Tedjakusuma from indonesia (INA) retired in 2013.

It's been foreseeable because she played her last tournament at the end of the 2012 season and the years before she kept playing more or less regularly. So, sadly, another veteran finally calling it quits. Gl in your life after tennis, romana!

Bojana Bobusic  well she kinda retired in 2013 but played 2 mixed doubles just as a fill in for Hopman cup. And yes its official as she was asked whether she was gonna come back or not but said she woke up stiff after 1st doubles match so it wasnt likely at that point.
