This is just sad. ACL tear (12-15 months setback), back injury and severly sprained/tore ligaments in the ankle (12 months setback). Now the same knee with the ACL tear again (possibly another 12-15 months setback). How can you come back from that not only physically, but mentally?

i really like the look of Ash. Should have won that set, became a little bit passive when she got up a break. But she's got a surprisingly good serve for someone so short, great forehand, solid backhand, some touch with her volleys/drop shots. Movement can still improve hopefully, but even now she seems to scramble quite well.

I am a big Petko fan, that is why I say she should retire. Her body is simply unable to cope with professional tennis. I know it is not a very popular opinion, but it is not worth waiting for another year just to have a new injury in two moths. She is bright, inteligent, she can do a lot of things even related to tennis. Life is cruel.

 The trainer being called looked pretty precautionary until the knee was actually taped (pressure?). Can only hope it's more to do with the mind, she deserves so much better. Was VERY nervous when she was smashing her racket into her feet half way through that set thinking it was not a smart thing to do...with leg injuries and all. Hope she is back quickly and its nothing bad, the tour needs players like her up and about.

Watched the match a bit, stepped out for a min & when I returned she was crying ...looked like she severely aggravated an existing injury:( This is why I always say the game has gotten really physical & fitness has become very important. During training, players need test every part of their body to the extreme limit ...

As someone who's undergone the same ACL surgery as Andrea, my biggest fear is re-rupture of it so I hope she's just twinged something or it would be better if it was the meniscus damaged, not the grafted ACL.

Andrea knows how to make life miserable for her fans…

But in all seriousness, this damned, cursed year 2012 has such an iron grip on her career that it seems almost impossible in the world of tennis not to be touched by the fate of this brave young woman, who's an exceptional human-being in today's professional sports. Not to be touched by the prospect of losing someone, who's a wellspring of life in an increasing profit-driven sport. In the very early stages of this season, this is another blow to much-hyped German tennis in Germany. Whether Kerber is no. 4, 5 or 6 is pretty much irrelevant in terms of popularity, but the loss of a charismatic, eloquent figure like Petkovic, who is still the best-known German player, would be a huge setback. I want to believe she has been heartened by Tommy, who is one of the greatest characters of men's tennis, and who has gone through this again and again. But make no mistake, every further serious injury pushes Andrea's indomitable will to fight more and more on the brink of death.

The fact that Petko was able to walk off the court was a positive sign.

Maybe while in Australia she should have one of the AFL club medicos look at it for they have plenty of experience of helping players recover from serious knee injuries.

My friend has a torn ACL and is waiting for scheduled surgery, meanwhile walking around (in pain of course) with no crutches.

Depends on the severity of the tear if you can walk or not (Andrea could walk immediately after her first ACL tear at the AO 2008, but then compare that with Mary Pierce's rupture where she had to be stretchered off). The fact is even if she's just partially ruptured it she'll need surgery, a professional tennis player needs a full ACL due to the twisting nature of the sport. Only an MRI will show what's happened, fingers crossed for Andrea!
