Daria had King's second serve neutralized until the third set.

Vania! :D glad she fought it through. She had some real trouble against opponents she should beat so far. Daria is not bad at all tho and she seems to have improved looking at her last 2 matches.

Vania served for the match at 6-5 in the 2nd set and at 5-1 in the 3rd before being broken both times. Glad she was able to rebound

Second year in a row that she's in Q3. Now just to win and... win again. And that's just to defend points.

Great fight V.K! It was so hot out there today and Daria was playing really well at times - although the amount of coaching she received was disgusting :tape:. Consistency got it done in the end though!

A great performance by Daria. She served for the 1st set, and got upset when she lost it and sturggled in tiebreak. She composed herself in the 2nd set. But cramp got her. And the extreme heat & humidity was taking its toll. She could hardly run at the end of the 3rd. :(

although the amount of coaching she received was disgusting :tape:.

Vania's entourage kept complaining that amongst themselves the entire match. Wasn't that bad. He was encouraging her, the same as they were to Vania. Only in Russian, not English.

Daria did have frequent contact with her coach throughout the match, but from what I saw, it was more in a supportive, rather than coaching capacity. She did have the right tactics going into the match against King, playing a smart match using a lot of topspin and high balls to push Vania back.

Unfortunately, the heat did get to her in the end and her attitude was less than ideal. She had a number of tantrums, but she has a bright future if she can rein those things in. Vania was her regular consistent self, although she fell away in the tie break, it was enough.

I saw the same. Encouragement, supportive comments. Not coaching.

But yeah the heat killed her by early in the 2nd getting water & towel after every point. And obviously distressed.

They were speaking sentences in russian at several stages of the match  I did hear 'DAVAI' several times, but more was being said than that :rolls:

But there were a lot more words than C'mon from Vania's entourage as well. They were speaking sentences of encouragement to her in English. There was a linesperson about 2m from Dasha when she was wiping herself down and her coach was encouraging her, so if she was being coached, why didn't the lines judge report it? Dasha was angry at herself at times when losing a point, and making that clear to her coach, but that isn't against the rules - and isn't coaching. She expresses her frustration to him, and he encourages her.
