Cakewalk draw for Masha to at least the SF/F but you can't take draws so flippantly at the start of a new season :oh:
but hopefully we'll see Vika vs Caro, Pasek :tape:

Maria and Serena definitely have good draws. They SHOULD get to the semis without any real trouble. Then again, idk how they'll fair after their recent injuries. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I'm gonna go with Vika on this one. Her draw is kinda tough but I feel safer picking her lol

YES, we may FINALLY get to see Azarenka-Wozniacki :hysteric:

Although there's a slight chance of Safarova upsetting a rusty Vika before that, I guess.

Even though I'm Team KvittyGOAT and everything, I actually kinda hope we get a Sharapova-Kerber SF. Despite their Beijing match, I think it actually has potential to be an interesting match-up.

Vika had to retire three games into the match against Caro in their last match (IW 2011).

I think she really wants to prove herself against Wozniacki.

What a star studded field!

Serena/Sam could be the match of the tournament. That and the final.

I'm sure all or two of the top three could pull out citing nagging injuries, the stakes are higher in Melbourne ...wait for viral infections, neck & toe injury excuses :p

Maria is playing for the 1st time, Serena has 2nd round pts to defend, well Vika needs to win (too many pts to defend during the AO swing) ...so don't get surprised if/when Serena or Maria pull out!

I hope Daniela will win it this time :)

Draw observations:

Q1
We might finally get to see Vikfoo vs. Wozzilroy, although it´s not a given. Tough section.
Q2
Serena starts against a leftie. If she is not interested. :tape::tape:
Stosur will probably lose to Arvidsson or the Stephens/Pome winner.
Q3
Looks like a comfortable first two rounds for Kerber.
More if Kvitova screws up early and the draw seems well enough for her to do that.
Q4
Here you find cakewalk, a special line of the Sugarpovas with a distinct Italian flavour.

Brisbane's always difficult to predict - there's been some unexpected winners in the past (the last four winners - Kanepi, Kvitova, Clisters, Azarenka - none of those were really expected at the time).

IMHO, Serena will lose or withdraw early on citing the need to rest her toes after surgery ( having fulfilled her commitment ), Sammie :hearts: never plays well at home and has ankle issues, Masha has collarbone issues, the humidity is tough for Petra with her asthma (and it's really hot and humid this year), Lisicki barely shuffled her feet in practice yesterday. Dunno about Azza, Woz is sliding ever faster. I pick Angie Kerber or Sara Errani, or in keeping with the unexpected winners theme over the past few years, I'll go with Lepchenko. Serena never moves well at the best of times. With sore toes she'll probably grow roots.

We know she is not to play Williams first round. No need to be so literal. Azerenka has Lisicki-Safarova and Wozniacki in her draw, Williams has Stosur, and Maria has.. well, she has Errani. That´s what we mean, and I think is pretty obvious with just one look at the draw.

Caro hasn't been a threat to the top in over a year. Sabine has played one good match in the past year. Neither are difficult; if Azarenka doesn't roll over them, it should be worrying. Serena usually gives a half-assed effort in these events anyway. Furthermore, it's just Brisbane so why are people complaining.

Once again it's about the dishonesty of the Sharapova fan base. If they would acknowledge that this is a lucky draw and be happy about it then there would be no need to discuss anything. Yeah, and Kvitova was actually the US Open Series champion that year. And the seeds she could've drawn there at the USO are virtually the same she could've drawn here (Stosur, Wozniacki, Kerber and Kvitova at the US Open versus Stosur, Wozniacki, Errani and Kvitova)

Stosur: she OWNS her and Sam is playing on homesoil where she inevitably flops every year

I seriously doubt Wozniacki will ever beat Sharapova again. Those back-to-back losses at the USO and IW were two of the biggest demons she conquered in her career after turning it around in Rome. Even after brainfarting for a set and a half, she still beat her comfortably in Miami and it never really looked like Maria would lose that match, even when down a set

I predict Caro will start dominating masha. Caro's lightning speed and fearsome moonballs will be too much for pova to deal with.

I'll give Azarenka and Sharapova the respect they deserved as they had an excellent 2012, but Kvitova is very capable of beating both. People (mostly Sharapova fans) are acting like Kvitova is Sharapova's bitch just because she lost 3 matches to her last year (with only one match being convincingly). Kvitova had a rough 2012, but it's not safe to assume the h2hs are going to be pre-determined by 2012 results.

i genuinely think petra can compete like its 2011
seriously, everytime she plays masha or draws her a lot of SS fans take note that petra is a great player - i never take for granted that she can easily beat her - i mean their AO SF was sensational, nail biting and tight = not a beatdown

their stuttgart match where masha saved countless of bps all throughout the second set = not a beatdown
and their FO match masha fucked up a small lead even if she did win 63 63

well IMO at least, petra is a great player and when she's on she can play anyone tough :)

THIS. It is so privileged to think that Sharapova has a automatic walkover with Kvitova just because she got her last year. And I'm not saying it's vice-versa either. I'm just saying it has the possibility to be a tight match. :D

I like the draw. We have some interesting match-ups: Caro-Tamira, Lucie-Vika, Vika-Caro, Serena-Sam, Petra-Angie, Petra-Maria.. Can't wait! :cheer:

Anyway, if the top 3 cares enough, Serena, Vika or Maria will win and Serena's obviously the favorite. If not, I can totally see a Kerber-Wozniacki final, with Kerber taking the title.

missvarsha

Probably Ludmilla, since winning Brisbane this year has no danger of actually making her re-relevant, or granting her the #1 ranking.
Sereta will probably tank to some random Asian babe if she remembers, if she forgets she will win the tournament w/o dropping a set.
