:oh:

By "best" I essentially mean most consistently sharp and dominating, as in players who were in the zone for almost the entire match.

Serena. Just Serena.

Serena def. Stosur, Charleston SF. The best performance by a woman EVER as far as I'm concerned.

I just wanna mention Sharapova's annihilation of Kerber at Beijing because those were probably the best 9 consecutive games she's ever played.

BEFORE I AM BITCHED OUT TO HIGH HEAVENS: I meant to put SHARAPOVA DEF. AZARENKA STUTTGART FINAL, NOT SHARAPOVA DEF. WOZNIACKI.

Oh yeah, sorry Serena but this is objectively the most dominant performance in 2012.

:oh:

Seriously though, fantastic stuff from Shvedova. The peakiest of all peaks. Your fave could never.

No Golden set in the poll? You can't get more dominant in a set of tennis.

As far as overall match though, Serena vs Stosur.

Sharapova d. Wozniacki 6-1 6-4 at Stuttgart? WOZNIACKI? :spit:

Anyways Serena d. Stosur in Charleston or Maria d. Kerber in Beijing.

Serena vs Stosur was an epic massacre, still dont know how she got those 2 games. That was close to peak Pierce level :oh:

As for one set, Shvedova golden set OBVIOUSLY. It will be a very, very long time until someone (or her :oh: ) does it again.

Nobody should be picking Olympic final. It was a windy day and we all know how Maria plays in the wind . Serena was steadier but it was nothing more than a good day from her, coupled by a terrible day for Maria.

Charleston was Stosur's best surface and she was made to look like a junior .

Serena SF in Charleston, this is my FAVORITE match of the year.
That's when her dominant performance started. I still keep watching that match to remind myself how awesome it was. When I watched it live on tv, my jaw dropped to the floor after first few points and basically stayed there until the end. LOL Olympics final is a close second as I actually attended this match and boy it was so much better than actually seeing it on tv later. Serena was on a different level.

LOL the Olympics final wasn't really anything special. Serena was way better in her dismantling of Stosur in Charleston.

The IW semi in which Azarenka destroys probably the best defender on Tour in 2012 with ease also deserves way more votes than it has now, that would have been a double bagel if not for the brainfart.

Serena's clinic at the London Olympics ...complete & utter destruction #BloodyHell :worship:

Lost only 17 games in six matches, destroying former #2 and 3 former #1s & current #1 ...pundits billed it the best performance ever in Olympics tennis history.

...and to lose only 1 game in the finals? whoaa :wavey:

I voted Serena at the Olympics. The Charleston match was definitely a close 2nd, but I chose the Olympics because Serena came into the tournament and from day 1 she was strictly on business. If she had played Maria or Azarenka in the final I doubt the scoreline would have been much different.

The match against Stosur was phenomenal from Serena. She played really well and she wanted to get back at Sam for that USO final (clearly)

Just because Kerber really tried her best and almost all games were competitive, but still was beaten heavily and forced to throw in the towel

I never thought of that name, but that is a good one. WTA could actually be that given the letters, and it basicallly has been that the last 15 years despite the fine depth around them.

These ( Williams Tennis Assocication) were used often when the Venus And Serena burst on the scene, making the finals of all 4 GS

There should be 2 categories, best Serena performance, and best non Serena performance so those other great players have a chance to have some of their own fine performances recognized, which is impossible made to go up against Serena`s best.

Not really, Shvedova's golden set tops any set Serena's played this year for sure.

Errani only hit 1 unforced error.

The amazing thing is they were so good and so young at the time people thought it could be that way for a whole decade to come which it probably could have without all the family, injury, and illess problems. Henin on clay would obviously have cut in for awhile, and maybe a couple others on clay, but that is it.

With all due respect to Shvedova's, I don't think her peformance can compare to Serena's demolition of Stosur
The proof is in the putting; despite Serena having 2 entries, she leads all others in both of her entries... and not even close.
And Serena Olympics final was left out

At least for one set  I didn't entirely like Sam's attitude in the demolition job Serena gave her, she was like "Oh Serena is in God mode, hehe now I have an excuse for losing", at least when Sam was in God mode against Zvonareva Bepa got angry and more or less got a little bit of her dignity back.

I'm the only one who voted for Azarenka/Ivanovic lol. I voted for that match because I feel like Vika was playing out of her mind that day. Ana didn't even play completely terrible. The reason I didn't vote for Serena/Sharapova is because although Serena was playing fantastic tennis, Maria was playing awful.

Not so sure if that Serena def Stosur @ Charleston was more Serena as it was Stosur coming up with less than an A game that day.

Sam just didn't believe she could beat Serena (at the end you could see it) and that watered down the match IMO.

I actually don't think so. Sam fought hard in the first few games even when Serena was playing great tennis. Plus, why would Sam believe that she couldn't beat Serena? She's done it two times already in important matches.
