Why is the 1999 USO semi vetween Venus and Hingis so overrented, while the 2000 USO semi is underrated?

The 2000 USO had three sets as high quality as the last set of the 99 semi. Why is the 99 semi considered a classic, while the 2000 is not?

I don't feel like that's the case at all.

They should really bring up the rental price if it's so overrented.

I think they were both great matches with players that had contrasting styles, personalities and neither of them wanted to lose to that person on the other side of the net.

I actually hear people talk about the 2000 semi more than the 99 one  Maybe it's the people you're around(Hingis fans hold the 99 semi in higher esteem, while the opposite is true for Venus fans :oh:)

It's never at the Red Box when I look for it. I wish it would be less rented.

1999 had great rallies throughout all 3 sets played, whereas 2000 picked up in the 2nd when Venus stopped hitting so many errors

1999 was of better quality imo. Hingis played a brilliant first set :worship: and took advantage of Venus' injury in the end including that amazing point in the last game. You could see there was a lot of humidity aswell. Both players were exhausted after the match.

2000 was tighter but I recall there were many errors from both sides: Hingis played more conservative than the previous year and that's what cost her the match. Wimbledon 00 was better, actually.

I've said this before, but that first set ranks as one of the finest sets of tennis anyone has played. Look at her amazingly precise footwork, the insane racquet-work to take each ball frighteningly early and playing all-court, aggressive tennis.

It startled Venus into raising her game, and the last two sets were amazing tennis theatre, coupled with some jaw-dropping rallies and shot-making.

I guess you haven't been on MTF?
I think the OP is referring to a MTF thread - about Davydenko being underrented from memory.

The 2000 match may have been more dramatic (maybe), but the quality of play was much lower.

Please, I just saw someone state in a topic that they didn't know what the word "fervent" meant ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it's a lost cause on this entire message board. It'd be a shame if this board actually obtained any significance in the actual tennis world. It would be an embarrassment. This board is the Fantasia Burrino of tennis. :o

if anything the Venus Vs Hingis match at Wimbledon QF in 2000 is underrated. One of my fav matches but everyone seems to think the US Open was better altho even though the wimbledon match was a lot cleaner.
