Lack of Radwanska was the reason why sponsors disappeared...

Luckily lack of tournament didn't touched Queen Aggie as she launches soon her new website http://www.agaradwanska.com/

To Jimmie48's Question: Looks like it will be an empty slot, only Barcelona Open will be that week :(

UPDATE: ONE SITE WROTE THAT ORGANISERS OF THE TOURNAMENT TOLD THAT ALL IS A GOOD WAY TO ORGANISE A PERFECT TOURNAMENT AND THEY DON'T KNOW ABOUT PAP (POLISH PRESS AGENCY) REVELATIONS... MEANWHILE, NEXT SITE "ONET.PL" WROTE THAT "IT HAD TO BE A WTA'S MIRACLE TOURNAMENT, BUT IT IS CANCELLED" O.O

TBH Katowice never was in calendar.

It was in the latest update (Dec 23rd) so if this is true, it is indeed a bombshell.

All sponsors disappeared after it was sure that Aggie won't participate, also TVP (Telewizja Polska-Polish TV) didn't wanted to make coverage from tournament without Radwanska as she is one of the hottest chicks now on the tour...

Dying at the title of this thread.. :hysteric:

What a mess. If the only reason they were holding this event in Katowice was on the basis that Radwanska would play, shouldn't they have consulted her and made sure she was going to play before choosing to move the tournament in Copenhagen to Katowice in the first place? Shame though, that stadium looked great.

And I don't get how this is Serena, Schiavone or anyone else's fault. It's Aga's fault she signed up to play Auckland. It was obvious she wasn't going to turn away that *allegedly* huge appearance fee she was going to get for playing Auckland. The rules are rules

:weirdo: really?! after all the fuss about this tournament?
I guess building up a tournament around one player only was never a good idea

Good riddance. Building up a tournament for one player is not a sound business decision.

Especially if the tournament is replacing a tournament that collapsed because it was built on one single player... they don't learn.

tradition and interest for the sport make great tournaments even without local heros, wherelse you get big stadiums with no crowds or no tournaments because of lack of local idols

bwahahahahahabwahah as though the idea of holding Katowice Sram hadn't been locked to fail the very first day that proposal was announced.

My country just like WTA, seems to surprise people and meet its new lows, even if we think it can't sink any lower:tape:

ps At least the likes of Woz or Errani won't be given a chance to vulture yet another MM, that's the only good thing coming out of it for me I guess:clap2:

As a Top 10 player playing Acapulco already, Errani can't play here. And even if she wasn't she'd play Barcelona instead of this mess...

@ all the drama before, Aga had chances to appear as double with Ula or Caro or withdraw from Auckland to play there

Jorn
Dec 26th, 2012, 07:26 PM
Caro wil ask Rory if she can loan the 235K for the Prize money, so who need sponsors? ;)

But serious,. they don't go play on clay as it VERY expensive... :help:

You know how this shit is called ? Flying Disc. Im for real here....Before this year it was officially called "Katowice city sport hall" or sth like that. You know what I mean, some random lame name. BUT everyone, even in media, was reffering to it as simply flying disc, so they decided to make it official.

If it's true, this only proves how pathetic the Polish media is and it portrays the whole country the same way. They always ONLY support their own no matter who it is and what sport it is as long as it's a Polish person. If it's not Polish, they don't give shit about it/them. Just imagine if every country was like this, we would have no people attending tournaments or we would have no tournaments at all. Thanks God the whole world is not like that!

If it's not happening, I am glad for the sake of other players that were to play there.

We've got a snooker tournament held in the past couple of years and snooker is one sport where the Polish players are way behind the 8ball  So, there is one exception :cheer:

Well, if I'd be so sensitive as some people are, I'd report this post as polonophobic.

The Katowice Open was in the 2013 WTA Calendar as of December 15: http://www.wtatennis.com/SEWTATour-Archive/Archive/AboutTheTour/TourCalendar_1215_2013.pdf (does anybody have a link to a newer version?). I'm quite sure the tournament will be held at least next year, and probably the years after if Aga decides to compete.

Nah, its not that hard. Majority of polonophobic people I've met are polish themself.

If you are polish do you realize that:

- polish people been stuck in commie shit for nearly 50 years. The result is- majority of them are too poor to play tennis themself.
- there's no open TV channel in Poland wich airs WTA. Therefore, polish people are separated from WTA World
- Poland is a country with no tennis tradition whatsoever...
- Agnieszka Radwanska is ONLY recognisable WTA player in Poland. So shes not playing=ppl see no reason to pay they heavy earned money to watch tennis.

This is comming from polish tennis fan, who isn't "poles only" fan. Fellow Ula fans will confirm it :lol::lol:

Sorry for eventual typos- Im drunk right now...

Radwanska always seems to be involved in some drama, but it always seems so dull that I can never be bothered to actually look into it properly and find out what exactly's going on.

- Yes, I do realize that, but it does not justify much because it's not only about tennis, it's the same about other sports.
- Almost EVERY family in Poland has a cable/digital pay tv where Eurosport is standard so it's not like they are separated from WTA or have no access to it. The problem is, they are not interested in watching anything until they hear there is someone Polish in it.

I don't think Radwanska will ever bother to compete here unless there's a special sponsor paying her appearance fee. Robert will press hard on that one and there's no 'national pride' short cut to avoid that IMO.
