Caroline Wozniacki

For a good portion of 2012, Caroline Wozniacki's game appeared to be heading in a definite downward trend, especially as the former world No. 1 went the majority of the season without winning a title. That stat only enhanced the negative perception around her time spent at the top. Post-U.S. Open, though, Wozniacki turned it on by making the finals of three of her last five tournaments. Such a strong run at the end should propel her back toward the Top Five in 2013.

Maria Kirlenko

Tour veteran Maria Kirilenko could be considered among the best active players to have never reached the Top 10 in singles. In 2012, though, she did reach a career-high ranking of 12 before finishing the season at 14. While she hasn't won a singles title since 2008, Kirilenko has gone on to post the best Grand Slam results of her career since 2010, having made her first two major quarterfinals, including one last year at Wimbledon. That success, plus her stellar doubles results, could help boost her achievements on the singles court.

Venus Williams

While the Luxembourg tournament might not be the biggest on the WTA Tour, Venus Williams' win there in 2012 proved to the former world No. 1 that she's capable of still winning events and showing dominant form. Williams finished the year at No. 24 in the rankings, one of the most impressive accomplishments of her career, considering the health issues she's had to deal with. Provided she holds up physically, the seven-time major winner could be vying for a top-eight spot in the standings in '13.

Sabine Lisicki
http://cdn.bleacherreport.net/images_root/slides/photos/002/847/983/hi-res-153184221_display_image.jpg?1356235674
Sabine Lisicki saw her recent rankings rise go in reverse by the end of 2012. Despite reaching a career-high singles ranking at one point over the season, the big-hitting German finished the year outside the Top 35. That marks a stunning turn for the 2011 Wimbledon semifinalist and '12 quarterfinalist. Lisicki is one of the most powerful players on the WTA Tour, and provided she avoids the rash of injuries she suffered last year, she could find herself bashing her way to a new career benchmark.

Andrea Petkovic
http://cdn.bleacherreport.net/images_root/slides/photos/002/847/984/hi-res-153108269_display_image.jpg?1356236345
Injuries essentially decimated Andrea Petkovic's 2012 campaign, as she was forced off the court twice for significant amounts of time on separate occasions. And that was coming off a year in which she cracked the Top 10 for the first time and made three Grand Slam quarterfinals. But there are signs that Petkovic could make a big rankings jump in 2013. Currently outside the Top 100, she will have few points to defend over the course of the season. She also ended the year on somewhat of a high note by reaching the semifinals at a small event. That tournament run should've been able to give her momentum over the offseason, which could carry into the months ahead.

Which player has the best chance to Break into the Top 5 by the end of 2013??

Kirilenko was number 12? Oh God how, she's way worse than Peer, it would be a disgrace if she ever made it to the Top 10

From these five maybe only Wozniacki has a chance for top 5. I would like it to be Venus and Petko but hardly.

In the first half of the season, Wozniacki tends to perform how she did in the 2nd half of the previous season. Therefore barring unforeseen injury I expect her to move up 2-3 ranking places, ahead of the likes of Errani, Stosur and possibly Li (and Radwanska after her impending plummit), but top 5 is out of reach. She'll probably earn occasional victories against players ranked #5-#10 but anyone ranked higher will be a a step too far at this stage ('cept maybe Serena :oh: ).

I don't think any of those 5 have a chance to get to the top 5 except possibly Wozniacki. We've seen Petkovic's peak, I expect her to stay in the top 20-40 range for the rest of her career. Lisicki is way too inconsistent to reach top 10 let alone top 5. Venus likely wont play enough tournaments to get there but she can possibly get back to the top 10. Kirilenko's game is too lightweight, she does well with what she has but does not have the game to challenge the elite.

Oh please, nobody of the current Top 20 is worse than Peer.

Wozniacki has an outside chance. If all goes well I hope she will end up somewhere between five and eight, so number five is a best case scenario (I'm very willing to let her surprise me though). I don't think any of the others will make the top five because it's too crowded up there. Venus may still be the best 'peak performer' of any of them, but her age and especially her illness are likely to make it impossible for her to keep playing at a high enough level for ten months to enable her to get back into the top five.

Wozniacki and Ivanovic are possible top 5 players by the end of 2013 in my opinion. They could replace Radwanska and Kerber. Venus could be even top 3, but she will not play enough to do that, so top 15 is most likely for her. :)

none, top4 will remain the same and there is no chance they can past either Kerber, Li Na or my gurl Petra

Wozniacki could probably get to #5 before the end of the year, but barring injury, I think the top 4 are fairly set in some order for the foreseeable future, barring a Kvitova revival.

Karo "Kaman" Wozniacki but not untill the summer begins

Wozniacki isn't getting to the top 5 guys, it's over for her. She'll never crack the top 5 again.

Caro and Venus are the only ones with a realistic chance and even for them it's slim. Kirilenko is simply not talented enough, Lisicki is too emotional and Petkovic has a long road back ahead of her and I don't think one year is enough time for her to get into the top 5.

I'm literally praying for this.

I think its a bit unfair to assume petko might not reach no. 10 again, but she's not reaching any higher than that. I hope bine makes the top 10, but these players will probably never reach the top 5; first time or again. I think a better analysus would be to look at people like li, sammy, marion and sara, cause they conceivably could reach the top 5.

Wozniacki the only one with a realistic chance.

Caroline is the only realistic return, but even then it won't be easy. I don't see a major collapse from Vika, Maria, or Serena next year. And Aga has proven that she can do away with the lesser players on the tour quite easily, and with her ranking and seeding, will be able to go deep until she meets a top 10 player in better form.

Don't see any of the top 4 falling out of the top 5/6 next year, so it'll be a battle between Kerber, Sam, Li, Petra, and Caroline for the top 5 spot. Everyone in the top 10 except Kerber has proven that they have staying power, and can maintain their top-10 level for multiple seasons. No one's going to collapse out of the top, so Caroline is going to have to fight to break through.

Caro has a decent chance of getting back into the top 5 if she can keep up a bit of the aggression she's shown at times lately.

The others.... not so much

I think none of them will. You won't enter the top 5 with some good results here and there, but you have to be consistent over a long time span. Add to that the very consistent current top 5 players and it seems nearly impossible for any of the mentioned players to make it into the top 5 next year. From the players on the list Caro has the best chances imo but I think she'll stay somewhere between 6 and 10 in 2013. That said, I'd only give Caro promising chances to (re-)enter top 5 in the future. Maria might crack the top 10 for a short period next year or later in her career but I don't see her raising any further. Venus is too inconsistent these days and I don't think that will change. If Lisicki and Petkovic manage to get back to their very best they have chances to reach top 10 but I don't think either of them can go as far as top 5.

It's hard to see any of them in the top 5.
Kirilenko is not good enough. Lisicki is not nearly consistent enough. Andrea still has a long way to go. As much as I'd like to see Venus there, I think it's unlikely to ever see her ranked that high again. Like others have said, Caro is the one with the best chance.

Hope Petko but probably none of them. Top 5 will be current top 3 with 2 out of Radwanska,Kerber,Kvitova added.

Dec 25th, 2012, 12:37 PM
none of them will enter top5

Lisicki? she may will drop out of top50 over the season and then we will see how she can regroup
Petko? she will need a lot of good draws to reenter top50 fast, top5 is not possible at all
Woz - she might be the only one with a real chance, but i can´t see her reaching top5 again
Kirilenko - she just reached #12 because the other girls are more worse then her

i think Caro will move up but Top 5 is a bit much in my opinion so i don't think any of those will go in the top 5.

For me, none of the players mentioned...but if Goerges can stay fit, injury free and put her trainers on the correct feet, she must have a massive chance

I don't believe this. I think she's just one of those late bloomer and just hasn't found her groove yet....Many thought the same about Azarenka

Anyway, we can wait and see who will be right :)
