Peer refuses to shake teen's hand after match

Former Top 20 player Shahar Peer refuses to shake the hand of her opponent, 18-year-old Deniz Khazaniuk, after beating her 6-0, 6-1 in the semifinals of the Israel Open.

“You’re an embarrassment to the State of Israel,” Peer was reported to have said by the Israeli media.

Earlier this year, in an interview with the Maariv newspaper, Khazaniuk criticized Peer and the rest of Israeli Fed Cup team.

“She’s one big fake,” said Khazaniuk, who also said that during Fed Cup, Peer and Israeli player Julia Glushko “only belittled me and criticized me all the time. They humiliated me. That is not the way a national team should be handled. It’s the way you do things in the neighborhood.”

Peer should have acted as the elder state-woman of Israeli tennis and shake the youngster hand.
Especially after she soundly beat her.

She claimed Khazaniuk is an embarrassment to Israel, but her own actions are doing just that.

Peer perspective is way off.

She forgot the assassins who were dressed as tennis players and carried out killings for the state of Israel on foreign soil.
As a tennis player, I would have thought this will cause her more concerns and embarrassment for Israel tennis image.

Peer is a bitch, she should simply shut up. I use to sympathize about her having trouble entering events in middle east but now she just appear to be a selfish bitch and she probably tried to enter those events on purpose just to make a fuss. Clearly you don't humiliate a young player like that in the first place and if that said player call you on your shit, man up and apologize. She has no reason to be bullied and not say anything after that. Peer is always in trouble like that. Saw this happened in Fed Cup against Russia and I think a issue with Peer also happened in their fed cup tie with Canada a few years ago where she appeared like a classless bitch....

Biased against Israel.

How the heck did this get to this forum? I was hoping this would stay a national controvosey... Peer suffers enough hatred already so this doesn't benefit with her.
Well Shahar was obviously pretty mad at her but the classy act would be shaking hands with Khazaniuk after simply thrashing her. I'm sure Shahar regrets it on the inside but just can't apoligize for such a bold act...

I think you are too naive.
Israel may be small in the area it covers, but is by no way too small in terms of news it makes every day around the world.

I know you did not like what another poster mentioned, but whenever Bibi decides to build new setllements in Palestinian territories or a palestinian house is buldozed, or bomb goes off in Tel-Avis or Jerusalem, it is reported by a CNN correspondent or/and can be read on a CNN scroller.

I realized Peer rant is not at the same level, but don't think that anything that happen in Israel will not go out of the country.

One more thing, do not paint Peer as a martyr. Because she is not.
As the #1 Isareli player, her comments were uncalled for and did not set a good example.

If people would read the facts, they would understand why Shahar was upset. It was much more than critic, it was naughty attack on Shahar and all the fed cup team (with intimate details about their privacy life on and off the court during the competition) including the Captain and the Israeli Tennis federation and she threat that she will might present other country. It was huge mistake by her and all the officials and players denied all the allegations but the image of Shahar was hurting badly in Israel when she was at very low point of her career. I'm pretty sure that any other player who would be in Shahar's place, would not shake hands with someone who trashed her like this in publicity.

But haters gonna hate, facts are really not important for haters....

Oh, so Shahar was upset. One minute of silence for having her feelings hurt :sobbing: That girl is a bitter disgusting b*tch acting like that. What if there was some truth on what Kazhaniuk said about the team and Peer & co. where mad because it went public? I mean, she said she would sue Khazaniuk and the newspaper. Why she didn't do it? The truth is I can see Peer & co. bullying the 17 year old after what she did crying out loud that "she is a disgrace to Israel" and refusing to shake hands which is something truly disgusting. I mean, when even non other that Israelian IOC member has accused Peer of "unsporting conduct" in the past you just know what kind of person Peer is. Who does she think she is that dog face to call someone "disgrace to the State of Israel"??? Especially to a 17 year old with no media experience who was probably pushed to make these kind of controversial statements by a savvy journalist and he was happy enough to make headlines and get a juicy scandal.

You see this whole thing as this poor little player who got 'attacked' by Peer but she said some very nasty things about the whole Israeli Fed Cup team and the coach like itzhak said. she was very rude.

Again, what if that was true? Khazaniuk might have been rude (as a 17 yo). The rest of the team were just plain b*tches.

Plus one can see in that article the difference between the junior player

“I understand that she’s angry. I saw it coming and I’m not upset. She told me in the end that I’m a disgrace for the country, I didn’t reply and it probably stemmed from anger, I’m not judging her”

and the 25 year old full of anger:

"I’m talking on the court, I did what I had to, and she can enjoy whatever she wanted to achieve for herself”. Yeah, biatch, we know you are a better tennis player than her, no need to humilliate her once again...

No wonder why Peer is one of the most hated players by both players and fans

Ten years from now Peer goes on a job interview, the interviewer will have googled this, and will be thinking, 'vindictive, vengeful, cruel'. He won;t wonder if she's mellowed out. Cruel doesn't age out.

In other words, every the kid said was true, her only sin was how she said it.

Ten years from now, Khazaniuk goes on a job interview, the interviewer will have googled this, and will be thinking, 'immature, let's see if she's grown up'.

Ten years from now Peer goes on a job interview, the interviewer will have googled this, and will be thinking, 'vindictive, vengeful, cruel'. He won;t wonder if she's mellowed out. Cruel doesn't age out.

Perfect summation.

Peer is someone I used to have a lot of time for, but she just seems like a really nasty and classless person. What a disgusting thing to do after the match. Bitch.

They have different standards in Israel apparently. The public is on Peer's side, from what I've read.

It’s the way you do things in the neighborhood.”I'm with Shahar on this. This girl had no business shooting off her mouth like that and now she paid the price. I'm sure that Shahar really wanted to double bagel her.
