You can ask any questions about the rankings here and I'll do my best to answer them.
I hope everyone had a great off season and will continue to support FITD in 2013! :bounce:
How the Rankings work...
FITD uses a best of 18 tournament rule, made up of the 8 mandatories plus the highest scores in 10 other tournaments. If you do not play the mandatories then you will score 0 and this will be included in your best of 18.
The 19th tournament is used as the cut-off and you have to score better than this tournament in order to improve your rank.
The rankings are composed of the previous 52 weeks.
Tiebreakers...
If one or more player has the same number of total points then rank order is determined as follows:
Most number of Mandatory points
Most number of YEC points
Most number of Premier 5 points
Most number of Premier points
Most number of International pointsIf one or players are still tied then equal ranks are given.

Hi, I changed my nick from FanSince2004 to Leon Daniel, I'll be happy if you change it for the first ranking list in 2013. Thanks. :)

Yep, it's all changed :)
First post will be this weekend.
Because you were defending a runner's up spot in Hobart :p
:bounce: Thanks, after I wrote the comment I thought about it and thought maybe last year I did better in Hobart than Sydney but I didn't remember coming second.

Hi Kate,
Why Ranking pts distribution for all GS events in 2013 half from the previous year?
Grand Slams:
Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon, US Open
Well I've been wanting to tidy up the points for ages and the Grand Slam points had felt a bit inflated, effectively double the points of a Mandatory. Plus I wanted to group the regular Premier 5/Premier/International tournaments closer together and keep the Grand Slams/Mandatories/YEC slightly separate. So I picked a starting number, in this case 1000, and worked down from there :p

In that case, you should have amended grand slam pts earned on the ranking from last year to reflect this change or otherwise, what is the point of winning GS this year if we can not gain more pts?
example:
I have finished 3rd at last year AO, and therefore I have 1025 pts to defend, even I win this year title, I would still lose 25 pts :tape:
Thanks Kate

But why not keep it the way the WTA does it too?
And I agree with Buitenzorg. I did the same with the tipping rankings when we changed the points system.

also is harder to play a GS tournament and therefore it deserved to be awarded with 2000pts for the winner like in WTA ;)

Yeah that's a fair point, otherwise some will have 2000 pts and others only 1000 :p
I'll get it changed over. Watch this space :p

Ok :)
One more thing: why are the points for the TOC so high?

Jan 19th, 2013, 04:04 PM
I thought it was good having the TOC somewhere between a Mandatory and Premier 5 but do you think I've overvalued it?
It's actually been a problem since the WTA introduced it, grr to them!

I hope I'm not asking too much but do you have the points for the next 5 weeks that Meelis has to defend? (+ my points in those weeks)
Thanks :p

First of all, I am surprised my points didn't decrease much :oh:

I think Sofia is too high as well...
Maybe the Premier 5's should align a bit more with the Premier Mandatory points and have
Indian Wells/Miami = 750 points
Beijing/Madrid = 700 points
Doha/Roma/Montreal/Toronto/Cincinnati/Tokyo = 650 points
Sofia = 600 points
Indian Wells and Miami should have an edge over the other two Premier Mandatory cause there's more to predict.
After all Sofia is not that high quality caliber to be weighted above Premier 5s, but should be above Premiers.

Yeah I think that's probably good as after all the TOC is really just a glorified International :p
Points:
Week 8: Meelis - 50, you - 70
Week 9: Meelis - 320, you - 130
Week 10: Meelis - 30, you - 40
Week 11: Meelis - 55, you - 90
Week 12: Meelis - 70, you 750

I like the sound of that a lot, especially in regards to Indian Wells and Miami!
I'm not sure what to do with the Olympics, whether to convert it into Premier 5 or Mandatory points.

Just to let everyone know, I'll be moving house over this weekend so the ranks for next week will be late. I'll get the internet set up asap so hopefully there won't be too long to wait!
Also, if you notice more points are coming off then you'd expect it's because I'm in the middle of converting them into the 2013 points. They should work themselves out once I've finished.
I've so far converted all Grand Slams, Mandatories, Premier 5s and Premiers/Internationals up to the Birmingham/Bad Gastein week. It should've been done during the off season, I know :p

Im the only one ranked in the top 50 with less than 20 tournaments played. :)
Yeah most of Meelis' points are from after Roland Garros/Wimbledon so unless someone has a big push at Rome, Madrid, RG and Wimby he got a lock on #1 for now :p
