I understand that Singles brings in more money and it is more difficult to win, but does it really deserve 10 times the prize money???

Depends on if you want the top players to compete in doubles or not. But if you wonder why once upon a time they did and now they don't, there's at least part of your answer.

How can you actually say that Azarenka deserves 10 Times the money of Kuznetsova or Zvonareva when her effort wasn't that much more admirable

I Love how ya'll bitch about this yet Ester Veegar GOAT of all GOATS plays in a wheel chair which is hard as fuck, and hasn't lost a match in years, and gets paid LESS THAN WHAT FIRST ROUND LOSERS GET PAID.

More inequality in tennis  The prize money for singles winners and RUs just goes up and up and everyone else seems to lose out.

In no world does Azarenka deserve 10x more than Kuznetsova/Zvonareva. She plays 1 extra match that is all. 1 more match is not worth 10x the money

exactly! The prize money is based on what brings the money to the tournament not the effort given by a player or else they'd pay each player for the number of points won lol. It's unfortunate for a double specialist but it's her choice to only play double. It's even more unfortunate for a wheelchair player since they can't really only play tennis to make a real living, less tournaments are offer to them as well as no money. Rarely are you going to a tournament simply to watch double players. If you'd ask anyone that doesn't follow tennis daily they couldn't really name the actual best double pair if any double specialist or great double player.

Yes but at a slam level surely the ITF has an obligation to more fairly distribute the prize money  Regardless of issues on the tours.

I mean from 4r-QF-SF-RU-F the prize money jumps astronomically.

Just because I am preaching for the Doubles Players doesn't mean I am not preaching for Esther :)

Australians don't give a fuck about doubles.

Just look at the Huber controversy. There was maybe 25 people in the stands.
Serena can fill up a 15K seats arena.

That's so not true. It's just that they don't care about Huber and Raymond. The Final and Semis were nearly sold out and we have had a strong Doubles history

Go see some highlights. The stadium wasn't even half full and the TV ratings must be low.

I personally don't think it is fair. I think doubles is a crucial element in professional tennis, although it isn't the most popular, it would be missed if it were to go away completely. I do think we can clearly see why many top players have stopped playing doubles. I would like to think that if the prize money was a bit higher you would see more top ranked players in the double's draw as well.

Venus and Serena could have a career extended beyond 2016 if they decided they wanted to play the doubles tour full time for instance.

That's because no one likes those players. I knew that Huber had a reputation before I even joined tennis forum
